Oh if anyone is doing a contract, do it through Caya. $25 gift card and free Whistler lift pass. Not a bad deal at all.

Good thing i dont use either! Facebook and twitter are always the first things i uninstall.

@knight604 im guessing you bought 2? Fido effed me. Went in to pick it up after work, but nope the whole system was down. Will have to wait til tmrw.

rk604 02-05-2013 06:37 PM

i got white from fido as well...so you are not the only one. Instagram can be run if you download the app the has been "sideloaded" for android. The blackberry itself does not have to run android, as it supports android 2.x.x

phone os is definitely top notch and puts bberry back in the spot with iphone and android. once they have the app selection, i think they could convince some people over!

knight604 02-05-2013 07:01 PM

Sad thing is not much apps right now, i side loaded Hookt and whatsapp.

I am waiting for them to release a native one..

Whatsapp has problems , a bit laggy and you cant message people, they can message you cause your contacts with sync.

Hookt is no problem but a bit laggy as well.

eLy604 02-05-2013 08:12 PM

i've sideloaded google maps and that one seems to work perfectly fine for me.

i also got a snes emulator sideloaded as well hahaha playing super mario rpg for fun

RRxtar 02-05-2013 08:12 PM

I imagine most of the apps that are expected to come should be available by the time of the US launch in March.

So far everything seems to be running great. I cant believe how snappy things load. Its super quick and smooth. The OS feels 'lite' if you know what I mean, it doesnt feel bogged down.

My brightness is fine. Theres a suggestion that the dim/yellowish screen might have been the evaluation units or early runs. There is a thread on crackberry trying to figure it out.

My battery life is good. I had it plugged into my pc for abit while I was transferring stuff over but It has been unplugged most of the day and it has only dropped maybe 30%. Ill know better tomorrow.

I've never seen a browser (pc or mobile) load a page as fast as this thing too.

The one thing Im having a bit of a learning time with is how you can access bbm or txt via their respective apps OR via the hub. If Im in bbm via the app, sometimes I forget I didnt get there from the hub and you cant swipe over to the hub the same way. It isn't a problem, but those with the device will understand what I mean. Will just take some time to get the habit right.

There was some concern with Gmail push syncing not being supported. But I have done some tests and my emails configured via IMAP on gmail are coming within 30 seconds of being sent, so there doesnt seem to be an issue.

Tips and Tricks :

Quote:

Keyboard
Swipe up with 2 fingers to bring up the keyboard and the opposite to get rid of it
tap and hold a letter key for caps
tap and hod some punctuation keys for alternate characters (eg ? and ¿)
tap and hold the spacebar to hide the keyboard
tap and hold the comma for keyboard/language settings
double-tap the spacebar for a period
swipe down to cycle between the three keyboards (alpha, numbers & punctuation, more punctuation)
swipe left anywhere on the keyboard to backspace a word
You can voice type/dictate by using dot key, it's very precise

Contacts
If you add a contact to Favorites it'll appear at the top of your contacts
If you have duplicate or same contacts synced by different accounts, you can multiselect them and link > it'll merge them and keep everything on one place
Fast scrolling can be done by scrolling through letters on the left

Phone
You can add a contact to speed dial and it'll appear at the top of screen
During call you can press and hold mute button to hold the call
Taking notes during call will automatically save them in Remember app

Misc
When the device is booting up tap the screen to change the BB Logo to the % complete
Press the volume up and down keys together to take a screenshot.

anyone try blackberry link yet? it took an awful lot of time to install properly....

09k20 02-06-2013 12:49 PM

Can anyone confirm that the new z10 has UMA.

I live in "a Rogers dead zone" area and my trusted 9790 has it.

TIA

The Z10 does not have UMA, currently.

It's been mentioned, the Z10 is UMA capable, but issues were encountered during carrier testing and it is temporarily unavailable, which seems to be a very reasonable explanation. It's unlikely Blackberry would remove UMA capability with the introduction of the Z10, Q10 and BB10 given the value users have given the feature in prior generations; especially given Blackberry's strength in developing markets where it is an even more useful feature. The Canada, UK releases seem to be glitch testing grounds leading up to the American release, and a delay would be consistent with that fact too.

Good news

Quote:

Not only did BlackBerry sell its highest volume of Canadian BlackBerry smartphones in its history yesterday, but Rogers has come out to report the same thing. Yesterday was its most successful BlackBerry launch ever, and certainly its most well-publicized phone launch in some time. Rogers and then-RIM-now-BlackBerry have a long relationship, emerging in the late 90′s with the company’s first communicator devices. It was also the biggest proponent of the company’s consumer line, which peaked with the Bold and Torch series between 2008 and 2011. We received an email with the specifics: - Sold more BlackBerry smartphones on February 5th 2013 than any other day in Rogers history (Rogers was the first carrier to launch BlackBerry services in 1999). - Rogers BlackBerry experts activated thousands of BlackBerry Z10 smartphones yesterday, and provided customers with in depth training and support. - Some stores have temporarily sold out of the BlackBerry Z10 and additional inventory has been shipped to Rogers retail locations across Canada.

i had a hell of a time getting link installed. it wouldn't install properly off the phone, so i downloaded it from blackberry.com and it took 2 tries to get right. it kept hanging.

then when i got it finally installed, it took a couple tries before i could transfer my old phone over, and then a couple more tries before i could put new things like pics on the phone. seems to be working well now tho

CT10 02-06-2013 04:34 PM

I tried looking for a successfully converted instagram .apk -> .bar on the web but couldn't find any. As far as I know instagram is one of the only apps that can't be converted properly. I would love it if you provided yours =]

rk604 02-06-2013 06:30 PM

it runs but it hangs...no point...only thing functional 100% is google maps under android
