Linden didn't sound too happy with the organization in his interview with murf.

Gumby 02-10-2020 11:40 PM

From https://theprovince.com/sports/hocke...ial-night/amp:

Linden is asked if his participation should be viewed as a sign his relationship with the current Canucks regime is mending.

“I’m excited to be there for Danny and Hank,” he says over the phone. “That’s all I want to say. I knew the day I left I was going to be at their ceremony. I haven’t thought otherwise for one second.”

Too bad we couldn't get Bure and the Sedins both in their prime.

I think Linden and all the canucks players respect each other. It would make sense for them to support. However its the organisation and management they are not happy about.

Jmac 02-11-2020 12:44 PM

Linden had everything to lose and nothing to gain from taking the President job which many people viewed as a publicity stunt.

I will say that, in my personal experience dealing with the Canucks (specifically Canucks Fantasy Hockey), dealing with Linden was much easier and actually got somewhere compared to dealing with Rogers or Canucks Sports & Entertainment, both of whom kept brushing me off and telling me to contact the other party.

He obviously got burned, which isn’t surprising, but still disappointing.

On a related note Stan Smyl had some nice things to say about Linden (pulled from The Athletic):

“There’s one thing I have to say,” Smyl said, pausing briefly.

Smyl tends not to do too many interviews, unless they’re about specific historical subjects. He clearly had something he’d been thinking about for a while. Something he wanted to make sure he said publicly.

“Trevor has put a stamp on this team, also,” Smyl said. “Not just as a player, but on the business side of it. As an organization, some of the success that we’re having now, has to go to Trevor’s leadership from up above. It’s very difficult, this business that we’re in, but Trevor was 100 percent on board, wanted to know everything, learned it quickly and made changes.

“The changes were the right changes, we’re going in the right direction and Trevor has his stamp on that.”

I might not know Smyl well, but I know that this comment — in praise of Linden, and his contributions to the club’s season — served to benefit him not one iota. In fact, it was a risky comment.

But it’s something he felt he had to say. Something he believes.

God Canucks Twitter is ducking trigggerrredddddd by talking about fake jerseys lol..

I made a passing remark about how buying Chinese knockoffs that aren’t even the right colour isn’t really supporting the team and next thing you know my mentions blowing up people going offffff lol

I agree 100%: nothing to gain for Linden. I think he had good intentions taking on that role, but the organization used his hiring as a popularity stunt. The team was doing pretty bad at the time.

You're absolutely right. People who cheap out and buy fake jerseys have no valid argument to make. Supporting the team means buying official gear.

6thGear. 02-12-2020 06:13 AM

Back when fake jerseys were the rage my buddy bought one and was poking fun at me for not having the new style. I wore my stick/rink jersey from when I bought it early 2000 which was already 10 years old. I told him at least mine wasn't fake. 20 years later I finally pulled the trigger and bought a new authentic Horvat jersey from the Canucks store

MG1 02-12-2020 06:39 AM

Why the hell would anyone buy anything that's fake? That's a total waste of money. If you can't afford a genuine anything, don't get it.

The only thing fake I would consider is a "beyond meat" burger. Even then, I can't do it. I want the real thing.............. that's why I drink Coca Cola, hee hee.
