Yup, Modding Seiko's are cheap fun. You don't wanna open up those Rolex. lol It atuacally feels great to change those dials, hands etc. I feel like I created a new watch. Here are some pictures of the last 4 addition. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7235/6...4c792c3a_b.jpg I have changed out the skinny stock hands with some nicer and more readable hands on the Samurai (Third watch from the left) Some more shots of the SKX009 on Wjean's Super Oyster bracelet I got today. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8023/7...20cfb21d_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7221/6...5f7f41eb_b.jpg |

the second hand on my seiko watch seems to be lagging/slow. anyone know if it could be the battery or it needs to be fixed? |
Speaking of big watches, I've got a Bell & Ross BR01-92... Which is 46mm's. It doesn't look as big as it does in photos when seen in real life. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8016/6...45fb7460_z.jpg |
I've considered getting a Bell&Ross for a lonnnnng time.. as much as I love how they look, I can't justify paying that much for a stock ETA movement |

Even I admit they over charge for a off the shelf ETA movement. But I absolutely love the look of it, especially the steel casing. That's why I got it lol. This is my other watch, Lum Tec M32. #32 of 150. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7019/6...05afa94b_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6...31436880_z.jpg |
Is that your R8 too? :ahwow: |
when people say modified eta movement, what is usually modified? just a stamp on the rotor and a bit of finishing? |
The whole thing. There's a million ways to make a watch move. Other brands design their own proprietary movements. Bell&Ross basically went to a supplier and said "hey I need an automatic piece to put in my watch case." A ~$100-$500 Invicta watch uses pretty much same movement. So other than the casing, the internals are basically all the same. You're just paying for the look/brand name. I'll give it to Bell&Ross though. Their marketing and designs must be spot-on to be doing so well. |
what about panerais? arent they eta based? or heavily modified? |
Some Panerais use ETA movements and some use in house movements. That's one reason Rolex and Patek are special - all their movements are in house. Seiko actually also produces their own movements and that's why to enthusiasts who look beyond price a Seiko is a very respectable watch. |
Seiko also makes watches for astronauts :ahwow: |
and seiko also supplies to a myriad of other watch brands with their movements, TAG heuer, orient etc |
Some Omega use ETA movement as well if I recall correctly. |
I just recently started wearing/buying watches. Just bought two off of Hautelook for what seemed to be a decent price. The two watches I purchased came to about 200. One was an Invicta, the other Swiss Legend. I did a bit of research on Craigslist and found these brands to sell for 100-300. Don't know much about brands, quality from these companies. I'm used to seeing Seiko, Bulova, Omega etc.. at The Bay which my dad tells me are good quality watches for your average man. |

There's a few luxury watches for sale at the VPD bike auction today; some are pretty brat up though and in need of service. They had two Tag's a Rollie and a Omega Seamaster. |
