What can Raymond get you? :fullofwin: lol

Gillis wouldn't have been able to swing that deal if SJ knew what they were doing cap-wise before acquiring Dany Heatley.

The Nashville Predators forward Alexander Radulov has decided to return to Russia to continue his career in the Continental Hockey League (KHL). His agent, Yuri Nikolaev, made the announcement in the Russian daily Izvestiya on Monday. Last week, the formation of CSKA Moscow had acquired the rights of the talented forward. CSKA, including former NHL player Sergei Fedorov is the general manager, would have made a significant financial compensation for Ufa Salavat Yulaev for Radulov. The most persistent rumors suggest that Radulov could become the highest paid hockey player in the world, an annual income of over $ 12 million. Radulov Predators Joined in March, but general manager David Poile said a few days ago that he was not interested in keeping its services for the next campaign. Russian 25 years has amassed seven points in nine games with the Predators last season. In the playoffs, he added six points in eight games.

@News1130Sports: CKWX the 1st to report - the #Canucks have qualified the contract of goalie Cory Schneider - moments ago.
@News1130Sports: Just talked to potential #Canucks u-f-a Byron Bitz who says no contact with the Canucks.
@News1130Sports: #Canucks have also just qualified the contract of forward Dale Weise. Agent Allain Roy just confirmed.

murd0c 06-18-2012 10:50 AM

I really wonder what they qualified Schneider at

clowe 06-18-2012 10:56 AM

$945,000, because he made between 660k-1m, a 5% raise is required to qualify him. It doesn't really mean anything, it's simply just to retain his rights.

spideyv2 06-18-2012 11:13 AM

Lack has also been qualified

Hondaracer 06-18-2012 11:25 AM

Bitz is gone, not worth the headaches

I know it's Kyper but take it with a grain of salt..

Also, with draft day fast approaching, is anyone else just a little sad at the prospect of losing Lu? Haha, he's been here a while for us and I've always supported him.

punkwax 06-18-2012 06:38 PM

What I think is sad is the amount of fans who want to run the Canucks' first ever elite goaltender out of town. That's what is sad if you ask me.

Fixed. True Canucks fans who lived through the times of Weeks, Burke, Essensa, Potvin Cloutier, Skudra, Hedberg, Norenen, Brochu etc would never run him out of town.

It's just that how good the team is right now. We have two quality goalies who can provide elite goaltending for us in the playoffs.

Trading Luongo would make our goalie position 7 years younger allowing the team to extend its window of opportunity longer. It would probably reduce our cap hit in goal. It would bring back (assuming it's a hockey trade) a veteran player to help us.

The only pro I see in trading Schneider is us getting more in return.

Hopefully Schnieds doesn't shit the bed though.. cause all hell is gonna break loose if that happens

We've seen him handle game 4 and 5 against LA. He was composed. Just hope he maintains that, despite the enormous pressure here in Van.

Agree on getting younger, but you also lose several years of 'prime' experience in doing so. Sure Schneider was on the bench during the 2011 run, but its not the same as having actually played the run. And I'm not sure how many more years our current window has, maybe as little as one or two. Our core players will still be good solid players after that, but they likely will fall out of the elite league. Our elite prospect pool is a bit thin, there are no real heirs to the Sedins in the works. Our future is with Zach Kassian, and while I like his potential, its just that for the next 1-3 years.

To play devil's advocate, Schneider is probably worth ~3.5M cap hit. Lu's cap hit was 5.3M. The 1.8M saved doesn't even get you Mason Raymond... And this is assuming that we don't have to pick up a veteran to back up CS, I'm not entirely convinced he can take on a full season's workload 60-70 games without some experienced guidance nor is it entirely wise to use up one of your window years relying on a fresh starting goalie with 60 NHL games experience and a rookie for a backup.
