Hah. While you chumps are digging your cars out of your driveways I'll be soaking up the sun in New Orleans.

...well.. except on Sunday... looks like I might have to roll my sleeves down...

matrixfwd 02-22-2009 09:00 PM

well i spent an hour today taking off my winter tires. what a workout it was. How tight are the lug nuts supposed to be? Is a torque wrench necessary? I just hand tightened them.

hotjoint 02-22-2009 09:12 PM

it aint gonna snow anymore, not hard that is, maybe just some small flurries that shouldnt last that long

Depends if you have alloy wheels or steel rims. I would venture to guess 85 ft/lbs should be more than adequate. As long as you tightened them evenly and did so with the car off the sitting position enough to allow the wheel to seat properly as you tightened the nuts, you should be fine.

What the fuck is this?

i've been told 1/4 turn with lug wrench if hand-tightening.

if you are going to be doing this stuff yourself for the foreseeable future go invest in a torque wrench... maybe go to KMS and see what they have?

Soundy 02-23-2009 06:01 AM

^+1... try Princess Auto as well.

!LittleDragon 02-23-2009 08:55 AM

I usually do 80-90ft/lbs... which is about half my weight with a foot long tire iron. Too lazy to whip out and adjust a torque wrench for something like that.

CaptFiero 02-23-2009 09:21 AM

IIRC My service manual says steel wheels 75lbs Aluminum wheels 90lbs. The aluminum is softer so you must toque them a little more to keep them from loosening off.
