Getting actual peices of chicken etc. Is trash. A brand new location opened up by my parents I’ve had a few times and then I tried the brand new spot on the Burnaby/NW border and I dunno what they are doing but the chicken is seemingly under-fried, not crispy as all, the tenders are floppy etc. Sides are just slop. And these same issues were present at both brand new locations

The Richmond location is bomb, I legit hated Popeyes before but I been to the Richmond one like 4 or 5 times now despite feeling guilty for betraying LA Chicken.

Just got my second shot half an hour ago… hungry for fried chicken now :)

Hondaracer 07-21-2021 04:07 PM

Brownies is pretty good, Mary Browns is kinda meh but I’d put it ahead of Popeyes for now

I think you’re probably right on the locations, because both these brand new ones I went to seem to be following the exact same model in terms of frying time, oil etc.

Obsideon 07-21-2021 06:55 PM

I like this derailing, anyway. Yes Popeye's sandwiches are solid, actual chicken and especially the sides suck.
LA's all the way. But I need to stop hyping it up last last Sunday the line was way too long for my liking.

JDMDreams 07-21-2021 07:40 PM

I had Popeyes in both Langley and surrey before they became hot spots, I recall they were both dry, and over fried. The pop corn shrimp were tiny bits and way too salty. Chicken world in cedar hills was good if you want to test out the effectiveness of your vaccine.:lawl:

Don't worry, the line's going to be stupid long no matter what. Place is already legendary status.
Every time we order from there (and its not often anymore because of the lines), we discuss how and why the guy doesn't hire more staff so they can get more throughput. I swear to god they can make 1.5x or 2x the amount of chicken and sell it 100%. Just add a fry-cook in the back and crank up the numbers!! But no. Guy is like Mr.Crabs, doesn't trust the recipe to the crabbypattys to anyone I guess.

Glad I was able to derail this thread a bit away from the harsh COVID reality.

Anyway, having grown up in Richmond all my life I'd say LA chicken is mediocre at best and way overhyped. Give me Church's spicy any day.

And yes Popeye's chicken sandwich is legit.

Il get us back on track

So about that skidz guy

320icar 07-21-2021 11:28 PM

I never grew up having much fried chicken, but I remember when that KFC “twister” wrap came out. Chrispy strips and Caesar salad in a wrap. Fuck I haven’t had that for at least 10 years

SkinnyPupp 07-22-2021 12:33 AM

Growing up, my best friend's parents had a Brownie's franchise, so we grew up on that shit. Cold fried chicken is so damn good man, at least I thought so back then

whitev70r 07-22-2021 07:23 AM

What do you all think about these new Korean Fried Chicken popping up everywhere? One good thing, you have the boneless option for convenient eating on the go.

CivicBlues 07-22-2021 07:53 AM

Tried C&T Fried Chicken on Burrard last week. Their spicy chicken sandwich is legit.

TOS'd 07-22-2021 07:56 AM

Mask mandate might be coming back in the US it seems.

Also of the chain restaurants, Church's Spicy Chicken (non-sandwich) > the rest.

JDMDreams 07-22-2021 08:10 AM

^^good, I think it's a good thing they are keeping the borders closed cuz their cases are up and so many anti vaxers.

Korean fried chicken is good, but you have to eat it in the restaurant as they are sauced so it loses its crunch fast.

Hondaracer 07-22-2021 08:13 AM

I’m all about that yum yum sauce or however you spell it lol

MG1 07-22-2021 09:17 AM

I’ve learned a few things in life and one that’s usually, okay always, true is never discuss politics and religion. On RS, it’s never discuss fried chicken. Gulolol.

Back on topic. I think dink, I mean donk, has multiple RS accounts. Guesses as to which ones?

Can’t be happysilp, he’s not that much of an asshole……..

Just kidding. donk is a long time member and needs our respect.

god bless

got my 2nd shot... nurse was like you can check off all your bucket list shit you wanted to do.

and I'm thinking back and its 1.5 years since I got the news notification of wuhan getting locked down

CivicBlues 07-22-2021 12:15 PM

^still gotta wait at least 2 weeks bitchazzzz!

Qmx323 07-22-2021 12:38 PM

2nd shot updated, didn't have a reaction to the first so expecting a Mack truck backing up over me in the next few days.

As for the chicken topic... Try buying a fried chicken cutlet from those Taiwanese chicken shops, and make your own sandwich.

PuYang 07-22-2021 01:32 PM

I got my second shot 7 days ago (Thursday). I got the shot in the morning and suffered from a slight fever at night. Not the most severe fever ever, but still enough to make me ask for a sick day the next morning.

Was pretty much recovered by Saturday, with only a slight light-headedness.

I was really excited to start wearing my mask less... I haven't kept up with the news recently, hoping things get better across the globe. Last thing I want is to have to continue wearing my mask everywhere :(

As for fried chicken, I'm not picky. All fried chicken is good :P But my go to is Daeji's sweet and spicy fried chicken. Usually order it boneless (very un-asian of me) for convenience.

ITS MY 3RD SHOT :troll:

Obsideon 07-22-2021 01:49 PM

My go-to right now for Spicy Chicken sandwich is this little Korean place called Chimec on Denman. The Spiciest option actually kicked my butt, and this is coming from a guy that felt the Ghost Pepper McChicken was weaksauce.
The thigh burger :megusta:
https://d1ralsognjng37.cloudfront.ne...915772ca7.jpeg
3 huge ass patties the size of those Taiwanese cutlets stacked inside, I had to deconstruct it and eat it like a family meal.

Sorry, back on topic.
Exactly 1 week after my second shot now. Feeling great. The soreness lasted about 3 days. Symptoms pretty much the same as the 1st shot. I'm so glad it wasn't as bad as I've heard.

inv4zn 07-22-2021 02:02 PM

Genuine question, because with the delta variant there's more and more "so and so vaccine is xx% effective!"

Does that literally mean that you have a 100-xx% chance of getting infected (ie. xx number out of 100 are immune) or is there a different metric at play?

I only ask because, well, percentages and statistics are super easy to manipulate.

westopher 07-22-2021 02:38 PM

Well, they offer that much protection in a circumstance where there would be a 100% chance of being infected. Like kissing, sharing a popsicle with an infected person, etc.
If you have 60% protection, you could share 3 popsicles with an infected person before you were likely to get infected.
If there is low frequency of the virus in public, you already have a very low percentage of likelihood of being infected. If 1/10000 people in BC is infected, you already have a 0.01% chance of coming across someone that has it. Then you have to interact with that person in a way that causes infection.
I can’t give you exact numbers of how likely that is to happen without spending hours on formulas, as the only math I can hash out quickly is food cost lol.
But hopefully that clarifies it a bit.
