One thing is for sure though, the audio quality on the Nexus S was far superior to that of my SGS2 (and I've owned several of both phones.) I found unanimously that the speakerphone was much clearer and amplified than on the SGS2. Hopefully the Nexus Prime will at least, match that quality.

That's cause the Nexus S uses a kickass Wolfson audio amp. Not sure why they changed it with the SGS2. No guarantee the prime will use the same chipset.

This is the phone I'm waiting on. Nexus FTW.

CRS 10-05-2011 03:43 PM

Hmmmm so maybe I'll hold off on getting the Nexus S....

Yeah no point getting nexus S when prime will be released this month. Not sure when Canadian carriers will get it though.

So thats why my conference calls sound so damn good.

I was wondering why so.

BTW - i've been using the Nexus S for a year still a great phone.

woob 10-05-2011 11:21 PM

If the Prime still uses the Wolfson chip, I will finally be able to stop using an mp3 player in addition to a phone.

Culverin 10-05-2011 11:28 PM

OMG. The Nexus S stocks a woflson?

If the Prime has a wolfson, wow, I must have.

All the galaxy s series phones use wolfson.

from MobileSyrup

the galaxy Nexus is apparently the go-to market name for the rumoured “Nexus Prime”, this is the “something BIG” that Samsung will be announcing on Tuesday. According to a report on BGR it’ll be another pure Google experience, exclusively available on Verizon in the United States. There’s no word on a Canadian, we know it’ll eventually be coming but don’t know when or with who. The following specs have been revealed: Android OS 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich”, 9mm thin (that’s crazy thin), a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD curved display (resolution of 1280 x 720), 1.2GHz TI OMAP 4460 dual-core Cortex A9 processor, 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel camera that can shoot 1080p HD videos, 1.3 front-facing camera, Wi-Fi, NFC and a 1750 mAh battery… plus it’s LTE/HSPA so it’ll be very interesting to see who launches it here in Canada.

Samsung uploaded a video a couple days ago that showed a glimpse of the curved device, which also gave insight into how thin it is too. More will be revealed on Tuesday…

I didn't know all Galaxy S series phones had that.

All I do know is download a kernel with Voodoo Sound support because the guy who made Voodoo Sound has the Wolfson sound whatever integrated into it --> therefore, good sound. I'm sure he's made voodoo sound for SGS2 so no problem?

I'll stick with waiting for Rogers' SGS2 LTE to come out. I don't understand why Nexus Prime's camera is still at 5MP and they should clock that processor higher. All I know is that Cyanogen is part of the Samsung team now so hopefully this Prime is better than it sounds at the moment.

!Yaminashi 10-06-2011 08:42 AM

4.65" screen? Isnt that even bigger than the Infuse? That phone is already a monster and nearly impossible to use with one hand

!MiKrofT 10-06-2011 09:08 AM

Galaxy Nexus (prime) will be Verizon exclusive for awhile. Guess we all gotta wait.

Voodoo sound is a driver that controls the hardware wolfson audio amp. If you're phone doesn't have the chip there will be no voodoo sound support. Sgs2 doesn't have a wolfson therefore no voodoo sound.

Ah alright I didn't know that. Damn that's disappointing. Besides the Prime having a slightly higher pixel density and being the first phone with Ice Cream Sandwich, what other pros could it have over the SGS 2 (curved screen and being a Google phone don't really cut it :P )

Well...the Nexus S is being cleared out from Roger's innovatory. It's on clearance and will be going to carriers like Koodoo now for $300/$400 I believe.

Perhaps it is still better to wait because once they go on blowout prices, if you're not doing a HUP, the value of the phone will drop like a fly. I was able to pick up a mint condition Nexus S for $300 in April and I thought that was a pretty good deal. I definitely wouldn't recommend spending anything more than that now.

Ya the Infuse may have an 4.5" screen but the squared shape makes it awkward and monstrous. The curved glass on this phone is going to make the 4.65" screen feel comfortable and and non-obtrusive for its users.

What are the chances of Fido getting the Prime? :( I want to upgrade out of my Blackberry 9700 and I have access to the Fido Ambassador plans (currently with Bell on Enbridge plan + add-on BB data).
