Have you been to the Victor at the Parq casino? The courtyard just outside it is pretty nice if you ask me. Big water feature with BC place literally adjacent to it and the patio overlooks it. It's pretty nice. If you go when it's dark, BC place is lit up and it looks pretty cool.

Nightengale is one of our favourite restaurants, but I wouldn't call that romantic either. Food is great there.

Or my favourite is Blue Water.

Might have to consider this one after taking a closer look at the menu.

I had our anniversary dinner over at the Beachhouse (https://www.thebeachhouserestaurant.ca) last night in West Van followed by a walk along the seawall over to Thierry's for dessert. The view there is great - you see UBC, Stanley Park etc right on the water. The food was solid but unspectacular but being on the water like that was pretty sweet. Lots of white people too if that's your thing. Closer to the Fairmont for that feel would be Cardero's but I wouldn't say it's that great of a restaurant.

Closer to the Fairmont maybe Nightingale? Not too pricey too but lovely woody room with almost a European library feel.

Kissa Tanto definitely has romantic vibes - darker room, booth style seating.

Lupo is in an old house and serves classic Italian.

Yeah, something along the lines of a darker ambiance so it feels cozier.

I really liked the ambiance when I went to Elisa a few months ago.

Heard good things about Kissa Tanto. We actually have a reservation for it as well.

I was actually contemplating taking them to the Victor since they've mentioned before in the past that they liked that restaurant. I just wasn't sure how the vibe was.

There’s a Concorde on display at the Museum of Flight and you can go on board as well.

What are folks paying for oil changes now? I'm almost due for a change and my Acura/Honda dealers are quoting $203 and Overdrive quoted me the same. Back in January I got it done at Destination Honda for $150 so I'm getting a bit of sticker shock. What changed in the last 6 months that prices went up 33%?

Personally I wouldn't call Elisa romantic. It's a wide open room that can get loud. Lots of business dinners and corporate groups. Food is good, but honestly I think a steak at the Keg is just as good. Great service though, but watch out for the upsells.

But Blue Water (also Toptable) is always a nice night out. Quieter dining room and a bit more refined, IMO (still lots of corporate spending though).

I think for cozy, dimlit, less corporate vibe, go with Lupo.

I remember in the early 2000s getting an oil change every 3k for my EG Civic at Walmart for $20 :D

Museum of flight in seattle is top tier, better than the smithsonian in washington dc. so much content you can easily spend a day. First thursday of the month it’s free admission 5pm-9pm but thats not enough time if you take in all the exhibits. Then you follow up with the boeing factory tour in everett.

Sorry let me clarify. Elisa steaks are better, both in the suppliers, cuts and cook.

I just struggle to justify if it's worth the extra cost. My palette can't tell the difference.

Badhobz 07-14-2025 04:53 AM

The keg is the best for value. Nothing can beat a huge 18 ounce prime rib with sides for 48 bucks. You buy a prime rib steak from Costco, a 3 pack will cost you almost 100 dollars. And you gotta cook it yourself and make all the sides

Whatever you do, don’t go to burdock and co. That place is overrated as hell. I don’t know how it got its Michelin star. It’s terrible. Published on main or Anna Leah is much better.

Spent 500 bucks there for two people eating absolute trash.

On a similar note any good suggestions for a place to do your regular scheduled maintenance crap done in East Van? Oil change and the other occasional crap you're supposed to do? I always just take the wifes RDX to Burrard Acura and while I can always just say no to their recommended intervals it's just so expensive.

whitev70r 07-14-2025 05:47 AM

For Oil Change, give Destination Honda on Lougheed and Willingdon a try (not too far from East Van). If you make apt, 30 mins in and out, with a free car wash and vac. And it's still kinda on brand with Acura RDX.

I think in general, cost of oils and car parts have gone up across the board. Even a simple 0W20 oil change with factory oil filter on my Corolla went from $85 to $95 - $105 depending on where you go. On my Boxster, dealerships across the country want $700. Yeah, you read that right. A bulk of the cost is the oil while labour rates and book time remain relatively unchanged. Then again, it could just be the P-car tax.

Inexpensive oil can still be had when you keep an eye out for sale. Keep an eye out on Canadian Tire and Walmart, or even Costco when they have their Kirkland Brand synthetic oil go on sale. Perhaps it's worthwhile to invest in some tools and materials to do the oil changes yourself. I can imagine an oil change on an Acura is relatively easy. Time to pay a visit to Le Garage Badhobz and befriend him, except he won't help you because he loves Lexus only. :toot:

Badhobz 07-14-2025 06:15 AM

Speaking of dealerships, i highly recommend you guys do all your own work if possible.

Look at what happened to me this morning. I was going to leave for work, and i just happen to visually check the rear wheels as ive been hearing a slight clunk sound over the last few days.

https://i.postimg.cc/L8kPGj3r/IMG-5267.jpg

Like are you fucking shitting me!?!??! I got the rear brakes done just recently at the dealership and it looks like they forgot to put in the pin. how the fuck does it vibrate out like that!?

https://i.postimg.cc/6pxRHMnr/1.png

Pay all this money just for the guy to screw it up. I wanna kick myself for being a lazy fucker. Do all your own work if you can, the kids they got at the dealerships nowadays are just trash.

bcrdukes 07-14-2025 06:54 AM

Holy wow.

Badhobz 07-14-2025 07:03 AM

The caliper could have fallen off, snapping the brake line, fluid could have dumped out and i would have been left with zero brakes crashing into a fucking wall....

this is some serious shit.

Always double check the work nowadays. Cant trust these fuckers.

yray 07-14-2025 07:14 AM

had that once in the land rover, 1 wheel was locked but I was in stop and go traffic lol. didn't torque the bolt tight enough

pretty disastrous at highway speed

you should demand for a new caliper

Hondaracer 07-14-2025 07:17 AM

The caliper bouncing around behind the wheel probably could have done a lot worse than just the brake line too

whitev70r 07-14-2025 07:22 AM

Demand a new GTI ... they wrecked this one.

Badhobz 07-14-2025 07:56 AM

Just be careful out there my bros. Double check the work, even though its a pain in the ass to do so. Otherwise you might risk having your wife/kid drive a fucking deathtrap.
