Sutter with the Sedins is a bit of a head scratcher but at least it opens the 3C spot for McCann:

Sedin - Sedin - Sutter
Baertshi - Horvat - Vrbata
Burrows - McCann - Hansen
Prust - Cracknell - Dorsett
(Virtanen)

I'd rather see this lineup, but this is a hell of an expensive 4th line.....

sedin sedin vrbata
baertschi horvat virtanen
burrows mccann hansen
prust sutter dorsett

Prust at the trade deadline should be able to get a 2-3rd round pick. Big strong player that's perfect for the playoffs. By the looks of things we might have a number of draft picks if everything falls into place correctly.

Bruh, do you even Vancouver Canucks?

We'd be lucky with a 5th rounder when all is said and done. :troll:

Poor Corrado...but Hutton hella outplayed him.

So....

Sedin-Sedin-Vrbata
Baerschi-Horvat-Virtanen
Hansen-Sutter-Burrows
Prust-McCann-Dorsett
Cracknell

Edler-Tanev
Hamhuis-Hutton
Sbisa-Weber

Please make that second line happen. Just for 9 games even. Please, Willie...let the kids play.

As long as that line is scoring more than they're letting in, i honestly dont give a fuck if it can't float defensively.

i'm a bit split about Corrado cus it kinda made sense to send Hutton back too
But at the same time, i like the message that management is sending.
Corrado played like he'd already got the spot in the preseason and he deserves to be in the Comets more than Hutton.

Holy fuck. Torres suspended for half the season.

Raffi Torres of San Jose Sharks suspended 41 games for illegal check to the head, interference in preseason game - Department of Player Safety News (http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=781798)

A well-deserved half season.

NEW YORK – San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres has been suspended for 41 games, without pay, for interference and an illegal check to the head against Anaheim Ducks forward Jakob Silfverberg during a preseason game in Anaheim on Saturday, Oct. 3, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 12:45 of the first period. Torres was assessed a match penalty for illegal check to the head.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Torres will forfeit $440,860.29. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Stage 1 can be voluntary or involuntary (if arrested for a substance or substance abuse related offense), can be outpatient or inpatient, and the player can continue training, practicing, and playing as normal (if outpatient) with penalties so long as he abides by the terms of the program.

If a player violates the terms of stage 1 or is convicted of a substance-related offense, he jumps to stage 2.

Stage 2 is involuntary, requires initial inpatient treatment at a facility recommended by the treatment program's doctors, and the player is suspended without pay until cleared by the treatment program's doctors, except a stipend to cover living expenses. The player may not participate in any training, practices, or games until cleared from the program by the program's doctors.

Kassian is fucked. Contract is up at the end of the year, his only saving grace may be that he's a pending RFA instead of UFA.

Okay, so I was just looking at our 23-man roster heading into the season and, I don't know why I didn't notice it before, but it really irked me when I noticed this.

This is our 23-man roster:

D. Sedin
H. Sedin
R. Vrbata
A. Burrows
B. Sutter
D. Dorsett
J. Hansen
C. Higgins
B. Prust
S. Baertschi
B. Horvat
J. McCann
J. Virtanen
A. Cracknell

A. Edler
D. Hamhuis
C. Tanev
L. Sbisa
M. Bartkowski
Y. Weber
B. Hutton

R. Miller
J. Markstrom

We placed A. Biega, F. Corrado, and L. Vey on waivers today.

Here's the problem ...

Hutton doesn't need to clear waivers.
Higgins is injured and can be placed on IR when the deadline passes.
Placing Higgins on IR opens up a roster spot.

We could've put Hutton in the minors on paper until game day (still kept him with the team), not put Corrado on waivers, and then put Hutton back on the roster when Higgins is placed on IR and played him on Wednesday.

This would've given us 2-3 weeks (possibly longer if someone else gets hurt) to evaluate the young guys while not unnecessarily placing another prospect on waivers.

Going to be so pissed if we lose Corrado and then end up sending one/both of McCann and Virtanen back to juniors this month.

punkwax

1040 brought that up with Linden today who basically said they understood it was an option but wanted to stick with the mantra that they would reward those who outperformed others.

They didn't exercise the system, which probably isn't a great idea. However, I imagine the youngsters are aware, feel really good about it, and hopefully this confidence makes them play that much harder as a result.

Not saying it was the right move, just looking for the silver lining lol

I disagree. Carrado will be a top 4 NHL D man. He is only 22.
In teh 2013 playoffs, he showed a lot of ability and last year he was playing top pair minutes in Utica.

But the biggest knock against him is that he is a stay at home D man. And much like Tanev, not a lot of offensive output. Not the greatest shot so you won't have him out on the point for the PP.
One of the things that the Canucks need is a good puck moving D man with a good first pass out of the zone.

I truely believe the leafs are trying to load up on players they see with potential and will trade them at the dead line for picks. These players cost them little or nothing as they were free agents or picked up on waivers.
As weird as it may sound, that is the only way they can fast track the "restock" of their shelves.

Whether Corrado pans out or not, I think it is stupid that Canucks management did't work their roster to keep Corrado on the team for now. He was the youngest player placed on waivers. Obviously a team is going to pick up a promising 22 year old d-man who is making near the league minimum. First Clendening was thrown into the Sutter deal, now Corrado goes for nothing at all. Lets just give away all of our young d-men.

Corrado may end up being a 5th/6th d-man for his career, but this is absolutely terrible asset management from the Canucks executive team.

Lack signs a 2 year extension with the canes at $2.75M AAV.

Gonna be a steal of a deal if he can become the bonafide number 1 in that time

I always thought he was looking for something with longer term and closer to 4M, which was why we couldn't afford to keep him. JB knew how much it would have cost to keep him here... I like Markstrom, but hoping he'll be good enough to start in 2 years is a bit optimistic.

Actually, apparently Torres isn't a repeat offender according to the current CBA. Only the last 18 months count toward that rule.

That's only the rules under the old CBA, and even then a players previous history outside of 18 months can be looked at but can't be used to determine the length of suspension. The current CBA has no 18 month provision

On the waiver front, what was the justification not to put Higgins on IR and leave a roster spot open at least for a few more weeks?

You might. But how many times have we seen guys shine in the preseason (eg Shirokov) only to watch them fizzle out a few games into the regular season.

I'm not saying it will happen with any of our 3 guys, but it wouldn't be the first time it happened. With Higgins 2-3 weeks away from returning to the lineup, maybe more if they can assign him on an AHL conditioning stint or another player gets injured, it just didn't make sense.

as John Garrett said during the preseason, on top of the 100 fucking times he said that the Sharks farm team are playing in San Jose, the difference between the flash in the pan preseason players (ie. Shirokov, Shannon) is pedigree. Virtanen/McCann all first rounders, less likely to fizzle out.

I applaud management for taking a hardnose stance and willing to make these 'bold moves', it sends a message to the players who they are trying to up the internal compete level. But this isn't an excuse to be making stupid illogical moves. I also have a soft spot for guys like MG who manipulate the fine print like nobody's business to try and give your team every last advantage to compete

im hoping the leash is short on miller not sold on the guy and just not confident with him in net...would rather have a huge goalie like markstrom in net i have more confidence in him because when he plays he battles tries to like thru depfenders...as for miller he looks lazy and not as quick..

Miller is a very intellectual goalie, the way he plays his game. Markstrom is much the same way young Luongo was when he first came here, made all these crazy looking acrobatic saves because the finer points of his game were so raw. He is definitely a better technical goalie when he left than when he arrived, though many felt he wasn't able to make those amazing saves anymore. I've always liked Markstrom's upside especially with Rolly helping to hone his skills. But I'm not ready to write off Miller yet either, as a goalie myself I really enjoy watching him play.

the problem with shirokov was they really never gave him a chance...canucks management always gives their young guys a short leash...ie except vey but thank god he is gone and hopefully never called back up!

I don't think that was Shirokov's problem... if it was there'd be 29 other GMs ready to pounce on all that. You earn your leash IMO. Perfect case in point Bo from last year.

mickz
10-06-2015, 11:23 AM

The Canucks started that season 2-4 and one of those wins came from a SO. Many players were under-performing at that time. Shirokov played the first couple games before getting buried deep in the lineup and later sent down to the minors after 6 GP.

as John Garrett said during the preseason, on top of the 100 fucking times he said that the Sharks farm team are playing in San Jose, the difference between the flash in the pan preseason players (ie. Shirokov, Shannon) is pedigree. Virtanen/McCann all first rounders, less likely to fizzle out.

I'm not sure about Hutton, I'm hoping he develops into a more offensive Tanev.

Judging by the Canucks draft history of first round picks, lots of them have fizzled out.

Former NHL player Sean Avery was last week on two criminal charges.

Report: Former NHLer Avery arrested - Article - TSN (http://www.tsn.ca/report-former-nhler-avery-arrested-1.372713)

-wonder why he was throwing objects at vehicles. Was he high as fuck? Maybe he didn't get his sloppy seconds?
:lawl:

Former NHL player Sean Avery was arrested last week on two criminal charges.

According to a report from the 27east.com, Avery was arrested by Southampton Village Police on Wednesday, Sept. 30 following a routine traffic stop.

Avery was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanours.

According to the report, the criminal mischief charge was for Avery allegedly throwing objects at passing vehicles. He also was found to be in possession of two prescription drugs, acetaminophen with oxycodone and roxicodone

Avery was released on bail.

The 35-year-old last played in the NHL in the 2011-12 season. In 580 career games, Avery had 90 goals and 247 points.

You're in for a treat for 3 on 3. It's bananas.

As for the kids- I think I speak for everyone when I saw I hope they can continue the momentum they built up over the preseason into the regular one. They'll likely get a shorter look than Bo did last year since Bo was injured going into the season and had that AHL stint before actually playing in the regular season. I hope that the kids get the same treatment as Bo last year even when Higgins gets back and there's one less spot.

The Sedins and Sutter line was on fire tonight! 6 points.

Positive signs from tonight's game:

-Setting an physical tone early in the game. This Canucks
team is not gonna get pushed around by any NHL team, especially the Flames!

-Shots, shots, and more shots. Over 40 shots on net tonight.

-Goaltending. Miller had a solid night. He saw the puck well thanks to his defence keeping Flames players from blocking his view of the puck

Smart defensive play: Tanev had 1 assist, +4 rating. He made smart passes all night to forwards. Good decision making.

Negatives: Sbisa still gives away the puck like a grenade. :fuckthatshit:

Ya I notice on the big rushes he kinda runs into the D and just lets it go into the corner or loses it. However, IIRC both times there was no open forward support for him to pass to or to retrieve the puck.

Has the ability to, just gotta work on the last part. Still promising.

Has the ability to, just gotta work on the last part. Still promising.

This. Every time Bartkowski rushed the puck up, it was either during a change or there was no support on the far side. That said, I'm probably thinking he's reluctant since he's essentially first/second person out when Weber comes back in.

You can really see why so many vets said Hutton impressed them the most (out of the new guys). Along with his skill and confidence with the puck, his enthusiasm is infectious listening to his interviews. Hopefully it continues on if he sticks around for the dog-days of December-February.

McCann shouldve got an assist

I don't understand how that wasn't an assist.

McCann --> Burrows --> goal

I would be ok with him coming here if it was 4 year deal worth 12mill

Looch is like Byfuglien. Everyone hates them until they start playing for your team. He's the prototypical player to play with the Sedins

Nabatron

I dont see him as a good fit with the sedins seems too slow! would rather have him on the second line or just even on the team so other teams wouldnt fuck with us...ie Calgary and other big teams in the west!

No hearings for both Brown and Lucic.

I don't get why big bad Lucic always gets his big ass nose so out of joint anytime someone touches him... I mean, you can't take a little hipcheck from Logan Couture? Bitch please.

Seriously! You're a fucking enforcer so obviously peeps are gonna take a run at you. Take that shit like a man and score a fucking goal for your team or make a smart play or something. But don't get all pre-school playground butt hurt and, in turn, hurt your teams chances at winning. Not that that's what happened but short fuses lead to bad decisions.

Lucic with the Sedin's would actually be great IMO.

My god sbisa just cannot make the simple play he has a brain fart a few times a game and it always costs us! It started a flames comeback but good thing flames fizzled out...

Brace yourself for a season and more of this

You make it sound like the Sedins have the foot speed of Pavel Bure. Speed doesn't matter so much since the Sedins are a possession and puck control line

I don't understand how that wasn't an assist.

McCann --> Burrows --> goal

The way it was explained was that it counted as an own goal so only credit is given to the last opposing player that touched the puck.

IE Billy Smith being the first goalie to "score" a goal.

Same thing happened last year when Wideman scored into his own goal on a delayed penalty call. Goal was credited to Weber.

But for McCann's sake, I would argue it as being a deflected own goal and give McCann the apple.

Had to follow-up with playnow about this ticket. I know that there was at least of couple of us that made this bet too.

So if you haven't had your winnings deposited, follow-up with them!

Though I'm not sure who it was that posted this bet (7seven, probably?), big shout to you to!

this kind of thing isn't necessarily the player's fault. the coach should put a play together to get a guy somewhere to make a play to.

Lol yup, and I totally forgot about it, didn't see it posted yet to my account, but I've been having a pretty awesome start to NCAAF/NFL betting so totally haven't been paying attention to my hockey bets, thanks for the reminder.

Wonder if I'm the only one in Vancouver wearing an Eichel jersey today :fullofwin: Eichel was a beast during the 3rd period, had an ok start during 1st and 2nd periods but you could definitely see some nerves playing in his 1st NHL game. Sam Reinhart looked pretty good too.

Theres something about eichel that oozes coolness....i think the chip on his shoulder for always being thought of the consolation prize is pushing him to be better. Sabres will be be real threat with him around

Eichel's strides are unreal. some plays made are like Jagr as well -- using his big frame to shield people from the puck and his almost unmovable. to be able to do this at age 18/19 against NHL defenseman is impressive

lol, the game changes so much. Only in such an open game would you see a bank pass off the boards back to yourself.

Then again, it was because the goalies were playing so well that helped make it exciting... OT probably should have ended after the first or second scoring attempt in that game.

Not sure if all OT's will be this good.

Kings-Richards-NHL-NHLPA agree on settlement to Mike Richards contract termination.

Kings will still be hit with cap recapture penalty plus a special buyout penalty spread out over 15 years (as opposed to the usual 10 as Richards had 5 years remaining). Exact figure on cap penalty has yet to be released.

Richards is officially an unrestricted free agent now.

something like that ^ plus im guessing the Kings must have known about his issues and the way they decided to help was "send him to the minors" so they didnt really do much to help. This is just my opinion and thats why theyre on the hook for a certain amount
