Anyone know how we can watch the movie Hitting the Apex??

radioman 09-03-2015 09:12 PM

Seriously 2 weeks I've owned the bike....

Driver comes into my lane from the bus lane and I tried to avoid him and put the bike down. Didn't make contact with his car but he did stop and admitted fault.

Inaii 09-03-2015 09:16 PM

Glad you're okay Radio!

Jas29 09-03-2015 10:20 PM

U okay any injuries??

radioman 09-03-2015 10:46 PM

My knees hurt and headache. Gonna get checked out tomorrow.

Hands are good thanks to the gloves. I'll live.

DKaz 09-04-2015 07:07 AM

That sucks. :( Hope all checks out for you at the doctors. At least the driver stopped.

I see Busters is towing your bike, sucks even more. :( I hate those @$$holes.

radioman 09-04-2015 03:23 PM

what a huge headache today was calling so many different numbers.

Beacon is going to take a look at it and then will ask me where to take it to get repaired.

I honestly have no idea where I should get it repaired.

Anyone have any recommendations? Should I take it to a yamaha dealer etc?

The best part is the driver called ICBC but didn't admit fault. The lady from ICBC was really nice and said the way the conversation went with him was more of a "I'm not admitting I did it but not admitting I didn't do it" and she said we all know what he really means.

?NR 09-04-2015 03:37 PM

that's a royal headache to deal with, and I don't envy you at all. which bike shop are you closest to? probably Imperial? they handle insurance claims.

radioman 09-04-2015 03:40 PM

ah yes Imperial. I'm a few blocks from them.

racerman88 09-04-2015 04:17 PM

I hope you have witnesses or recorded him admitting fault?
I wouldn't be surprised if he lies.
I hope you are doing ok.
If ICBC is repairing damage at drivers expense, take your bike to a dealer to get all new parts.

radioman 09-04-2015 04:43 PM

I have a witness who heard him admit fault at the scene.

He was paramedic who was a block from the crash and they stopped to see if I was ok.

The driver got out of the car and kept saying sorry to me and I gave him the "you didn't even shoulder check etc" and he said ya I'm sorry I didn't mean to etc

320icar 09-04-2015 05:00 PM

Did he say that? Or did he say "sorry, it was my fault" lol. Big difference.

Fuck man. Sorry to hear. Glad you're ok though. Does icbc replace the helmet too

radioman 09-04-2015 05:31 PM

Beacon covers my gear up to $1000. $250 deposit that will be covered if the other person is found at fault.

racerman88 09-05-2015 10:07 AM

With a witness like that, icbc should put the cager at fault. Get everything replaced like new again.

qhey 09-05-2015 10:23 AM

Hey man glad you are OK!
How fast were you going when you went down?

radioman 09-05-2015 10:42 AM

I couldn't tell you the exact speed but it would be around 40-50.

I keep beating myself up about this and kept thinking about it at night. I considered him a threat a few blocks away and told myself to be cautious. I shouldn't have rode past him when he was in the bus lane behind a bus. I even moved over to p1 to prepare myself but he really changed lanes quickly at the "perfect" time.

I'll try and learn from this and I'm just glad I want going faster or this happened in a hwy etc

DKaz 09-05-2015 11:15 AM

That's a good attitude to have. We can get mad all we want at these terrible drivers but at the end of the day, we can try to control our own fate and keep ourselves safe by riding defensively and avoiding situations that can get us into accidents, even if those accidents are not our fault.

Don't dwell on it though. Focus on getting better, your bike will get fixed up, and you'll be back on the road in no time.

Sunfighter 09-05-2015 08:21 PM

Radioman - I'm super happy that you are okay man! It's terrific that you can reflect back on this and regardless of the dangerous action of the driver it sounds like you were already very attentive to your surroundings. Could have been much worse if you weren't.

Great analysis.

to me it looks like an open handed wave palm facing the rear, he doesn't really turn towards the other rider when doing it. and then when he feels contact with the bar his head snaps around, and does a double take when the other rider bails.

i personally believe his version more than this being a malicious act.

you can see him go way off line, and the other rider follows him over.

Risk assessment, tolerance and risk management applies to a lot of things in life.

Unfortunate story from the Kelowna area. I love Westside Road and would encourage everyone to drive or ride it at least once, but it's sadly claimed a life. R.I.P. rider.

Awesome helmet!! It's like an updated version of super daves helmet lol.

So how are you doing? Still able to work at all with a broken arm? How about settlement with icbc. Winter is coming, good time to snag a sick deal on a bike
