no kidding. I guess it's not a real man's gym until there's ATLEAST 12 nautilus curls, 4 smith machines and an uneven board.

nope never had a deadlift platform in any gyms ive been to. that includes a south arm community, sportscentral, sfu and oval (when it first opened).

PUPPY 06-26-2011 06:42 PM

what's great about the oval is that nobody goes to the area at the end with the power racks and platforms. and you can do your squats, deads, press, bench and other compound exercises in peace.
most people are busy fascinating over the three sets of dumbbells ranging from 5 lb - 100 lbs, a smith machine, a power rack made for curling, a power rack for miscellaneous use, and 999999 machines in other areas of the gym.

hal0g0dv2 06-26-2011 06:51 PM

The platforms are nice

hardwood floors at a gym...

and a bosu ball of course ;)

they use that rubber material thats made for walking with skates on safely for the rest of the gym, but for some reason, this area with the 4 squat racks and 3 powerlifting platforms has hardwood floors. they also dub it the "high performance" area

guess its not a big deal since no dumb bells would be dropped here

ha, i've tried it. i find it goes down smoother and i dont get as much phlegm in my throat as compared to real pepsi

Awesome. I've been looking for a gym with a similar setup to that for the past 3 years. Too bad I don't live near by.

Do you get to use everything at the Oval for that price? Including the rowing thing and all the courts?

Surprisingly, I've never seen anyone at the Oval drop a weight on the hardwood.

Yes, everything is included although there's a room with equipment downstairs that you can't use without either a trainer's supervision or if they know you well enough to just let you use it. Otherwise, the rinks, courts, spinning rooms, tracks, etc are all there for you to use whenever they aren't booked by teams or whatever.

They're adding a rock climbing wall next year. If they had a pool, it would be perfect.

what ronin said + free fitness classes. doing yoga with an instructor once a week is not bad :)

RRxtar 06-26-2011 10:00 PM

haha this thread is funny. 5 months ago everyone was going on about going to whatever that gym was that cost like $8/month regardless of how absolutely horrible the facilities were. now everyone is talking about how nicely equipped this gym is.

hal0g0dv2 06-26-2011 10:03 PM

I like dead lifting 6 plates

You clowns must have missed the part where I said "equipment notwithstanding". even though you quoted it when attempting to make fun of me

http://carlrules.com/images/seriously.jpg

I was obviously poking fun in a tongue-in-cheek way at the goofy hardwood floors and bosu balls. I obviously know (and acknowledged) that it is a well equipped gym. I just think it looks faggy.

But of course everyone has to get all offended about it, even though it was just a friendly joke...

illicitstylz 06-26-2011 10:25 PM

yeah well evidently nobody finds you funny

SkinnyPupp 06-26-2011 10:31 PM

Evidently people are too busy looking to be OFFENDED to find the humor

Oval gym is sooo f'n nice, but $51 a month is steep when I consider I can get pretty much the same workout at sportscentral for $8 for just the gym. It's pretty fair if you take advantage of all the other amenities available there, however.

Haha I know eh. I tried Sport Central. Good gym, just too many punks leaving weights around, hanging by benches and squat racks and not using them, etc. $8/month... nah.

It is quite expensive. I'm paying about $39/month at Maximum Core. But honestly, Oval gym is beautiful, even just looking over at the architecture is awesome lol. I've already gone a couple times and found the perfect time to go when its not chaotic.

$50/month is steep but I for sure will be shooting hoops and on the ice when the rink opens up again in the winter.

When your Mill Pressing at your gym, are you using the Mill Press Bench specifically meant for that exercise?
