driving in the main/big roads isn't that bad. its mostly slush.

but its a totally different story on the small side streets

qma 12-17-2008 03:49 PM

i hate snow...my car is stuck on a side street in east van hahah...probably gonna be there for a few days.

If you live or work in the Fraser Valley and want to get to and from Langley quickly, take the side roads. Bradner Road through Gloucester Industrial Park, turn onto 264th and head north to River Road. Take that west until you hit Fort Langley. Take 96th Avenue to where ever. If you need to go further west, turn right at 176th an go north. At the dead end (104th), turn left. At the secondary school (168th street), turn right. When you get to 160th, turn left. Keep heading west past the Esso gas station and turn right at the turn around (157a). 157th turns into 110 avenue. This will take you right to the 152nd on ramp. If you turn left, you get into Surrey. Right and you get onto the Port Mann.

Believe me, this will save you oodles of time during snow storms and major accidents along Hwy 1. Hwy 1 is a freaking nightmare when major accidents occur.

If you are going the other direction, slight changes to the route, but basically the same. Be warned that the road down to River road on 264th has some pretty steep sections. This is only for those people who have very good ice/snow tires.

Today, I left for home (Abby to Langley) at the same time as a co-worker, who lives very close to me. She is still on the freeway and I've been home for half an hour. She figures another 45 minutes before she gets to 200th street exit. I didn't have the heart to tell her that there is an accident at the exchange. Anyway..........

^^^

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that route when I head out to my parents'.

Hwy #1 is closed from Abbotsford (Sumas Exit) to Chilliwack (Vedder Rd exit).

took my buddy 2 hours to get from his house (140th & 88th) to my house (156 and 101 a) yesterday.

It took me an extra 15 mins to get home from work when my usual drive is 2.5 mins. Insane! Atleast it didnt snow last night

* it will snow hard on sunday *
Please do not go out in 3 season tires........
Not only it is not save for yourself , but it will add danger to difficulty for others.
all season tires tend to lose it gripping power at a temperature like this.

LOL. thats why I left at 1:00. Took me 50 minutes to go from Delta to Langley and that included picking my kid up from daycare on the way. It normally takes about 35 minutes so at that time the main roads weren't actually that bad.

Ikkaku 12-18-2008 11:06 AM

Please don't snow on Sunday night... I need to get to airport by 6am Monday morning.

I'm going crazy... I've been stuck at home for the past few days, which I wanted to enjoy with friends before I head to Hong Kong. Damn you random snow storm, damn you.

vbikki 12-18-2008 11:10 AM

It's not getting around in snow that's the issue it's the fact that it takes way longer to get anywhere. I have a 4x4 truck with winter tires trust me it's not an issue at all. Those tires and that four wheel drive didn't stop some lady from spinning out down a hill and coming within feet of smashing up my truck before she crashed into the ditch. My two year old was in the truck with me as well, I mean ya it's fun having people smash into you with kids in the car.

True! it's scary when that happens, but that doesn't mean people should be irate with a natural occurrence of crystallization of precipitation. We have a people problem. People Under skilled, or People under equipped. I'm guessing A more than B...

Anyone remember the one in 96?
