112 new cases in today's update :P

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — B.C.’s COVID-19 fight Friday took a step backwards Friday, with a large jump in new cases.

There were 112 new cases Friday, nearly three times the number recorded Monday. There were four new deaths for a total of 1,767 since the pandemic began.

Of the active cases, 46 people are in the hospital, of whom 17 are in the ICU. The number of patients hospitalized with the virus has remained relatively stable all week.

B.C’s Interior region recorded the majority of the new cases. With 59 cases reported on Friday, the total number in that region now stands at 256.

The province’s previous hot spot, the Fraser Health region, had 30 new cases, bringing its total of active cases now at 199.

Vancouver Coastal Health reported 15 new cases, five in Island Health, three in Northern Health.

There are two active outbreaks in B.C.’s care centres: Laurel Place at Surrey Memorial Hospital, and Holyrood Manor long-term care centre.

Just over 80 per cent of eligible British Columbians age 12 and up have one dose of vaccine, and more than 58 per cent are fully vaccinated.

This is from a separate article: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...july-1.6114731

But health officials and modelling experts maintain the province is on track to fully reopen in September, saying the majority of those cases are among unvaccinated people, and that the increase was predicted as the province loosens restrictions on movement and social gatherings.

Health Minister Adrian Dix said on Friday that 78 per cent of new cases recorded between June 15 and July 15 were among unvaccinated people. Eighteen per cent were among people who had received one dose, while four per cent were among people who had been fully vaccinated.
Also a large number is coming from Interior Health, where vaccination efforts are lagging.

JDMDreams 07-23-2021 03:00 PM

That was quick,:okay: July 23 2020 it was 30 new cases a day and 30 for 7 day moving average, so we're off to a good start with all the vaccines already:badpokerface:

But this is exactly why I have a problem with percentages being thrown around.

Doing some rough math with generalizations, the article says between June 15th and July 15th.

From BCCDC, there were:
562 cases June 13-19
328 cases June 20-26
240 cases June 27-Jul 3
280 cases Jul 3-10
For a total of 1410 new infections within that month.

On June 13th there were 575K second doses and On July 10th there were 1.96M second doses. Just taking an average, we'll use 1.27 million second doses administered during that time period.

So, 4% of 1410 new infections, is 57 cases, out of 1.27 million people. That's an infection rate of 0.000044.

Got shot 1 june 7th > 4 days ago up until now my arm has been a 1/10 sore, and i have a constant 1/10 nausia.
Anyone else have excessively delayed symptoms?

Sure enough i get the text last night to book shot 2, go to book it, literally all 40 places in vancouver "have no availability" for the next 4 months

Booked in bby

Ps, our anti vaxxers at work have gone from 3, to about 7 that are open about it

punkwax 07-26-2021 03:56 PM

It’s different for kids I guess. Got the text on Friday and could’ve booked them for same day. I didn’t because they were doing playland on Saturday but they both got their 2nd dose yesterday.

Both of them are a little under the weather today. Fruit and water all day.

68style 07-26-2021 05:24 PM

I had almost zero symptoms both shots (Pfizer)… just the requisite sore arm and easily tired for a couple of days… and both times I got like 30 minutes of sweats and chills…

Totally can’t complain a lot of people get pretty severe symptoms so I feel super lucky.

There goes Turd's plans for re-opening the border. -well played by the union reps to improve their leverage in contract negotiations for all CBSA officers. LUL

OTTAWA – Unions representing thousands of Canadian Border Service Agency workers say its members have voted in favour of striking, jeopardizing the federal government’s reopening plans.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and the Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) say members may strike as soon as Aug. 6, three days before the federal government is set to loosen its travel restrictions.

Starting Aug. 9, fully vaccinated U.S. citizens will be able to visit Canada through the land borders, which have been closed to non-essential travel for more than a year, as well as by flying in.

The federal government says those visitors will no longer have to quarantine upon arrival.

Good for CBSA. They've been out of contract for a while now and this should be the added pressure they need to get it done.

CivicBlues 07-27-2021 01:27 PM

So if CBSA goes on strike, the borders are left unguarded?
