lol 5 is kind of harsh. It's a Pale Ale in the end. I found the initial taste to be bit off putting though. Tasted really floral or something.

Not a beer aficianado and it's probably mentioned in this thread but I love the oak flavor you get from Innis & Gunn

Night off so I'm indulging midweek.

Headed off to the liquor store right before closing to pick up some Hoyne Dark Matter after a friend recommended it. I don't talk beer much so excuse any nub talk.

Pours dark as you'd hope by the name. Had a nice tan head on it, which dissipated fairly quickly. Has a nice chocolaty smell to it. Tastes a little less strong than the scent. Drinks real smooth.

And if you hate talking about beer like that. Dark Matter is a fun dark beer, nothing amazing but I'd have it again any time I want something dark and malty.

I've got a Sam Adams Octoberfest and a Phillips Chocolate Porter lined up. But I think I'll save the Phillips for another night because of the similarities with the above beer.

Heading into Autumn, any seasonal recommendations?

what's everyone's bang-for-buck go-to cheap beer?
for me it's coors or pabst. 15pack=$20-22

Hondaracer 10-02-2014 08:30 AM

Keith's IPA is my go to

Is the Hoyne dark matter a stout?

For the sake of sullying the IPA name by misleading the unwashed masses to thinking Keith's is what IPA is, I refuse to drink it.

Fuggles & Warlock has a fresh hop beer on tap which I tried last night. Very heavy handed on the hops, did not have the 'freshness' that typical wet hopped beers have. Not bad, but loses the magic of the fresh hops.

They also have a beer with Brett, which I am excited to try.

Meh Keith's may promote it as an IPA but I think it tastes infinitely better than any other run of the mill coors, bud, Kokanee etc

Great taste and high drinkability

Hi guys, so I copped a bottle of the Sartori. Found bottles and bottles of these at a local beer store (Victoria), fully stocked. Quite odd since according to you guys, it's sold out everywhere in Vancouver. I figured less people visit this store I guess.

Anyways, it's a great IPA. When drank cold, there's a numbness and you can't really taste it's flavours very much. As the the beer becomes warmer, the tones of the beer becomes more apparent. Like another member has stated, the bitterness will be loud and clear when drank at room-temperature. But then again, like a pint of Guiness, the bitterness becomes acquired taste.

After swallowing, you get a waft of fruity tone, fresh pear and citrus notes.

Overall, I would rate this 8/10. :concentrate:

Cariboo, but there a few really legit cheap beers out there.

Bowen Island Mutiny Red Ale is great for the price.

I'm a big fan of Budweiser Crown. Actually has some substance to it. I find it a great 'after work' beer to have with dinner.

Miller Highlife is a staple when I cross the line. I always bring a case home with me. The only Miller beer I enjoy.

I'm looking for new lager style beers to try. What's everyone's favs?

It seems most have big hard-ons for IPA's, but I'm sure you guys have some less 'hoppy' beers you enjoy now and then?

A fav of mine is the Whistler Brewing Powder Mtn lager, but it's been tough to find lately.
...and by tough to find, I mean the BC Liquor store by my place hasn't been stocking it lol :D

usually when i cross the border a pick up blue moon. maybe i will consider miller highlife when i cross. i tried a miller once when i crossed and i didn't enjoy it that much but i can't remember which one.

Lager-style beers I like Czechvar, Hacker-Pschorr Munchuner Gold, Peroni, Pilsner Urquell.

Non-IPA/Hop beers I really like Belgians (Dageraad is awesome), saisons, sours (albiet rare). With winter coming, stouts & imperial stouts.

ESB's and other ales (pale, red) are ok but not my preferred.

Not a big fan of wheat or hefe beers.

Speaking of winter, it's almost hermannator time :woot:

MindBomber 10-08-2014 08:03 AM

That's right! Hermannator's back in about a month! :drunk:

MindBomber 10-08-2014 10:05 AM

I'm curious to try Central City Brewers x Four Winds Brewery's "Maiden Voyage."

It is a cedar aged pale ale. Anyone try it yet?

cctw 10-08-2014 07:22 PM

Hondaracer 10-16-2014 03:21 PM

That powell street wet hopped kind of has an identity crisis. Will have to try it again when I'm not so congested :/

Expresso 10-16-2014 07:06 PM

^^^tastes like an IPA right?

sonick 10-16-2014 09:27 PM
