Tends to happen when you get old and/or seriously injured.

Doesn't dismiss the fact that we drafted solid NHL players who had long, mostly successful careers with those picks.

Rodin has no NHL career yet and Gaunce barely has an NHL career with no certainty he'll be anymore successful than Schroeder at this point.

Umberger has almost 800 career games and Raymond is over 500.

My bad, I was thinking of players playing today. lol

Yes they both had good careers but in a way, still we're unable to consistently provide nhl players through the first two rounders.

Look at the Capitals, they got raped on the Forsberg trade yet they still drafted enough players to fill in their depth.

Drafting is a crap shoot

Yea canucks can't scout for shit, but props for finding guys like Grabner and Raymond.

Outside of Kesler and Schneider. There really isn't much since the 03 draft. Grabner and Raymond are your two best draftees... Guys we developed. Umberger was a shit situation to begin with and the canucks stuck with the right guy in kesler

Nabatron 11-10-2016 09:43 AM

makes sense for Jake to go down he will play lots of minutes for 2 games then gets recalled and gets no time typical canucks logic!

Hansen out 4 to 6 wks with fractured ribs

highfive 11-10-2016 10:18 AM

Fractured ribs then went after Kadri for the Daniel hit. Props for the dane.

Not questioning his character at all, but I doubt Hansen knew he had fractured ribs at the time he went after Kadri.

After his fight, sitting in the box, when the adrenaline has run its course, I'm sure he probably started feeling the effects of the Reilly hit.

Grabner and Raymond were first and round guys, players with the greater chance of making it to the NHL.
That being said, we were always banging our heads against the wall with Raymond. On any other team, he may not have played as many games as he did. Flip with Grabner. He found some success playing with the Islanders and Rangers but couldn't show or wasn't given the chance in Vancouver.

Drafting isn't just about being lucky or a crap shoot. It also has to do with the team and how stacked they are in certain positions.

Look at CoHo for example. At the time, he was number 3 behind Kesler and Hank. But had he stuck with it, he could have been #2 in Vancouver when Kes wanted out.

Going back to the Nucks now. Is JV a bust? It sure looks that way, but can you put all the blame on him?
WD is on the hot seat and his job is to win games, including the last 3 games of last season. Unless TL tells him he won't be fired and he is guaranteed that, he will continue to play the twins 20+ minutes and JV will continue to ride the pine.

Did anyone watch Brad Pitt in Moneyball? BAsically if JB and TL want WD to play JV, then they have to send 6 or 7 guys down to Utica and only dress 16 skaters. And even then, WD may ask Markstrom to play as a forward.

m3thods 11-10-2016 02:49 PM

Calling JV a potential bust at age 20 would be a bold move. While I don't expect him to win any Art Ross trophies, if he ends up like Wayne Simmonds popping in 20+ and racking up the PIMs and hits with a tough playing style I wouldn't call him a bust.

We hear it constantly that power forwards need much more time to figure things out in the NHL. To "get it" so to speak.

Fans just need to relax (not talking to you directly). The team may have more to say in terms of his development, but he's far from being a bust for now.

Down 2-0 after 1, back to reality! :)

Simmonds is probably the best power forward right now. Lucic is soft playing it safe after signing a huge contract

this team has no succession plan after the sedans are done...if you think the team is shit not just wait till those 2 are gone it will be even worse.

- Get a new owner that doesn't meddle in shit he has no idea of
- Get a new GM that doesn't get fleeced in every trade he does
- Get a new President that just doesn't stand around and give lip service
- Get a new team

Otherwise:

At the end, they (Gillis and co) had a plan in place for a full-on rebuild where they were even going to use the word “rebuild,” but that was not something which was going to be allowed to happen in Vancouver.
I'm so curious what this plan entailed, and when it was slated to 'start'. Looking back, you could kind of tell when aquaman stepped in and told MG "this is the way its going to happen" and weird stuff started happening

Any thoughts on WD's potential replacement?

Green seems to be a natural choice, at least as an interim.

Otherwise, one of the assistant coaches.

I'm a bit more optimistic about this team for the future than you are. After the twins are gone we could potentially have Nolan Patrick/Vilardi centering our top line with hopefully Boeser and Eriksson on his wing. Jake and Bo on the second line. Juolevi anchoring our blue line along with Tanev, Hutton, Tryamkin and co. Demko and Markstrom in goal. With the twins, Miller and Burrows off the books in a few years, that's 24.5 million they can spend on other players. Nothing is guaranteed but I don't think that team can be anywhere near as bad as it is now.

highfive 11-11-2016 01:23 AM

John Tavares ufa 2018

Let's hope Toronto spends shit load of money and doesn't have the cap space to sign him lol
