Can these tablet run java apps on sites?

StylinRed 07-01-2012 05:11 AM

supposedly this infringes on Nokia patents and may also be infringing on Microsoft patents (licensing agreements aren't clear if the nexus 7 is included) and of course Apple

so get them while you can i guess?

^Which is the same thing for every android device out there. I'm not too worried. Then again I'm not really in the market for one.

Psykopathik 07-03-2012 01:35 PM

not OTG external storage OR MTL output. that finalizes it for me. pass. :(

Canadians always get ripped off. I paid 254 for 8gig.
If i could cross the boarder id cancel my order and get one shipped to blaine.

ForbiddenX 07-04-2012 12:00 PM

Any idea how to cancel the order? I preordered the 16GB one from the Canadian google but would prefer to ship it to Point Roberts.

joquio 07-04-2012 12:13 PM

You ordering it from B&H?
Because J&R deal is expired I believe.

Storage is seriously lacking on this thing. i have a Transformer Prime with 48GB total and it's always full. 720p videos are huge.

Cloud storage is not a solution when I'm out tethering using 3G and pulling horrendous down speeds in Vancouver. I have an agonizing time just trying to browse simple websites. 3G data doesn't even work at all in Metrotown.

oh FYI: after system files, the 8GB Nexus 7 will only have 5.92GB of free space.

It really should have an external sd card option.. But for 200 cant really complain. For me, the 5.9GB left over is more than enough. Wont be using it for video. I have everything I need on my galaxy nexus, and rarely use more than 2GB.

they cant put everything into this thing for cheap... you are getting a QUAD CORE... is your transformer faster then this beast? It has USB ports you cant say storage is out of the question... thumb drives are cheap...

you guys will be surprised how much 16GB actually is if you actually delete shit when you're done with them. Yes, it'd be nice if it had more storage, but at a entry level price point, you can't have it all.

Unless you're going weeks without access to a computer (i.e. vacation where there aren't computers), then 16GB should be enough for most situations. If you have access to a computer, bring a USB HDD with you so you can load new content onto it after you're done.

I agree, it's not as convenient as having virtually unlimited storage, but IMO, not a deal breaker. There are ways around it, if you're willing to put in a little extra effort.

But yes...8GB will be tough to manage if you plan to watch movies on it. If you want to watch movies, then you'll have to step up to the 16GB.

Psykopathik 07-06-2012 08:24 AM

now available at Staples for pre order. no more shipping charge, but probably no $25 Google Play credit.

Tim Budong 07-06-2012 11:22 AM

ships on the 23rd.. Google says the 7 will ship on the 19th
I hope its the 19th
I CANNOT WAIT

i missed out one on craigslist from IO for 350...
I would have paid that much for the White One...
zomg

Impromptu Q&A Session With Android Engineer Dan Morrill Brings To Light Reasons Behind Galaxy Nexus' Lack Of USB Mass Storage

Hehe 07-08-2012 07:57 AM

I think 16GB is more than enough.. heck, even the 8GB is plenty IMO if done correctly.

Google is going after cloud. You don't load anything heavy like your movies, pics and music. They are all streamed to your device through Google storages.

And from the look of it, I'm not surprised if future apps only contain the absolute framework that need to be stored locally (maybe a few hundred KB) while all the rest of data is streamed to you as well.

Definitely a less-is-more approach.

This would be fine. Provided data was cheap, stable, and fast. Not to mention if you tether you'd also be draining your phone. 16gb is definitely manageable as I'm fine with it on my Nexus. Another reason is Google basically wants you to use/pay for their services ie movies. I'm ok with that since they do need to make some $$ back for this device.

Where would I be able to order an 8gb online right now other than the play store? In the states preferably.
