Sweet thanks.. I do those too. Didn't know they were compounds.. But yea, pullups are something I should do more of.

XplicitLuder 06-14-2012 04:13 PM

The_Situation 06-14-2012 05:03 PM

+1 for bent over bb rows

GGnoRE 06-14-2012 05:33 PM

I do dumbbell rows when my glutes or hamstrings are sore from squats or deadlifts.

Do you guys do yate rows (upper body inclined about 45 degrees with underhand grip)? or parallel rows (upper body parallel to floor with overhand grip)?
I hear yate rows are not as effective...

mikemhg 06-14-2012 05:41 PM

Where the FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK IS SUMMER? I'm all in this gym getting amazing gains, dieting like a fool, and for fucking what? I NEED TO HIT THE FUCKING BEACH.

Suprarz666 06-14-2012 05:41 PM

Parallel rows for me. Hits my back great.

Jer3 06-14-2012 05:41 PM

u could also give pendlay rows a try in place of regular bent over bb rows. its one of the 5 major lifts in stronglifts 5x5.

my failed squats, after the 1st rep it wasn't that great =/

Imagine that you have a tail like a donkey, and someone is pulling it straight up. That's the motion you want - use your HIPS to go up. The back will follow.

So after a gruesome back workout and just doing chest yesterday, I managed to get a buddy to record me pressing the 110's... forms lacking and I felt like I coulda pushed for a few more reps, but its what i could make do for now..

110lb x 5 - YouTube

I can't tell from the video but are you arcing your back such that your lower back isn't touching the bench? Are you pushing with your feet? It's not that the way you're doing it is "incorrect" but there is a much more efficient way of doing any sort of chest press. Rippetoes has a very good way. The chest press should be a full body exercise (to an extent) if you want to do it in the most efficient way and push the most weight.

Oh yeah, what gym is that? I wish FW Kingsway had DB that went 100+. Sigh.

instantneedles 06-14-2012 09:43 PM

My back wasn't arched, so everything's touching the bench, my right arm is a bit stronger than my left so theres a balance issue there...

Yeah, whenever I do chest press I try to keep things fairly tight and snug, not alot of arching cus I like to isolate the movement as much as I can and work on chest strength..

It's gold's gym burnaby, come join man, your lifts will up a few just by being in the atmosphere, tons of provincial and national level bodybuilders and powerlifters there... mike goes there too.... dumbbels go to 150 or 160 i believe

thegentleman 06-14-2012 09:52 PM

^ When I had my trial there at Golds Burnaby, I loved the music they played.

It's too expensive...I think, LOL. My Boss goes there. That guy is fucking jacked. If you ever see a big, tall, jacked and balled chinese guy, that's him.

instantneedles 06-14-2012 09:57 PM

That'd be like picking a needle out of a haystack, everyone's too big and too jacked there to tell the difference.... what does he usually wear to workout?
