Poor man's sports auto transmission.

Brake into a corner, OD off downshift, turn and accelerate out. Pull it down to 2 if you need even more power to preempt the exit.

Does the TC keep lockup on downshift?

On the Aisin 6AT I have to request lower gear (it unlocks TC and puts engine at idle), get on the gas to lock it up, then get on brakes.

I found the torque converter to be RPM specific with the 4AT, once you hit a certain level of RPM I don't remember hearing it flare. Even with brake torquing it on autox starts, it still does the motorboating for bit before I get lock up.

Shifting up from 2 in a stress setting is hard though. Hondas have the lock on D -> N iirc, but Toyota doesn't so if you aren't delicate about it you'll push into N.

In case anybody gets nervous about this: they likely never broke the speed limit.

If anything they were probably impeding the traffic trying to get around them.

So, when should we have the next Stock & Noob Meet? :troll:

I had a CX trim. Manual, no tach, no AC, no power steering, no ABS.
I remember trading a guy a subwoofer, for the gauge cluster out of an auto civic. So I had a tach with the drive mode indicators :QQ:

Those were the days. A purple civic, with a SRI, flooring from light to light barely hitting the speed limit.

Also learned to drive manual with no tach. Nothing like listening to the engine rpm and shifting gears. It was pretty sweet. Even after I got a tach I was pretty dead on what RPM the engine was singing.

Pretty amazing for 100k cad.

Any good lease deals right now for a small CUV like a Kona for 2 years? Family is looking and one Hyundai dealer is still playing markup games.

All I see is 1500 HP.

68style 09-27-2025 11:43 PM

Who cares tho man? You rip off a couple of 0-60's and then what?

You gonna do a 9 second 1/4 mile pull in Nanaimo? Get impounded?

It's a pointless car. Yah it's only 55k gbp for 1500hp but t would be totally fine with 400hp and costing 20k gbp.

It's not like it has the wow factor of a Ferrari or Lambo or Bugatti or something else that's also "pointless" for the money. In fact it looks like shit.

underscore 09-28-2025 11:38 AM

0-100 in 2.7s, so at most you can do a pull for maybe 3.5s before you're into impound territory. The rest of the time you're driving a hefty 5200lb car. To each their own but I prefer my cars to be more enjoyable for more of the time.

No one has a problem when companies like Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Hennessey fight for the title of the worlds fastest car. Right now Ford and Chevy are fighting for the fastest American car around the ring. But when ching chong makes a car that destroys everything for way less it's who cares.

This car does everything extremely well including being a daily. What else are you going to buy new for a 100k that's better.

trollface 09-28-2025 05:03 PM

What are you, all over 65?

Hell yeah give me that 0-60 in 2.5.

Badhobz 09-28-2025 07:03 PM

Slow cars are better…. The older I get the more fun it is to drive a slow car slow and clog up the road with your own ineptitude.

Maniacs !!!

??? Did I say anywhere that I care about any of those cars either? Or their petty battles for top speed at whatever? Just a bunch of manufacturers comparing dicks for special order cars nobody can buy. I guess the one good thing about the linglong is that it’s affordable, if you can call a 6 figure car affordable to anything resembling the masses.

What I can care about or respect is the craftsmanship of some of those upper echelon cars, of which the linglong will never have even 1/10th of the cachet. It’s just ugly plastic and metal attached to a giant battery pack and 3 motors. Even the Tesla looks classy next to it.

GS8 09-28-2025 09:14 PM

When I think of craftsmanship, I think Spyker :sweetjesus:

When i think of 'take me to the glory hole and use it like a whack a mole', I think TVR.

When I think about Ben Stein teaching me about igneous rock metamorphosis at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon, I think EVs.

I see commercial property insurance rates increasing due to even more high powered vehicles driving into storefronts in Richmond.

Is this spike in insurance rates unique to all of the Lower Mainland or just Richmond in general? Is there a report that's publicly available?

Dunno.

I witnessed a women rip her front bumper off, backing out of her parking spot at Dollarama on Kingsway yesterday. She had swung the front end around without realizing where the retaining wall was. She then continued to straighten out the car, then proceeded to back into the Dollarama building itself.

If it wasn't for the railing that protects the pedestrian walkway, she would have backed it through the glass wall where the cashiers are.

I used it as an example for my son to keep an eye on moving vehicles at all times. I think he took the lesson to heart, as I noticed he was scanning traffic a lot more as we crossed the street to dinner tonight.

At $66 per HP this a the best automotive deal in history. It's around the price of a base model vet and only 20K more than a Nissan Nismo Z. I would take this over both those cars. I also have a feeling a lot of hyper cars are lemons. You don't hear about it because 1. No one really drives them. 2. If they complain in public it will hurt the resale value. For most it's an investment.

For a lease term ownership, I can see the value in the Chinese cars. I went to a BYD dealership in HK and was pleasantly surprised that for 40K you get something that beats both a TM3 and VW Golf R in price, power and interior materials LOL. No hard plastic anywhere in sight.

AstulzerRZD 09-29-2025 11:29 AM

Thing is they lease way worse than VW EV in the EU. I expect that to be the case in North America as well.

It's really Africa/South America where they buy the car outright that this works.

The craftsmanship of the styling process, or the build quality? Because most of them are terribly designed and terribly built.

Manic! 09-29-2025 02:23 PM

Ferrari quality baby.

For any super lazy folks who want to wash their car less I used Gyeon Wetcoat for the first time to top my ceramic coated car and it's impressive stuff. I've tried a lot of different products over the years ranging from GTechniq C2V3 to Hypercoat to CarPro Reload to TEC852 Detailer spray to the super expensive Kamikaze Overcoat (over $100 for for 300ml!) and Wetcoat has the best self cleaning properties I've run into.

It's not as hydrophobic as Overcoat but better than everything else I've tried but the self cleaning is, so far, stellar. It's spray on, rinse off easy too. Not sure how durable it is - I hear 3 months is reasonable and up to 6 months is possible.
