it looeked very veyr good.

van_city23 01-30-2013 09:33 AM

seems over priced at 600 outright doesn't it?

Mikli 01-30-2013 10:09 AM

$600 is good or $199 with a contract. Wondering if you could order unlocked ones directly

knight604 01-30-2013 10:11 AM

There is a link to preorder on the blackberry.com i believe.

But it isnt working right now..

van_city23 01-30-2013 10:25 AM

just saw most are selling it for 150 on 3 year contract and koodo is selling it for 550 outright. I'm also curious about the unlock..

Jegz 01-30-2013 10:32 AM

Wow looks so sick.. im stuck with a 9900 :okay:. What is RIMM doing about apps? Huge factor for me.

Razor Ramon HG 01-30-2013 10:36 AM

I'm just curious why exactly some of you guys are going to be grabbing the Z10. Anyone care to explain?

Seeing as the new Blackberries offer absolutely nothing new in terms of functionality compared to its current competitors, I'm really curious. I do understand that it is a big step for current Blackberry owners and lovers though, but is brand loyalty that strong enough when the competition IMO clearly offers better alternatives in terms of hardware (I read the camera in the Z10 is amazing though) and ecosystem?

knight604 01-30-2013 10:51 AM

That's the same thing as say why do people upgrade from ip4 to ip4s then to ip5? There is nothing new except some hardware upgrades , software is all the same. Apple is already in their prime, they won't have anything innovative to bring to the table.

QNX/BB10 is a huge leap from the last outdated OS , built from the ground up offering new and exciting features.

Why does blackberry need to have crazy specs like S3/Note 2/Padfone 2/Nexus 4?

So it can drain the battery more?

No, it does not need to have the best hardware because the software is optimized to flow seamlessly with the hardware even if it isnt the top of the line.

Hardware is not everything.

I stick with blackberry because i love the keyboard, bbm and the simplicity of the phone. I don't care about apps they are a plus but it isnt necessary for me. I can see why other people would care for apps like skype , instagram , etc. But those applications are coming/already here for BB10.

Blackberry has potential and there is nothing wrong with supporting a Canadian company that is trying to get back on its feet and i think they are doing a great job and it will bounce back. Learning from their mistakes and improving as they go along with their German CEO , GERMANS NEVER FAIL.

You should read some of the reviews because there's definitely more than nothing.

Razor Ramon HG 01-30-2013 11:02 AM

Thanks for your perspective knight604.

Sorry, I should've restated that there's nothing majorly new.

I'm just surprised that there is still somewhat of a strong support for Blackberries here on RS.

knight604 01-30-2013 11:06 AM

It is always nice to have a options for people to choose thats where all the brands come in trying to win everyone's hearts.

RRxtar 01-30-2013 11:10 AM

the camera is pretty lackluster compared to the competition.

there are a few areas where the bb10 actually blows the competition out of the water simply because the competition hasn't evolved to offer things like the hub, flow, and gesture integration. as i posted last nite, even the blackberry hating iphone loving tech sites are praising the new bb.

a phone doesnt have to jump off the spec sheet to be better or a good alternative. sometimes being a little better with a few small ingenuity things makes a phone better.

Personally waiting for the Q10 because of the physical keyboard.

I think the Z10 is better than the current competitors in some ways.
-Better resolution than the iphone 5
-Camera has time shift mode which i haven't seen on other phones.
-Best touch screen for typing and only gets better and more predictive as it learns how you usually type. Also if you know and type in diffrent languages like french it'll automatically show predictive words in french which you can easily use just by flicking up. (I have already tested it)
-work/balance mode - good for companies that offer you work phones. 2 seperate screens that seperates work files from personal.
-peek mode is good feature, can view a txt msg or missed call while not interupting a video or w/e your doing.
-bbm is a plus, or can just use whatsapp like all the other phones bbm has its own version of iphone's facetime, cept it goes one step further and you can show them your screen on the phone.

Razor Ramon HG 01-30-2013 11:26 AM

Hmm.. weird. I remember reading an article where it said the camera was amazing in low-light.

BlackBerry Q10 launching "this Spring" in Canada | MobileSyrup.com

Quote:

BlackBerry Z10 took all the limelight today, but the Q10 QWERTY device is also turning some heads. Both devices run their new BlackBerry 10 OS and will soon land on Canadians soil. The Z10 hits stores on February 5th at various price points. As for the Q10, this new ‘iconic’ QWERTY launch date is a mystery. BlackBerry only stated to us that it’ll be available sometime “this Spring.” Rumours circling on the web have the Q10 coming mid-March, which aligns to previous comments by Throrsten Heins, BlackBerry’s CEO. Finally, no indication at all about pricing.

As for specs, the Q10 has a full QWERTY keyboard, 2.1-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 710 x 710, 1.5Ghz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage and an 8MP camera. In addition, the Q10 has similar styling to the Bold 9900 with a “glass fibre back.”
March isnt too bad :D!!

RRxtar 01-30-2013 11:31 AM

i guess the thing to remember is this is a first version (not counting the 2 playbook OS's) on a first generation phone. theres going to be room for a ton of improvements and there have been promises of software updates, big fixes, and refinements coming quite quickly.

even if it isnt better, at worst, it is being considered similar to the current competition from android and apple. that alone makes them a viable alternative. not too bad for a 1st go. especially considering they arent trying to beat android or apple, they are openly aiming for #3.

DanHibiki 01-30-2013 12:07 PM

I'm sure they will quickly grab more market share than windows

I'm a BB user and the platform has its drawbacks.

Blackberries are still the best phone for people to get stuff done. Blackberry sucks for play. The Z10 is the first legitimate attempt to bridge the two worlds together. It may turn out to be an epic fail, but it's worth a shot.

1 feature that stood out for me was bb balance

i always hated having my work mails and profiles clutted with my personal agenda

that was defn a nice touch for me

MikeyStyle 01-30-2013 01:47 PM

currently using the 9900

the z10 definitely looks nicer than the q10.. but i love the keyboard too much to give it up, lol

I'm in the market for a new phone. I'm not longer married to Apple - my iPhone 4s has had a lot of problems and iOS is a very dated platform. I've played with the iPhone 5 and there is nothing about it that appeals to me and I can't imagine why anyone would pay money to upgrade from their 4/4s to the 5.

I am currently using a Nexus Galaxy. It's my first Android and first non-iPhone phone in 4 or so years. I like Android but I'm not married to it. If you're a geek, I'm sure it's a dream device, but as someone who only uses their phone for calling/texting/emails/Facebook/Instgram, there's a whole lot of overkill with the device.

To me, the Z10 represents what I hope is the best of both worlds - ease of use paired with a strong OS.

JesseBlue 01-30-2013 05:55 PM

how do see it as a strong os? i don't think you can measure it (yet)...

i have a feeling these are marketing terms that people just take in...

people who say its not about the apps...i think you're just kidding yourself....you're getting a smart phone because of the apps else you can stay simple and get a flip phone that has a monochrome screen but colorful leds..

6793026 01-30-2013 06:12 PM

the keyboard is huge for me so yeha i've been using a bb for a long ass time.

can someone tell me the top 10 apps you can't live with? I mean we talk about 750000 apps for apple (maybe more maybe less; forgot what the real numbers were on Global tonight), but can someone HONESTLY tell me what are the top 10 apps they can't live without and maybe 10 more that's decent.

Whatsapp is probably the only app i did download, maybe Shazam that I use once a month at max?
