Werd. This is the first SC final I've seen where I favour both teams equally.

Pronger to LA for Johnson and 5th reportly.

That trade sounds too good to be true for Anaheim. Almost sounds like LA got ripped off if the trade did go through.

Jack Johnson being a young up and comer who played 20+ minutes a game on D, and 5th overall pick for someone like Pronger who is a UFA at the end of 2010 I believe.

stuff99 06-12-2009 11:58 AM

its not official yet

7seven 06-12-2009 12:09 PM

Speculation is that the deal is done and the league asked the Kings and Ducks to hold off on formally announcing it until tommorrow so it doesn't take attention away from game 7 tonight.

Something that most don't know, trades can be made after the trade deadline. The trade deadline only affects playoff roster eligibility. ie... Linden was traded in the middle of the playoffs from the Islanders to the Canadiens back in the day

Wow.. if this is true then Anaheim got a steal..

He even mentioned that today on the Team 1040 about how it was nice to land the commentator role because it gave him the opportunity to see the game from a different perspective.

Agreed!

Tonight, I hope Pittsburgh will win (so that Hossa goes home empty handed again), but think Detroit will prevail.

Chairman Kaga 06-12-2009 02:50 PM

I don't know why everybody wants Hossa to lose. Am I the only one that thinks he made the right move?

As a professional athlete isn't it everybody's dream to win the stanley cup? He took less money to go to a great contender so he can get a good shot at the cup. I hope he wins it tonight.

He is making $7.45 M this season. I don't think he took *that* much of a pay cut. Good luck in him getting more than a $7M contract next season.

Hell ya he made the right move. Detroit is your BEST chance of winning why wouldn't you want to go there?

Seriously, who would have thought Pittsburgh would have made it to the cup again this year?

But Detroit I'm sure is no surprise at all.

7seven 06-12-2009 03:10 PM

I just hope Pittsburgh loses because I can't stand CINDY Crosby, what a whiny little bitch.

Uh...he turned down a 90+ MILLION contract from the Oilers! If that isn't a significant pay cut then I have no fucking clue what is.

Last summer, Hossa spurned a multi-year contract offer from Pittsburgh, reportedly worth $49 million US, and untold millions more from the Edmonton Oilers to sign a discounted, one-year deal with Detroit.

The Red Wings offered him only $7.5 million US, and, to the surprise of everyone, he accepted.

"I have never been involved in a deal and seen a player get so excited to take $85 million less than he was offered elsewhere," Rich Winter, Hossa's agent, told The Canadian Press at the time. "It is almost incomprehensible, even to an agent, but Marian is a special player."

I think there are quite a lot team that wouldn't mind spending $7M for him next season

Let's go Red Wings!

Learn to read and add.

$49M from Pittsburgh, but they never said how many years. Assuming a 5 year contract, it is $9.8M a year. But if it was a 7 year deal, then that is $7M a year.
He was 29 last year. Do you honestly think the Pens would offer him a 5 year or 6 year deal?
LeCavailer was 28 when he signed an 11 year $84 million dollar deal.

And anyways, all he has to do is sign one of those multi year contracts this summer, and I'm sure there are some teams willing to do it.

So I still stand at he did not take too much of a pay cut to play in Det.

Depends on the contract, but for the most part, no.

Heatley is looking for a trade out of Ottawa. Take a serious look and see how many teams are willing to take on his $7.5M a year contract?
