I haven't found many beers that do much to excite me recently. Any recommendations?

punkwax 05-15-2015 06:48 PM

Somewhat reluctantly picked one of these up the other day:

I'm not a fan of Red Racer myself, but this beer was actually not too bad! Definitely worth a try..

Obsideon 05-15-2015 06:51 PM

I saw that too, sounds disgusting lol...
Made the horrible mistake of giving Coors Iced Tea and those other stupid ones a try. Never again.

punkwax 05-15-2015 06:54 PM

Ya.. I guess the Canuck in me just had to try many things Canadian in one bottle.. beer, bacon and maple syrup :lol

Didn't regret the decision but not going to run out for more.

$55 is hella steep for a beer ...

my buddy said it can be picked up the BCL for around 28-35

Anyone know when Rickards Shandy will become available again?

Highly recommended. Everyone seems to be coming out with Sours lately, I've tried a few different ones Including the P49 one but this one was fantastic. It's a lot like the barley wines but this one has so much depth to it I really enjoyed it. Could drink a few bottles of this and it wouldn't taste the same from one sitting to the next I'd think

Anyone give Sriracha beer a try yet?

http://a57.foxnews.com/global.fncsta....jpg?ve=1&tl=1

I saw it at the beer and wine store yesterday. I didn't buy it because it was $15 for one bottle. Now, I'm thinking I might just purchase it because I'm really curious as to how it tastes.

Shandy was last year's seasonal which they have replaced this year with their Radler.
The Rickards Shandy was actually pretty tasty. Shocktop has a Shandy out this year, haven't had it yet.

Yeah the Rickards Shandy was really good. Not too sweet or overly lemony, it's just the perfect amount.

Don't bother with the shock top shandy. It's way too sweet and tastes more like lemonade then a beer.

Speaking of beers... anyone going to Craft Beer Week?

Spoiler!

It's like $34.99 for admission and then $1.25 for "beer tokens" that you can redeem at over 400 craft beer stalls in the PNE fair.
IMO the admission price is kinda steep but if got nothing better to do on Sunday afternoon...

punkwax 06-02-2015 08:08 PM

Dang.. didn't try the shandy despite a friend recommending it. Didn't realize it was last year only :(

Where can I try this? Is it available at the BC Liquor store?
I tried getting that other Sour recommended in this thread but it's sold out everywhere.

I've tried it when I went down to Portland last year. To me it taste like a Guinness with siracha added to it. It's a beer that you need to drink cold, taste disgusting when warm. IMO good for marinating meats.

Presto 06-03-2015 09:47 AM

^^

I bought a bottle the other day because I was really curious. I would say the beer is more like a Pacific Schwarzbock due to the higher alcohol content, taste, and foam color.

For the money, I'd rather experiment by mixing stout with sriracha. $15 gets a lot more beer than one bottle of this stuff.

i got it at the liquor store up from starbucks on hastings, not sure of the cross street there, just up from BK and Renfrew

PSA for those who missed it first time around:

On a related note, P49's Apricot Sour that is out now (Apricoctopus) is not bad. Nowhere near as complex as Necatrous but good for the fact you can pick it up now at your local BC Liquor Store for under $5 before tax.

Hondaracer 06-24-2015 02:00 PM

i dont really care for P49 anymore, they seem to just want to pump out as many beers as possible. Which, in some ways is admirable because they are trying to reach many people and many completely different styles of beer, but on the other hand i find the vast majority of their stuff half-ass now.

picked this up last week, just tried it yesterday

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...j.jpg~original

i was somewhat intruiged by a 2014 limited release promoting a "fresh hopped" brew, but it was simply a typical belgian beer mascardaring as a very light ESB/wit

pretty much i'm done with anything with the word "belgian or belgium" in it, you can replace those words with "wit" essentially, and i dont care for wit beers at all

sonick 06-24-2015 02:48 PM

Agreed with your sentiments on P49, felt the same way for a long time. I am just a sucker for sours lately.

Can't say the same about wit beers, I thoroughly enjoyed multiple pints of Dageraad De Witte's the last time I was at St Augustines :drunk:

So.. was at a party recently with a bucket of these on ice and couldn't get enough.

Seems to me Red Racer (they brew for CC) is upping their game big time.

MindBomber 06-24-2015 03:39 PM

I also share those sentiments on Parallel 49 and have for some time.

They can't compete with Driftwood, Four Winds, Yellow Dog, etc.

FN-2199 06-24-2015 04:03 PM

Steel & Oak just released their Sapperton Sour Red Lager and a dark lager to celebrate their first anniversary.

I haven't had the dark lager, but if you're in love with the sours that are coming out, you'll love this one.
