Our inability to get to the bottom really puts into perspective how bad Edmonton is. We can't even drop that low on purpose. They're that low and they're actually trying (for the first half of the season at least)

I can't imagine being an Edmonton fan for the last 5 years...

Doesn't matter. In the end, Edmonton fans can say their team has won the Stanley Cup - and more than once, like 5 times.

Friedman: Pavel Datsyuk may return to Russia next season - Winging It In Motown (http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2016/4/2/11354026/friedman-pavel-datsyuk-may-return-to-russia-next-season)
"We've all understood that at some point, Pavel Datsyuk would go back to Russia and play. There is a legitimate chance according to sources that might happen after this season. If it does occur, it would be for family reasons. Datsyuk isn't commenting and neither is the club. It is expected that everyone will sit down during the offseason for a final decision. The key thing to remember is that if he does go, his cap hit of $7.5 million stays on the Wings roster since he signed after 35."

So the last two games against oilers could determine if they pass the Canucks in the standings! That's if Canucks lose the other two games as well!

Canucks are riding a two game win streak and haven't won 3 games in a row....watch they win the last four games in a row! Just to show us we can't have nice things....

I hate the fucking Oilers.
such good tankers...but with the crippling inability to make any improvements.

Anyway, fuck em.
The one franchise I want to see the league come down hard on for being so fucking incompetent.

If/when they get Matthews, there better be some outrage around the league

murd0c
04-03-2016, 08:52 AM
We hate the Oilers cause of the tank game but year after year even tho they are the best at sucking every single is still sold out.. You look at the Canucks people stop going right away and it's fucken pathetic and to be honest we have some of the worst fans in the league since they are so fickle and only go to games when they are doing good.

MarkyMark
04-03-2016, 09:02 AM
I guess but why support a team that blows? I understand the "true fan" logic but I'm not gonna spend my time and money supporting a team that sucks. You know what you get when a team sucks and still makes cash? The Oilers.

murd0c
04-03-2016, 09:14 AM
Or the flames, leafs, Habs, jets, Ottawa...every single Canadian team other then the Canucks and it's beyond pathetic in my eyes. I can understand not wanting to support a team because of not being nice happy with management but a fan should be a fan win or lose and the above mentally is what I'm talking about.

Hondaracer
04-03-2016, 09:35 AM
So in that light the leafs are by far the best team in Canada fan wise.

chouchou
04-03-2016, 10:22 AM
eh.. history is on the other Canadian teams' side though. They have had success in the past.. and their fans have something to be excited for i.e. Oilers have McDavid and plenty of other first overalls (idc what you say, he's fun to watch).. what do the Canucks have? an aging core and Vey? Come on.. tell me you'll pay $50+ a ticket, ridiculous amounts for booze and food, spend a night downtown to watch slow, rec league hockey?

I'm still a fan - one who is marginally invested emotionally and cares about what the team does but is slowly starting to give less fucks because of some idiotic decisions by management (cue armchair GM but w/e) and a team that has lost their spirit. Sure, it would be nice to see the young guns play with some effort - but I'll be more inclined to support financially when the rest of the team is on board too. Nonetheless there's no way I'm going to spend money on a team that hasn't shown any appreciation for their fans, and I think many others in this city share my mentality.

To be realistic, the only way for active change is when the Owners start feeling it in their pocketbooks.

Vancouver doesn't have the corporate structure like TO, a ton of the season tickets in Van are corporate. When taking your clients to games is no longer a draw, you cancel your tickets. It isn't a social thing like in TO where you retreat to your private lounge and smooze with other big wigs. You're usually taking 1-2 clients out for the night. And with a product like this, people just don't want to go.

My dads company dropped their 4 tickets last season, and this season 3 other ticket holders I know with pairs in the lower bowl all did not renew their tickets.

I don't mind the people who don't renew the 10-13k season ticket pairs, that's a huge investment. The people who are really the ones to blame are all the clowns who have repeated endlessly that games are too expensive to go to over the last 5-10 years, and now are not going or taking their kids etc when pairs are dirt cheap.

It's like the housing market, bitch bitch bitch about it, but then when it becomes affordable, you're not in a position or not willing to get into the market anyways.

The bandwagon cheapo fan who has disolved as the team has gotten worse is a far bigger hit to the market than a company not renewing $12,000 season tickets imo

Sticking with my team through thick and thin will make ultimate victory that much sweeter. I will be able to say "I was there when the 18-wheeler went off the cliff year after year." Fair enough, Bouncing Bettys - but what's your definition of a fan being there all along? Continually supporting financially and going to games, or simply hoping for the best and being emotionally invested 'through thick and thin?'

To be blunt, few people have motivation to purchase tickets - especially for an event that doesn't bring them as much joy as it did when Rogers Arena use to be an electrifying atmosphere. Disposable income goes to things we enjoy, but there's so little to be excited for these days with the Canucks. That doesn't mean we don't wish for positive change and steps taken in the right direction... we just do so quietly from our couches with the game playing in the background. lol

I have no issues supporting the team win or lose, try or not try. I'll watch every game, follow all the news, read everything online but for me to spend my hard earned money to actually go watch a game is a whole different story. I dropped my seasons this year after 8 or so years, it was just getting too much for me to spend that money only to be bored to death at the game. I can stand watching the team lose but show me there was 100% effort and or give me some entertainment value or I'll just stick to the TV instead.

I've noticed in the past few years its gotten so bad that myself, friends, coworkers would often turn down free tickets b/c even for free people can't invest in going.

Uh, they sell out in other Canadian cities because there's nothing to do comparatively speaking and in TO due to corporate like Hondaracer says. There's a lot of activity competition in Vancouver and it's not super cold here in the winter.

The Canucks have gouged the fans for so much money in the past 5 years and now it is coming back to haunt them.

As with the housing market and bandwagon bitches, it's usually the ones with little or no investment in the game that are complaining.

P.Kane reached 100 pts today with a hat trick and an assist, Panarin had 4 pts as well. Could Kane be a candidate for the Masterton trophy? Had a crazy drama filled off-season and came back better than ever to put up 100 pts and counting.

I'm not a Hawks fan but Kane & Panarin are awesome to watch, every bit as exciting as Benn & Seguin in my opinion.

Epic, it took me a while to get mine signed by both players because a lot of Kirk or Trevor signings specified that they won't sign this picture but ultimately I finally hit a Kirk and Linden separately where they didn't have that rule.

Best guess without doing any research is maybe $300 tops but that depends how big we're talking about. The market for autographed stuff is generally kind of weak. Silent auctions at games tend to fetch more because you catch people in the moment. Yes, this is one of the most epic Canucks pictures to own so that serves you well but for a buyer it ain't exactly hard to get either.

$500 seems about right for a framed, autographed one but it's not worth that much, really. It's a photo you can get off the internet and both players are still alive and very active in the community.

inb4 someone talks about Linden and charity related

Like how one guy provided leadership and mentored a number of young players that went on to become stars like Nazzy, Bert, Mo, and the Sedins...and the other skipped town and went to Florida?

I like Bure too but really, he scored goals. What has he really done for the franchise? Only last year did he start showing up at Canucks stuff again when they retired his number and for Gino.

Bure was undoubtedly more talented and true...Linden reputation is greater than his actual on-ice numbers but if you think Bure did more for the franchise than Linden, you are nuts. You can argue Sedins or Linden (and it's the Sedins)

The best case scenario, and I know this a big longshot, to rebuild this team into a championship contender is to hope that Aquaman sells the team.

I hope Aquaman bleeds money this season, so that we have a new owner AND a new general manager and president to turn this team around. We need experienced, knowledgeable management who knows how to build a winning culture in a hockey team.

-did my good deed for the day. A co worker, a c-Lai, was asking me for help about NHL jerseys. Long story short, her husband is selling their i-Mac desktop for on Craigslist for 190 bucks.

My co-worker's hubby gets a counter offer from a guy who is willing to trade his "authentic" Crosby autographed jersey for the i-Mac. This guy claims that he bought it for $375 at a Christmas auction.

My first thought was "That autograph is fake". :lawl:

A Crosby jersey with his genuine autograph is worth on average about 750 bucks on the market.

That guy is willing to sell his Crosby autographed jersey at way below market value for an i-Mac??? :lawl: Are you serious???

I told the C-Lai to tell her hubby to ask for a certificate of authenticity from the guy to prove that the Crosby autographed jersey is real.

Otherwise, I think that autograph is fake. The jersey might be real but that autograph can be fake. :lawl:

Chychrun could end up being the next Griffin Reinhart. Top rated defensive prospect picked 4th overall just because he was a "top rated prospect". I remember before the 2012 draft, I was speaking to some guys from the Oilers organization and they kept saying that he was slow and didn't have NHL level footspeed. Low and behold, many d-men picked after him have turned into better bets. Funny how the Oilers ended up with him in the end.

I hope Benning doesn't pick a prospect just because he is rated highly by Central Scouting. Gotta look beyond that.

If Dim Jim listens to Wiesbrod and decides to make a change in his draft decision, we might see JB's shocked face again. That deer in the headlights look of thinking he gets to draft a sleeper pick :troll:

No, that's from years ago (I believe New Jersey was the last, moving up from 8th to 4th to draft Larsson; don't have time to double-check that).

Then it changed to whoever (Edmonton) wins the lottery drafts 1st overall.

Starting this draft, there are 3 lotteries for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall picks, meaning a team could move down as far as 3 positions.

So, if we win out and get some bad luck on the out-of-town scoreboard, we would finish 22nd, meaning we could draft 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th.

30th place has the best odds in the lottery, 17th has the worst odds.

With the Sabres win tonight, the best we can finish is 23rd, so worst case scenario is now 11th overall.

Too bad Montreal and Arizona lost; could've bumped that up to 9th.

Best case scenario, we finish 28th, which would be 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th.

the shink trade still confuses me to this day! I mean they didnt even give the kid a chance to play in the top 6....he played one game i think it was and it was with plugs like dorsett! Typical canucks kid is scoring 20plus goals in the AHL lets bring him up and plug him with duds and see if he can produce....

I am going to refrain from voicing my thoughts on the JB deals and how the Canucks "tanked" or didn't tank until after we see who our first pick is and what deals/signings are made this off-season.
Trading Jensen for Etem. Will they re-sign Etem.
Shink for Grunland is looking like a bad deal for the Nucks.
Baertschi is starting to look like a good deal.
Will they re-sign Vey?
Will they re-sign any other veterans like Hamhuis or Vrbata?
Will they buy out Higgies or Burr's contract?
Will they sign a top free agent? ie STamkos, Lucic, or Eriksson?
What draft spot will they get? As high as first or as low as 12th?

the return for Shink wasn't too great but honestly who the fuck is he gonna take over? in no way is he a 3rd or 4th line player. can he overtake Daniel? no. Baer? at this point no.
some would say give him a chance on the rw. we got Hansen as 21g while not even playing a full season with the Sedins. Rodin, Swedish mvp while playing only 3/4 the season coming over. add to that possible additions like Lucic/Eriksson.
in the end he's expendable, on top of it the way he played in juniors and the ahl he will end up with concussion issues, he runs around with his head down, big nono

Shink can easily become another Grabner on the team. Fast skilled forward but need more of a defensive game in order to stay in the line up.

My only problem is with the trade is why Granlund? Unless Grandlund can become that swiss army knife player like Hansen, I don't know why couldn't we trade for a depth player that the team is weak on ie defencemen.

It makes sense, the team intensity level picks up when you are playing a better team. Might not happen every time but it's probably the case. You ever play sports and when you are playing with higher level people it takes your game a step up, same thing when you are playing with lower level people sometimes you sink to their level. Dont quite see the rational for saying they're idiots and the team is fucked, that just makes you look dense and naive..

Also, I am little upset the twins. As great as they were and how much they have done for the city, I am upset by some of their comments.
I guess it goes back to what Cherry always harps about. Good old canadian boys crap.

So the twins are saying the team lacked intensity and other crap and that some of the younger guys aren't putting in their full efforts, but then in the last few games, the twins have been guilty of many bad give aways and for many of those games that they lost, the twins went pointless.

Gretzky is spot on about the lack of creativity and imagination in today's game. The "defence first" mentality means the game is more of a grind than an offensive showcase like back in the 80s.

Wayne Gretzky says today's NHL lacks creativity, imagination - Sportsnet.ca (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/wayne-gretzky-says-todays-nhl-lacks-creativity-imagination/)

One of the major talking points during the 2015-16 NHL season has been around finding ways to increase scoring around the league.

Increasing the size of nets and shrinking the size of goalie equipment were among the ideas discussed during the league’s GM meetings in November and March.

If there’s anyone qualified to speak about scoring in the NHL, though, it’s Wayne Gretzky.

In an interview with the New York Times, the NHL’s all-time leader in goals and assists spoke about how drastically the game has changed since his playing days.

“When I was 10 years old, they’d throw a puck on the ice and say, ‘Go score.’ Now, at 10 years old, the kids are taught to play in their lanes,” Gretzky said. “Defencemen stay back. Everybody blocks shots. I mean, my goodness, I don’t think I ever blocked a shot, and I killed penalties every single game. I thought goaltenders were paid to block shots, not forwards. It’s changed completely. I think the biggest thing we’ve lost is a little bit of our creativity and imagination in general.”

Only two teams are averaging more than three goals per game this season – the Dallas Stars (3.23 goals per game in 80 games) and Washington Capitals (3.04 after 79 contests).

It’s a staggering decline if you were to contrast it to the 1983-84 Edmonton Oilers team that averaged a whopping 5.575 goals per game. Gretzky reunited with some of his former teammates Wednesday during a farewell ceremony at Rexall Place.

Now, that Oilers squad is a bit of an outlier considering they’re the greatest offensive team in NHL history, but there’s no denying scoring is at its lowest point since the 2004 lockout.

Through 1,199 games this season, the average goals per team per game was at 2.71. That’s the lowest average since 2003-04 when there were no obstruction interference calls, no two-line passes and the neutral zone trap was a common team strategy.

The Great One added that while there are still a plethora of NHL stars that bring an imaginative, high-octane style to the rink – just watch an Alex Ovechkin or Patrick Kane highlight reel – the “defence first” mentality is something that starts at a young age.

“All in all, it’s sort of a grinding game now,” Gretzky added. “You’re taught from Day 1 that your role and responsibility is to keep the puck out of your net.”

the CBJ have to win today because they are playing the Hawks sat and I can't really see them winning that games especially on a back to back.

I find it really odd that the last game of the season is the Ducks vs Caps... Weird that a west team is playing an east team so late in the season and there is a good chance its going to be a Stanley cup preview as well.

Torts was a pretty good hire.

He tanked us to 6th overall and picked Virtanen.
He got us a 2nd round draft pick from Columbus.

He's close on giving us a higher chance of top 3 pick in this years draft with a win tonight.

i don't think that's been determined yet

they've got an option to give either this years or the 2017 or 2018 iirc
haven't heard if they've made a decision which 2nd round pick to give as compensation yet

Columbus can choose to give us their 2016, 2017, or 2018 2nd round pick. Odds are it'll be the 2018 pick.

Any reasons why Demko wouldn't sign with us?

Perhaps Demko doesn't want to play for a coach like WD. :troll:

murd0c
04-08-2016, 02:01 PM
If Demko signs he needs to quit college and play in the AHL next year, the reason why he might not want to make the decision right now he might want to still take advantage of that free ride of to get what ever degree he's currently going for. He's prob bummed that he lost out of the frozen 4 and needs time to think which is understandable with what he's been through.

SumAznGuy
04-08-2016, 02:02 PM
I could be wrong, but if Demko signs with the Canucks, that means he turns pro and cannot play NCAA hockey next year. I believe he has 1 year left till he graduates.
Same goes for Boeser. Boeser is a freshman this year and has 3 more years of schooling.

6o4__boi
04-08-2016, 02:06 PM
but you'd think he'd want to be a goalie more than to finish his engineering degree
after all, that's gonna be your immediate career for the next decade or so if all goes well

plus, he's done pretty much everything you expect out of a college goalie...stellar season, set records, Hobey Baker nominee, you'd think the next logical step is minors and a fast track to the big leagues (especially with Vancouver)
coming back next year to do one more year of school and try for a college championship seems like a regression over turning pro unless the end goal is to get lucrative deals at the end of it

SumAznGuy
04-08-2016, 02:09 PM
I think the safe route is to finish school so that even if the hockey thing doesn't pan out, which is the case for many people, he would still have his college degree to fall back on.
As well as other reasons that we may not know which may include playing in a goalie graveyard market or playing behind Miller/Markstrom.

6o4__boi
04-08-2016, 02:16 PM
We've actually been a decent goalie factory lately
Luongo, Schneider, Lack, Miller (rejuvenated), Markstrom
Plus Miller's only got a year left...no way in hell he re-signs so Demko is probably looking at 1 year in the minors and then spending the next year or two as a back up to Markstrom.
He's got a good shot at passing Markstrom if Markstrom continues to exhibit his glove side weakness.

Any reasons why Demko would sign with us?

fixed.

- goalie graveyard
- steaming pile of shit management
- pressure cooker Canadian environment
- not exactly an up and coming team
- we're not in the USA (he's American)

coaching I'd actually argue is one benefit Vancouver has since Rollie Melanson has been doing a pretty solid job... other than that, not sure why he'd want to come
