According to reports the NHL lottery draft will include the 8 teams that dont make it past the play in round.. so Canucks could still end up with their pick this year

Except the Canucks were reportedly in on him as per reports from the time:

I really hope we give up this year’s pick. The lottery will be pre-lockout conditions (can only move up 4 spots), so likely won’t be a top 10 pick if we keep it.

Training camp not before July 1st ??!!

If this playoffs go for 2 months, then it will be just in time for training camp for 2020-21 season. Not sure how I feel about watching hockey in July and August. Let's just say whoever wins 2019/20 year will have an * beside it.

bobbinka 05-26-2020 01:56 PM

They should let Huges and Makar duke it out in the 1st round for the Caldar

Van is a no go for 3 reasons.
1) 14 day quarantine still in effect... same for hocky team family members.. no exceptions.
2) US border and Canada issues (but i don't know how htat is diff for edmonton & toronto.
there was one more which was shown on Global today but couldn't catch it in time.

the border is not an issue as hockey players have work permits on both side so they are not classified as "non-essential travel". 14 day quarantine isn't much of a problem if training camps aren't going to be starting for like 50+ days

bobbinka 05-26-2020 07:42 PM

Pettersson finishes the season with more points than Tavares, Laine, Toews, and only one point behind Ovechkin.

Hughes and Horvat finish with more points than Hall and Seguin

It's probably going to be Vegas and Minneapolis.

highfive 05-26-2020 08:28 PM

Vegas playoffs in the summer? Good boys trip to take if social distancing isn’t an issue. Lol

Expresso 05-27-2020 02:33 PM

^Isn't there going to be no spectators anyway.

Not so according to Dan Murphy.

Vancouver unlikely hub city for NHL due to COVID-19 health orders: insider

“[Players] are not deemed essential services like they have been in the States. The bottom line is this, unless [health officials] think it’s safe, it’s not going to happen. If it’s safe, then yes, they can start to ease restrictions and say this is going to happen,” Murphy says.

Vegas and Columbus according to him. Would be a shame not to have them play in Vancouver, but you can't negate all the hard work that was achieved in BC just for the players...

dbaz 05-27-2020 07:50 PM

Vegas is basically a guaranteed location as they are will to offer hotels to familys and lock down parts of the strip for NHL only.

As thats the west coast, they will probably do something stupid like try to have the other hub in the east(where the virus is significantly worse)

Now that you mention it, the stats for the regular season is over...

So how do these "best of 5 series" stats work? Are they going to be recorded in a separate category? Most likely a one-off thing in NHL history?
These aren't regular season or playoff games.

Columbus is apparently the front-runner out East and their arena is in the heart of Franklin County.

417 cases per 100k population is obviously a lot higher than pretty much anywhere in Canada, but they peaked at the end of April and their daily new cases are in the single digits.

John Gibson:

Elias Pettersson

This guy was born to score goals.

I think, at least now, the playbook is out there on him. Everyone knows about his spot and his incredible shot. Everyone knows that he plays a lot bigger than he looks, too. He’s just one of those players that feeds off the fact that you know how to play against him.

It’s one of those he knows that you know that he knows that you know situations — you know?

But I think he’s got a little secret in his shot that keeps goalies guessing when he sits right on the edge of the circle on the power play.

Here’s a goal he scored against me earlier this year.

Sometimes you’ll see him miss wide on these when he’s really trying to pick the near post. Or sometimes you’ll see him miss high when he’s trying to do what he did here. He knows that the space right to the side of my mask, just above my collarbone, is really hard to defend. If he goes further over with the shot, it’s actually easier to get my left elbow higher and cover more space. But that little gap beside my head, I can’t get my arm into that space.

Try it right now. Raise your elbow up and see how there’s this little triangle between the top of your head, your elbow and the base of your neck.

He’s shooting for that.

And you know what? When he hits it, all you can do is tip your cap and move on. There’s no stopping it. He’s a pretty special player. Lots of guys have come into the league and made a spot like that their own. My mind goes to Ovi or Stamkos, and they’ve created their own little tricks to make sure a team can’t just cheat and mark them. Pettersson does the same thing.

From the way he can cycle the puck down low with his strength, to his huge shot, he’s got a lot of tools.

He’s fun to watch because he loves to challenge guys. It’s your best against his best.

It’s just that, usually his best is better.

Another guy whose highlights I’m always checking out is Elias Pettersson in Vancouver. He’s super unique because of his strength on the puck, which will absolutely catch you off guard because he doesn’t look that big. It’s a huge part of his game, and when I’m watching him I’m not really looking at the puck, but more at how he positions himself in the corners and when trying to beat a guy. I think a lot of guys could learn quite a bit from a Pettersson highlight reel.

I doubt the NHL will pick Minneapolis now with the huge riots happening in that city because of anger of the police killing of yet another African American.

RIP George Floyd.

So min 2 weeks camp, maybe a few exhibition games, serious play starts in August?

Uhg..

eclipseman 05-28-2020 03:47 PM

Bettman did say that potentially 20-21 could start in December...

Obsideon 05-29-2020 04:23 PM

Random thought, might as well start the season in January and call it the "2021 season" and from henceforth no need to split years. 21/22 22/23 etc
