Choices from last night:

Only ended up drinking that moon potts Pilsner, was very good.

Also just now hit up the parallel 49 tasting room for the first time, pound those paddles!

Dunno if it's like a nostalgia thing or just can't remember clearly but lately I've been disliking more of the P49 beers than liking them, they had a few new IPA's, I beleive the hopnitist was my favorite of the bunch

jolly shady, its beer mix with soda (its not the sames as mixing it yourself)

My tastes have gone away from the super IBU hoppy IPAs and Imperial IPAs lately and gone for more mellow but still hoppy beers.

Four Winds Juxtapose Brett IPA is probably my favourite IPA right now. Light and drinkable but such complex flavours from the brettanomyces that adds such a nice tart earthy aroma to the fruity hops.

Couple of good summer beers I've enjoyed

Blood orange pale ale from Elysian

Can you get them locally? I had those in Malaysia, they are pretty good.

Not a fan

MindBomber 08-31-2014 02:08 PM

I've refused to drink P49 since they released their berliner weisse, and left it on shelves even once it proved to be literally undrinkable.

Overall, they seem to have been going downhill since shortly following their opening.

This is not surprising given their gimmicky, marketing based style seems more reminiscent of macros than great micros.

Preparatons for my trip to Oktoberfest/Germany

Eternal_SiR 09-02-2014 12:56 PM

I'm a pretty loyal 4 Winds guy, great people plus a bonus is they are around the corner from my work. I love their triplicity if your lucky to get some in the bottles. I had them save me a case when they first started bottling. Definately not an everday beer as its more on the expensive side, but at 9% and tasting like honey water, it gets dangerous fast. Their Saison and Wistism is really good too, had a keg of those a while back.
Steel and Oak is another friendly place, i love their Smoked hefeweisen.

Looks like its fresh hops season again. Driftwood and Powell are at it for sure.

Hondaracer 09-20-2014 06:26 AM

When do they usually release?

Driftwood is out next week.

Bomber and Main Street are supposedly also doing them.

Lions Winter Ale won Georgia Strait's Best Beer award :fuckthatshit:

punkwax 09-20-2014 08:25 AM

I don't get the appeal with the winter ale. I don't mind 1, but wouldn't grab a 6er to watch a game.

Going to a BBQ today - will grab a few different crafts and report back.

Edit:

Weapons of choice:

Vancouver Island Brewing - Sabotage India Session Ale
Phillips Brewing Co - Ginger Beer (Big fan of Phillips, haven't tried the ginger, figured I'd give it a shot)
Driftwood Brewery Pale Ale

All new to me.

Edit II:

Started with Sabotage. Good, crisp, drinkable beer. Not overly hoppy and a good start.
Moved onto Driftwood. Also a good drinking beer. Little hops again but nothing overpowering. Will buy again.
Had the Phillips ginger beer last. Aftertaste was definitely gingery. Glad I tried it, but like winter ale, could do 1 but definitely wouldn't choose it for a steady drinking day. Overall a good beer though.

Sabotage wins.

Gah, Brewery Creek sold out of Sartori in like 3 hours. Didn't make it in time.

sonick 09-23-2014 09:07 AM

Yeah I missed it too :okay:

Hondaracer 09-23-2014 09:42 AM

Are the Sartoris only available at beer stores? BCL doesn't jnow anything about them

sonick 09-23-2014 10:09 AM

Yeah, only private cold beer/wine stores as far as I know.

O'hares in Richmond supposed to get it at the end of the week.

Value on Liquor still hasn't gotten their shipment yet.

TOS'd 09-23-2014 11:00 AM

How much do the sartoris go for?

Hondaracer 09-23-2014 11:22 AM

Found some..I'll let you guys know where once I've got what I need lol sorry

Also seems like this place is limit two or else I'd buy em all

Expresso 09-23-2014 11:50 AM

Just got some at Viti. There almost out they say. Also Liberty and Tobys on Commercial still have a few left. Call before you go.

I read BCL got some last year not sure about this year. Just follow Driftwood on Twitter they usually post what stores carry em. Then call and see if they have stock.

Also got two bottles of Hoynes version as well.

Expresso 09-23-2014 12:41 PM
