fixed.

- goalie graveyard
- steaming pile of shit management
- pressure cooker Canadian environment
- not exactly an up and coming team
- we're not in the USA (he's American)

coaching I'd actually argue is one benefit Vancouver has since Rollie Melanson has been doing a pretty solid job... other than that, not sure why he'd want to come

I think in one of those pre game sportsnet shin digs they said melanson might not be returning.. I have no proof or sauce but I'm pretty sure I heard that while watching a past game. Could be just rumblings out of the media though.

Also no point on blowing the demko delay out of the water. Vancouver you think would be a good destination, probably one of the best cities to live in the NHL, also by the time demko is in his prime canucks will have had a couple years of gathering some high draft choices that will hopefully pan out.

he's a highly touted goalie prospect...the demand (and bonuses) will be pretty high if he goes to Free Agency
He'll get paid the same regardless of where he signs.

But they can still offer performance bonuses right? Or is that gone?
Maybe I'm losing my memory a little, that's still a thing right?

Canucks win tmr fans will turn against the franchise all summer

Canucks lose tmr fans will be happy and hopeful for this franchise again

what will the canucks do?

But they can still offer performance bonuses right? Or is that gone?
Maybe I'm losing my memory a little, that's still a thing right?
Player's on an ELC are entitled to negotiate a signing bonus up to 10% of their annual salary, games played bonuses, Exhibit 5 Type A performance bonuses (limited), and Exhibit Type B performance bonuses.

I think in one of those pre game sportsnet shin digs they said melanson might not be returning.. I have no proof or sauce but I'm pretty sure I heard that while watching a past game. Could be just rumblings out of the media though.

This was mentioned quite a few times on TSN1040 and they even had someone from the Canucks on the radio and they asked them that question.
It sounded like Rolie is choosing not to stay, but no one knows why.
Could be family reasons.

Jmac
04-08-2016, 07:16 PM
On 1040 several weeks ago, they speculated a frosty relationship with Miller may be one of the reasons. At this point, only management and Rolie know for certain.

The speculation is that Dan Cloutier will be promoted from Utica and/or Alex Auld will be hired if Melanson doesn't come back.

Obviously Demko is hurt that McCann has wished Boeser good luck, but had no tweet for him. Ending their bromance, and any love, along with intentions of signing he had with the Canucks

Oilers fans on hfboards say they would skip pulujarvi and pick chychrun lol

Devastator
04-09-2016, 10:26 AM
I think it would be crazy to trade a guy like Horvat, He is only gonna get bigger, stronger and he is a leader in my books (Jonathan Toews maturity). He is a Bergeron/Kesler type player. You need guys like him to be competitive and to win cups.

The last thing the Canucks need in Bo Horvat shutting us down and McDavid and company putting pucks into our net like peewee hockey...lol. I don't even want to imagine that.

At the time this was posted, this wasn't true. A VAN ROW combined with a CBJ OTL would've resulted in CBJ finishing 28th as VAN held the tie-breaker (tied in ROW, VAN won season series).

Fortunately, CBJ won, so we've locked in 28th place regardless of the result of our game.

2016 NHL Draft Lottery rules and complete odds table - Pension Plan Puppets (http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2016/4/10/11396278/2016-nhl-draft-lottery-final-rules-and-odds-table)

For the first time, the NHL will run its draft lottery for the top three picks. But that's not the only thing you need to know for the 2016 NHL Draft lottery.

As a result of the new format, the team who finished 30th in the regular season can now drop to fourth overall, and will not be guaranteed a top-two pick. After the three lotteries are run, the 11 remaining teams will slot into pick 4-14 based on where they finished in the standings (least points picking 4th, with regulation and overtime wins for all tiebreakers).

Last season, the NHL Draft gave all 14 non-playoff teams a chance to pick first overall -- where only the worst five teams had previously been able to move up to the top selection -- for the first time.

In order to in theory prevent tanking for the first overall pick in two draft classes where Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews were available, the NHL has also reduced the odds of the 30th overall team winning the lottery from one-in-four in 2014 to one-in-five in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, the Edmonton Oilers had an 11.5 per cent chance of winning the lottery when they moved up to select McDavid.

Because the lottery is now being held for three different selections, each non-playoff team can pick anywhere from four to seven different spots, dependent on which teams ahead or behind them in the standings win each of the top three picks.

Under the new system, the seven lowest finishing teams actually have higher odds of moving back one spot in the draft than any of their chances of moving up or staying put.

The 2016 NHL Draft lottery will be held on April 30, 2016, in Toronto ahead of the first round of this year's draft on June 24 in Buffalo. After each draw, the remaining teams will readjust proportionally.

In order for a prospect to be eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, he must be 18 years old on or before Sept. 15, 2016.

For the Toronto Maple Leafs, the 30th-place finish still means there's a nearly 50/50 chance they don't draft in the top three. In a class where a clear-cut top three has developed, and the players ranked from 4-8 can all be reasonably argued as the fourth best prospect in the class, those odds aren't nothing.

If all three of the lotteries are won by teams who finished 27th or higher then the Leafs in all likelihood won't have a chance at selecting any of Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine, and Jesse Puljujarvi.

Still, for the second straight season, the Leafs will have a top-four pick.

Datsyuk confirms that he's returning to Russia after the playoffs.

-gonna miss seeing Magic Man's world class puck handling skills. :tears:

Datsyuk confirms he's returning to Russia next season - Sportsnet.ca (http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/datsyuk-confirms-hes-returning-russia-next-season/)
Get a good look at Pavel Datsyuk during the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs, hockey fans. It’ll be the last chance you get to watch the “Magic Man” suit up in the NHL.

On Sunday, the Detroit Free Press confirmed what our own Elliotte Friedman reported on April 2: that the 2015-16 season would be Datsyuk’s final one in the NHL as he plans to return to Russia next season.

The 37-year-old Datsyuk had 16 goals and 33 assists in 66 games this season.

“I’m thinking I go home after this season,” Datsyuk told the Free Press. “I may not be done with hockey, but — it is hard to say — I think I am done playing in the NHL.”

He has one year remaining on his deal with a cap hit of $7.5 million. Because the deal was signed after he turned 35, the Red Wings will be stuck with the cap hit regardless of whether Datsyuk retires, or where he plays.

"I feel very bad about it," Datsyuk told the Free Press.

Drafted 171st overall by Detroit 1998, Datsyuk is one of the truly great players of his generation. In 949 career regular season NHL games (all spent with the Detroit Red Wings) the three-time Selke and four-time Lady Byng Trophy winner has 314 goals, 602 assists for 916 points. He won Stanley Cups with Detroit in 2002 and 2008.

I think any team picking top 9-10 will be golden

Matthews
Laine
Poolparty
Dubois
Tkachuck
Juolevi
Nylander
Sergachev
Chychrun

Big question marks are Tkachuck because a lot of his points are secondary assists and Chychrun has taken a step back in his game this season (which is usually a bad sign for draft year players)

Playoff seeding is confirmed. Going to be watching SJS vs LA, STL vs CHI and NYR vs PIT for sure.

http://i.snag.gy/KLUIa.jpg

I think Detroit might have a decent chance to knock off TBL, TBL is missing Stamkos, Stralman and if I remember correctly Tyler Johnson and Kucherov were both recently injured as well. Resting them maybe? If Tampa doesn't have those guys on top of Stamkos and Stralman missing I think they will have a tough time.

I hate saying it as an NYR fan but NYR will have a hard time in this years playoffs as well. Their defenseman have slowed down significantly (Boyle, Girardi and Staal) along with McDonagh being injued and having an injury ridden season. Lundqvist hasn't looked outstanding towards the end of the season either but I think he will be ready come playoffs. That team has lived off their dmen and goaltending and now that they've slowed down a bit NYR could get exposed quite easily.

I agree with the quality of players within the canucks drafting area, but the choice is a lot more black and white 1-3. After that it opens up, Juolevi, Chychrun, Tkachuk, dubois, Nylander, Sergachev, maybe brown..

I think we don't need to worry about that too much. As much shit as we give GMJB for the trades and contracts given out, he has been doing a great job at the draft. Brock Boeser in particular has been playing like an elite level player in the NCAA this season.

This is what our cap situation looks like next season.

Cap hits in excess of ELC maximum of $0.925M (13):
D. Sedin ($7.000M)
H. Sedin ($7.000M)
R. Miller ($6.000M)
A. Edler ($5.000M)
A. Burrows ($4.500M)
C. Tanev ($4.450M)
B. Sutter ($4.375M)
L. Sbisa ($3.600M)
D. Dorsett ($2.650M)
J. Hansen ($2.500M)
C. Higgins ($2.500M)
J. Markstrom ($1.550M)
A. Rodin ($0.950M)

R. Luongo ($0.800M) [Salary Retention]

Total cap hit of $52.875M for 8 forwards, 3 defensemen, 2 goaltenders.

ELCs (14):
N. Tryamkin ($0.925M)
B. Hutton ($0.896M)
B. Horvat ($0.894M)
J. McCann ($0.894M)
J. Virtanen ($0.894M)
B. Gaunce ($0.863M)
J. Subban ($0.755M)
G. Brisebois ($0.734M SR)
J. Labate ($0.680M)
A. Sautner ($0.675M)
M. Stewart ($0.655M)
A. Cederholm ($0.645M)
C. Cassels ($0.631M)
E. McEneny ($0.585M)

Other players under contract (2):
A. Biega ($0.750M)
R. Bachman ($0.575M)

Players under contract: 26/45 skaters, 3/5 goaltenders

RFAs (9):
L. Vey ($1.000M QO)
S. Baertschi ($0.945M QO)
E. Etem ($0.893M QO)
A. Pedan ($0.832M QO)
M. Granlund ($0.806M QO)
L. Blomstrand ($0.697M QO)
J. Cannata ($0.660M QO)
A. Grenier ($0.644M QO)
M. Zalewski ($0.633M QO)

UFAs (9):
R. Vrbata
D. Hamhuis
B. Prust
M. Bartkowski
Y. Weber
R. Kenins
T. Fedun
A. Friesen
B. Jones

The salary cap for the 2016-2017 season is expected to be around $74M. That leaves the Canucks about $21M to fill 6 forward spots and 4 defense spots. Baertschi, Horvat, Hutton, and Tryamkin should be locks to make the roster (assuming they're not traded). Horvat, Hutton, and Tryamkin are all on ELCs.

We don't know yet what Baertschi's contract demands are, but he's due a raise from his current $0.900M. He's an RFA with arbitration rights coming off a 15-goal, 28-point season. Normally, I would say it should be a 2 x $1.500M-$2.000M bridge deal (based on past RFA comparables), but given it's Dim Jim, all bets are off.

So that would give us roughly $16.5M to fill 4 forward spots and 2 defense spots.

Buying out Higgins makes a lot more sense than buying out Burrows if we were to buy out one of them due to Burrows' front-loaded contract.

Buying out Burrows would save $2.000M in cap space in 16-17 and would cost us $1.000M in cap space in 17-18.

Buying out Higgins would save $1.667M in cap space in 16-17 and would cost us $0.833M in cap space in 17-18.

As Burrows has a substantially lower salary than cap hit next year, he could be a prime candidate for a trade with 50% salary retention ($2.250M cap hit, $1.500M salary) to a cap floor team. That would save us $2.250M in 16-17 with no cap penalty the following season and it would save Aquillini $0.5M.

If we buy out Higgins and trade Burrows w/ 50% retention, that would give us about $20.5M to fill 6 forward spots and 2 defense spots. Fill a few of those with guys like Etem, Granlund, Gaunce, and, hopefully, Matthews for cheap, sign Hamhuis for another season for $2-3M, and take a run at some high-priced help in the UFA market.

I would be shocked if he's not playing in the NHL next season.

He put up 22 points playing primarily on the 4th line, was 9th on the team amongst forwards in Corsi Relative, 5th amongst forwards in D-Zone faceoff starts. He's only a year removed from 18 goals ... from the 3rd line.

It's pretty obvious that he wasn't utilized to his full potential by WD. While guys like Grenier, Etem, Vey, etc. got 1st line duties with the Sedins when Hansen was injured, Burrows continued to be buried on the 4th line. Same could be said of Vrbata (and it destroyed Vrbata's trade value).

If he's bought out, he'll get a 1 x $1M contract pretty easily, IMO. Traded with retention is definitely a possibility, IMO.

BTW, Boeser heading back to the NCAA :fuuuuu:

We're basically left with three scenarios:

1) Demko decides to turn pro, we sign him.
2) Demko decides to re-commit to the NCAA, we trade him.
3) Demko decides to re-commit to the NCAA, we keep him.

Now, 2 seems preferable to 3 at face value, but I would imagine that his trade value will severely diminish once he makes the decision to return to school as potential trade partners will be in the same predicament we would be.

If Demko decides to return to school, would you be okay with receiving say a 5th round pick in exchange for his rights?

After 35 years in professional hockey, the last six seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, Melanson still knows where he needs to be next. And it is not here. It’s in Shediac, N.B., the lobster fishing town where he grew up, to spend time with his 84-year-old mother, Albertine. And in Montreal, where he’ll figure out with his fiancée, Lyne, what kind of life they’ll live and where.

At age 55, among the best in his highly-specialized profession, Melanson will be leaving the Canucks and could be leaving professional hockey, too.

Well, one of the worst kept Canucks secrets is now out.

Funny this, because it wasn’t that long ago that Linden said Willie and his staff were coming back.

Melanson’s contract is up at the end of the year, and for a variety of reasons, it’s expected he’ll be gone. Though, he will sit down with management and talk about a potential extension with the team but when the season is over.

Nothing is officially a done deal.

These things are always complex.

There’s just never a lot of openings so can Melanson can find another fit at what the Canucks pay? Sometimes for a coach like him, people make room.

But most have believed for some time, he’ll move East.

Part of it is personal, something head coach Willie Desjardins referenced when asked about it by Canucks.com reporter after the game.

Interesting that.

There was a long delay before Willie was made available tonight before what I would call an uncharacteristic question.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Canucks set something up to get ahead of a sensitive, potentially negative issue, after the report made it on HNIC.

The way I’ve heard it from several people, Alex Auld is a leading candidate to replace him, and it’s a job I think Auld would want, and one I’m sure he’d be good at.

There are players who would like this to happen.

Other candidates, under the premise Willie will be back, include Mike Valley, who is with Dallas and was essentially demoted into a development role. He has a close relationship with Willie.

And then there’s Eli Wilson, who worked with Willie in Medicine Hat, works privately with big names and should be back in the NHL.

Woodley also put this out:

That seems a long shot to me with Ranford’s contract status.

Melanson, obviously, would be a significant loss. He’s made every goalie that’s come through here better. Arguably, no coach has had more success developing goalies.

But he’s not irreplaceable.

Cloutier doesn’t get nearly enough credit for the work he’s put in with Markstrom. He has had more influence of the two on Markstrom’s development.

In fact, I’m unconvinced Markstrom and Melanson is a great fit. Now, Lack was a different story and probably would love Rollie to be in Carolina.

As far as Demko goes, Rollie wasn’t there at his first development camp.

Demko’s progression was always going to be mostly on Cloutier.

Cloutier would be at the top of the list, but, as Woodley said, it’s believed he’s happy where he is, apparently happy and making more as a development coach than some in the NHL.

Bill Ranford would be great...too bad he can't get out of his contract with LA

He's been a goaltending coach for 5 years (1 OHL, 4 x AHL). He had a hand in developing Lack and Markstrom, both have given him good reviews.

I'd prefer someone with a longer resume, though.

Francois Allaire never played professional hockey. He started as a goaltending coach at age 19 and, arguably, is the most influential goaltending coach ever, inventing the butterfly goaltending style.

His brother, Benoit Allaire, has been the goaltending coach for the New York Rangers for the past 12 years. Another guy who never played pro hockey.

Benning
Goal is to make playoffs while transitioning young players, praised Markstrom, Horvat, Bae, and Hutton.
Blamed injuries to experienced players, forcing young players into bigger roles
Asked about where he sees the team next year, kinda avoided the question, said younger players will have to get better if they want to be competitive
Praised Boeser, said he'd be a first line player, said if we end up with a top 3 pick we'll get another potential first line player
Believes you need a true #1 guy to win, believes when Edler is at his best he can be that guy
Looking to add college free agents, believes Philip Larsen will help PP and producing offence
Said Burr and Hammer are class acts, will figure out their futures next week ith coaches and management, will also decide on RFA's
Sat down with Demko and Boeser's parents & agents, Boeser going back to ND, trying to sign Demko
Looking to add piece in free agency in 22-28 age range that will help them compete, mentioned D and Wingers
Need good mix of young players and veterans
Leaves who plays in net up to coaches, thinks Markstrom and Miller both had good years
Went through 35 players this year, had a look at a lot of different guys
Believes Miller is important in Markstrom's development, believes goalies take longer to develop, extremely happy with goalies
Will take BPA, doesn't see defensemen in top 3
Demko competitive, angry about loss in frozen four, Jim will let him go through his decision making process with his parents an agent
Still talking with Rollie Melanson, he's dealing with family issues, his role might change but will try to keep him involved
If Demko signs, will be patient with development
Didn't rule out signing of Loui Eriksson
1st and 2nd year players are thinking about themselves, with staying in the NHL, by 3rd year easier to think about the team game w/ stability
Top-3 players in draft can step right into the NHL and contribute
Doesn't believe asset management has been a problem
Chris Higgins was a tough decision, great attitude in Utica, part of the reason they called him back up, will decide on his future next week
Sees Pedan as defenseman, come a long way since trade, hes going back to Utica
Worried about Gaunce at center originally because his skating wasn't great, now that's improved so center is an option

Willie
Challenging year, impressed with McCann and Virtanen, proved they could play at NHL level
Horvat wanted to win, tried to make something happen every shift
Accountability is key with young players, even coaches (singled out himself)
Avoided question about where Willie himself could improve, going back to young players
Tryamkin has upside, knows what he has to do over summer, glad he got time near the end of the season
Asked about offence from defensemen, said powerplay wasn't good enough to get D points, says they need to play an aggressive style
More excitement with the team with more young guys, players were extremely positive in the interviews
Leaders have input in direction of team, Sedin's in particular, young leaders also have opportunity to voice their opinions
Burrows is a quality person, one of the best views of the game, lot of respect for him
McCann has skill, and an edge (referenced pushing back against Getzlaf)

Jmac

There were a few  moments with Benning in that interview.

Paraphrasing - 'We went through 11 defensemen this season ... Out east, we would worry about who our 7th and 8th dmen were. Here, we need to worry about our 10th, 11th, and 12th dman.'

...

...

...

No shit ...

It's like he came in and said, "Everything the previous regime did was wrong, I know better." ... And is just now coming to the realization that maybe they did what they did for a reason ... Like sleep doctors, having a roster with good defensive depth, putting waiver-exempt players in the AHL (i.e. Tanev) for injury call-ups down the road even though they were better than some of the players on the NHL roster, etc.

Then he dances around Drance's questions regarding asset management ... Ugh ...

Plus Benning contradicted himself on multiple occassions.

Willie did okay in that interview. He's a good talker.

Maple Leafs lock up Rielly, Kadri to six-year deals

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenceman Morgan Rielly and forward Nazem Kadri to long-term deals on Wednesday.

Rielly signed a six-year, $5 million contract and Kadri inked a six-year, $4.5 million deal with the club.

Rielly led all Maple Leafs defencemen with a career-high 36 points while skating in all 82 games this year. Since entering the league in 2013-14, the 22-year-old has 19 goals and 73 assists in 236 regular season games.

Rielly was named to Team Canada’s roster for the 2016 IIHF World Championship earlier this week.

Kadri led the Maple Leafs with 17 goals and 28 assists in 76 games this season. In parts of seven NHL seasons, the 25-year-old has registered 81 goals and 116 assists and 207 penalty minutes in 326 regular season games.

The London, Ontario native was originally selected by the Maple Leafs with the seventh overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft

Canucks sign defenceman Troy Stecher - Vancouver Canucks - News (http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=878730&hootPostID=b26c76615482467871828cfe006a7fce)

Vancouver, B.C. –Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has signed defenceman Troy Stecher.

Stecher, 22, recently completed his junior season with the University of North Dakota, leading the Fighting Hawks to their eighth NCAA Championship while being named to the All-Tournament Team. A Second Team West All-American, Stecher led the Fighting Hawks defencemen in goals (8), assists (21), and points (29) this season. His career-high 29 points also ranked him sixth in scoring among NCAA blueliners. The 5-11, 191-pound defenceman has appeared in 119 NCAA games over three seasons for the University of North Dakota where he has collected 53 points (13-40-53).

Prior to his collegiate career, the Richmond, British Columbia native spent three seasons with the Penticton Vees of the BCHL. He helped the Vees capture the RBC National Junior A Championship in 2012, where he was named the Top Defenceman.

I didn't follow the Leafs much this year ... Mainly because they took all the fun out of watching them lose with their blatant offseason tank strategy ... And the Canucks were just as bad ...

And maybe Bouncing Bettys can correct me if I'm wrong ...

AFAIK, Babcock used Kadri as their shutdown guy this season and, while 45 points isn't stellar, it is respectable. He also had a very low shooting %, indicating some bad puck luck, too.

That said, I'd have 2 issues with this if I were a Leafs fan.
- He's become a rat. He dives, he takes cheap shots, and I can't stand his attitude.
- With Nylander, Marner, and possibly Matthews in the system, Kadri could very well find himself as an expensive bottom 6 centre very soon.

I agree with everything! At 4.5 mill for 6 years it makes him fairly affordable if it comes to moving him, I like the signing personally. He plays with an edge and does embellish now and then but still has respectable production.

Larkin should've went higher that year
Dal Colle won a Memorial Cup last season, put up 80+ points for the 3rd straight season, and scored 18 points in 9 playoff games this season.

He's had an excellent OHL career.

You usually won't know what you've really got until 3-7 years after the draft.

Alex Pietrangelo, for example, played 2 more seasons in the OHL after his draft and many people were questioning if he was worthy of his draft position.

Meanwhile, Zach Bogosian and Luke Schenn stepped immediately into the NHL. While Pietrangelo was in the OHL, many people considered Bogosian and Schenn to be better than him. Obviously, Pietrangelo has turned out far better than both. Some would argue that Bogosian and Schenn were both hurt from being rushed into the NHL.

Boeser will sign with the Canucks. He already said on the Team 1040 yesterday that he's not going to do the whole 4 year college thing. I think this is a case of him winning the cup in his freshman year and going back to see if he can do a repeat while developing as a better player.

If anything, this should entice Drake Caggiula to sign with Vancouver since Stecher is signed and Boeser should be signed by next season.

And JB didn't talk to Vrbata or offer to trade him earlier on and instead Vrbata screwed the club by only limited them to 3 teams that he wanted to be traded to, so now he gets to walk away as a free agent and the club gets nothing back.

Grabner is an NHL player. I think you were thinking more of Jensen.
As for the 3 that you highlighted, only Tryamkin look everyday NHL ready.
Virtanen wasn't bad defensively, but can use some work on his game.
McCann definately needs time to bulk up and get stronger and more experience.
If the Canucks weren't riddled with injuries this year, it would be hard for McCann and Virtanen to get as many games as they played this year.

Check out that puck movement on the SJ PP. None of this slow shit passing back and forth like the Nucks.
It's pretty much the same play except I think SJ has a right handed D man at the top of the umbrella.
Pass comes from the right half boards to the top D man, who quickly one times a pass to the right handed one time shot at the left faceoff dot.
Then everyone converges onto the net for the rebound.

These Sharks are for real. :notbad:

Perhaps they did learn their lesson from 2 years ago when they choked against the Kings.
They do look like a different team now. The coaches have this team playing their system well.

Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski are playing well so far.

The sharks were also the best road team in the regular season and the worst home team out of the playoff teams, by a large margin. So I would hold off before declaring this series over.

there seems to be this fascination among Vancouver's media that if the Canucks get 1st overall...they should trade it to the Yotes for OEL

I don't understand that. Auston figures to be a franchise cornerstone and potential superstar, i know we've never had a Norris stud but you don't trade 1st overall for that.
OEL is good but he's not worth a 1st overall. I'm not even sold that OEL is Norris quality.
Every time i see mentions of that trade it just blows my mind how stupid the media in this city can get.

Trivia time:

Who is/are the highest player(s) the Canucks have ever drafted?

Trevor Linden (1988), Peter Nedved (1990), and Daniel Sedin (1999) - all drafted 2nd overall

Has a 1st overall player ever worn a Canucks jersey? Dunno the answer to this one.

Mike Oxbig

We all know D.Sedin was a 1st pick overall, Burke made a deal with ATL not to draft the sedins

Jovo was a #1 overall pick traded for Bure

never drafted 1st overall before

but just looking at the draft history, god damn, we suck shit at drafting and we have quite possibly, the shittiest luck to go with that
it's so depressing to read through

OEL is a stud dman. But the idea to give up a franchise centre in Matthews when we have Henrik retiring soon, I rather keep Matthews.

And so far, it seems more likely that norris quality dman are drafted 2nd round and/or later rounds.

if by some miracle, we get 1st overall and Yotes want their hometown boy, I'd do it for OEL+their first+Dylan Strome or Max Domi or Anthony Duclair

at the very least, nothing less than OEL+Dylan Strome

If Phoenix has the 3rd overall pick... I would trade it in a heartbeat for OEL and their 1st. Yah Matthews could be great. But having a stud #1 dman and Puljujarvi is too tempting.

Not that Phoenix would ever do that kind of trade anyways.
