that's peak incompetence to forget to put bolts back on a caliper.... whoever the tech was needs to be fired asap. how could you NOT realize there's two bolts sitting in your work area that used to be on a car unless you're horribly disorganized?

donk. 07-14-2025 03:52 PM

When its 2:55pm and your shift ends at 3pm, those two bolts are tomorrows problem

westopher 07-14-2025 04:58 PM

The thing is, doing a brake job is only 2 bolts. They forgot to do 100% of the bolts.

My company has provided all sorts of swag over the years ive been with them. The list above is what I see most of our employees use love the most.

All the cheaper swag items usually just get donated to other family members, regifted or get trashed. If the items are quite cheap the users just dont enjoy/appreciate it as much.

I concur with the 32oz Hydroflask.

Easily one of the best bang for your buck purchases you can make, and you'll actually use it daily, unlike a lot of that other junk.

Not sure if they’ve changed this since but literally -everywhere- had automatic gratuity without saying so.

It was 20% on top of the bill and THEN they prompted you to tip, it was insane.

3) blankets
4) arcteryx jackets were nice but of course they are like 350 bucks...
5) portable massage guns
6) cell phone, ipod + i watch chargers were a nice touch.

Custom laser cut maps. Made locally in Nanaimo. You could have the map tailored to each employee.

Plus resort fee. Some random streetfront restaurants are attached to hotel property, so you get hit with that too. Restaurant was on the same block as some hotel. Auto grat was still there when I was in Miami in April.
We did check with our servers if that was going to them or the business.

There was one place we went to that it didn't.

National conference. I was chatting with the organizers behind the scenes, and they would have been out a couple million if they cancelled. A few participants elected not to go, but the majority did.

On a more local travel note, can anyone suggest a basic lunch restaurant at least somewhat between Metrotown and Science World that is decent for young kids (ie pasta, pizza, etc). Bonus points if you know if they have egg-free pasta. White Spot is no good, Boston Pizza is a maybe, Spaghetti Factory is a little further than I want to go.

I know chains suck but I'm going for convenience over quality here.

Also on a side note I've been to Isami Sushi before but if there's an even better place for Japanese takeout within a block of Metrotown lmk.

This was like 10 yrs ago but I loved Miami so many good times, but so it was my late 20s.

Cubano sandwich for sure u gotta have as much as you can
Cuban coffee
Go down Calle Ocho Cuban district
Joe's stone crab is a classic but $$$
Get a 2 for 1 giant cocktail off one of the bars on Miami beach

6793026 07-15-2025 05:28 AM

not sure how good it is not but I've been to Sushi Oyama and thought it was ok.

I just came back from Cuba a few weeks ago and I have been traumatized by their interpretation of a Cuban sandwich and I will very likely never have a Cuban coffee ever again.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have a prospective host organization who is based in Miami for my research project. If things materialize, I may need to do some site visits. My preference is NOT to go if I can avoid it because US CBP, ICE, CIA, FBI, Secret Service etc. absolutely dislike academic-related travel the most.

Badhobz 07-15-2025 06:20 AM

if you've already been to cuba, then miami is basically like if you gave all the cubans money.

Basically a whole city of pitbull (the rapper not the dog) doing mR worldwide thangs.... mang....

I like to take my kid to Bells and Whistles at Fraser/17th for lunch - kids meals are $9-11 (https://www.bellsandwhistlesyvr.ca/f...ood#kids-meals) and there's a few arcade games (skee ball, pop a shot, pac-man) that you can play as well. Service can be a bit slow even though it's never busy for lunch but I like their burgers for myself.

I like Hon Sushi which is next to Old Orchard Mall but I like it more because it's cheap and it also offers Korean fried chicken than the fact that it's good (it's good enough though). There's a tiny little sushi place in Old Orchard as well - Haku Sushi - that's better but the menu is smaller and they're so small that they can be really slow if they're busy.
