Of course not when you are not chinese. Darthchili means the 7th Canuck is so lame.

Just got back from the open practice. The place was pretty empty, but the people who were there were pretty loud and happy. Sanford beat out Luongo again in the shootout. I lucked out with autographs. A good dozen or so, including Luongo. It pays when you're one of the few who remembered to bring sharpies. Who's the dude on the team who has very dark skin? He looked a little South Asian. I suck at identifying players.

Could be. He was kind of short, too.

Yeah, it's Krog.

Razor Ramon HG 10-26-2008 03:22 PM

Bernier was exceptionally nice. Caught him exiting the arena in his car and taking autographs for a couple dozen people. Fans were ecstatic.

At the walkway from the home bench to the dressing room. During the hockey stick signings. One by one, they left after signing the sticks that those lucky bastards won at the open practice. After the dozen or so autographs, I'm having a hard time figuring out who's is who's. Some of them have jersey numbers as part of their signatures, but there are some weird ones. Lu's is just three loops. lu

LOL, I got Bieksa's autograph outside the driveway into the underground parking lot before the alumni game (just missed Raymond). Boy, some of those players drive nice cars. Kesler almost ran me over. He was late for the event and he booted it into the parkade without really looking or slowing down. Anyway, I saw Bieksa in the walkway to the dressing room again after the practice. Without thinking about it, I handed him the same T-shirt to sign and he says, "I signed it already." Looked a little upset that I didn't recognize him.

EDIT: Durrann1984, were you the Asian guy I accidentally elbowed in the face when I turned around? If you were, sorry. I got a little carried away.

Overall, I thought the open practice was a little better than last year. I had way better seats last year. Right in front of the play board they put up on the glass. This year, the atmosphere was more lively.

Next....... superskills!

Razor Ramon HG 10-26-2008 07:35 PM

Next year I'm getting lower bowl seats that's for sure, nothing good happens to people up in balcony!

MG1 10-26-2008 09:43 PM

^^^Just have to be in the right spot at the right time. I had seats up in the balcony, but when the practice was over, I made my way down to section 117. While everybody was in the middle of leaving and people were trying to get the T-shirts fired from Fin, I just made my way to the railings of the wallkway.

You need mad ninja skills, LOL

the_rickster 10-26-2008 09:47 PM

Hahah, dude, we tried to sit in lower bowl, but the guys stopped us. Afterwards, my buddy's parents/niece shows up and sits with us upstairs in the balcony. They hate the view (as ironic as that is) so they move down into lower bowl without problems. We had a great time as we saw everything, but we hated ourselves once we found out the niece got autographs of everyone. That and we were watching what the people were pulling from the envelopes instead of making our way downstairs!

But oh well, we'll catch them next time!

you keep saying for your daughter -- we all know it's really for yourself! you can just fess up!

the_rickster 10-26-2008 10:09 PM

if dude BROUGHT his daughter, he might score a stick or something. athletes are much more likely to give their shit to kids than some 'collector'.

when i was little and canucks first started practicing at 8 rinks, i scored a TON of shit. bure's gatorade bottle, ronning's helmet, mclean's stick (my buddy got his BLOCKER), tons of autographs etc.

Haha....... Nope, not me. I don't wear jerseys with other people's name on the back. I don't believe in making pro sports personalities or celebrities my heroes. Heroes are people who save lives and lay their lives on the line for others on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, I understand how people look up to others and worship them. I'm just not that type.

Uh, my daughter wasn't at the signing. She had to work today. She's a total Canuck fan and watches every game when she can. You see, the Canucks are the only thing I have in common with her. When you become a parent, you'll understand what it means to slowly see your kids grow up and lose connection with you.

Anyway..........

the_rickster 10-26-2008 10:28 PM

i'm a parent. 13 weeks today. i couldn't imagine losing this connection (even though it's a very basic but intense level). good on ya for putting out an effort when most fathers would be ignorant pricks.

13 weeks........ boy, I remember how amazing it was. You never, ever have enough video footage of them. Your world changes so much when you have kids. I have three of them. All university age now, but holy cow was it nuts around the house when they were little. Anyway, this is a hockey thread.........

I really enjoy taking in the open practice. It's cool to see the players do dumb things to each other and have fun. There was no pie in the face this year, but it was good to hear the coaches explain stuff during the practice. Something new this year, I think.
