Driving by the new Porsche dealership is sad. They have 3 white SUV's parked outside with a white 911 parked inside. Porsche lets you pick any colour but they chose white. But hey you can wrap it. resale spec sucks.

Imagine doing a PTS in this colour. Just to give a middle finger and to have a one of one colour.

I want one in Underberg Green, but the regular pallette oak green looks pretty good.

The saddest thing about Porsches is -- back in 2015, the Macan started at Cdn $55k, and the Cayman at $60k. As a pleb, those are still numbers my brain can process, and I can somehow still trick myself into thinking that it's a stretch goal I can reach if I really try.

Fast forward to today, and the 718 Boxster / Cayman started at $79.5k before it was discontinued. And Macan starts at $73.5k. And realistically, you can't even get a stripper car like that bcos the dealership just won't let you. So you'll pretty much end up with a $90k+ Boxster / Cayman, which turns into a $100k+ affair after tax. And for the Macan, you're almost hitting the $100k mark as well after tax.

Like... WTF... If I were still a kid fresh out of ugrad nowadays, I'd just give up on being a car enthusiast too... :(

bcrdukes 10-08-2025 02:55 PM

Also to note, the prices you mentioned are to start. There's no chance any dealer will let you buy a base model, stripper spec with no additional dealer mark up and they would force you to add all the options making it a $150K car, and you drive away crying wishing you never liked cars. :D

It's not just Porsche, but the M cars have made a similar upwards trajectory. The F80 started at 73k, mine came in at 90 before taxes. The F87 started at 63k iirc, and the M2C crept up to 68k, but there were almost no options for that car. I'd say the M2 is a pretty good equivalent to the Cayman, and the same M2 now in G87 guise is 86k to start. You are looking at 100k for a G87 out the door, the G80 M3 is well over 100k.

Badhobz 10-08-2025 03:17 PM

yeah but thats nothing.. stripper beetle is 220k out the door. like seriously, fuck those guys. how is it 100k better than the m3!?

bcrdukes 10-08-2025 03:20 PM

You forgot to mention the included service in the M3 for four years. :D

Badhobz 10-08-2025 03:20 PM

bascially at this point, if you dont buy a pig nose, you're a pig-nosed idiot.

Because according to the dealer as soon as you drive it off the lot it's worth 100k more.

bcrdukes 10-08-2025 03:23 PM

Porsche's stocks aren't doing so well, so they are going to have to pump out a bunch more GT3s to flood the market to make up for the numbers.

Not anymore for anything that's not a GT Porsche. Porsche has backtracked so much in the last few years that nothing they say holds much water.

"We will never put backseats in a GT3."
992.2 GT3 Touring has optional backseats, not that I'm complaining

"EV is the future"
New midsize SUV with gas engines coming since Macan isn't selling
Cayman and Boxster will come with new ICE engines
Granted, it was the corporate VAG that probably forced their hand, but still

In terms of the 911, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop with manuals. Right now only the T and GT3 comes in manual. I'm expecting the S to get a stick in 2 years.

not the base model's you aren't.. you'll lose money. 991's are under 100k already.

Only time you'll make money is if you buy a GT car.. but they want you to buy 2 macans. a cayenne and your unborn daughters virginity before they even consider you for such a privilege.

bcrdukes 10-08-2025 03:31 PM

Badhobz - you lied to me?

EvoFire 10-08-2025 03:33 PM

Waiting for Hobz to show us his 992.2 Turbo S

It was on one of the special GT models.

That’s why the Miata base at 36k and gr86 at 36k are the Best Buys. The gti, at least mine was an amazing buy at 500 a month with zero down. Now no longer. It’s friggin 750 a month with similar terms right now

Vancouver240sx 10-08-2025 09:54 PM

According to the bank of canada inflation calculator 60k in 2015 is 77,6k today. Its the same money. Just costs more to borrow it.

First, did you just insult the beautiful pig nose?

Second, I read that the T-hybrid BS in the new beetle is incompatible with manual transmission so unlikely the S model will get manuals again

Manic! 10-09-2025 02:59 AM

Ferrari going EV.

I don't think this is true. I think they still want numbers on things like the Macan. Having said that, I drove a base model 4banger Macan on Monday and while it was fine, I'd take the Audi and option it up for the same price. Unless you are a badge snob the Audi is probably 90% the same parts anyway.

And why would you spend $120 on the pig nose when you can get the same engine and no pig nose for sub $100 with the M2.
