For Apes, its just that it was very very slow and when something happened it seemed kind of corny like they were forcing you to go "omg this is a sad/amazing moment" but why is it? you didnt get that proper build-up which would give you an emotional attachment to characters or situations and that first hour was dragging so much i just decided "forget this"

the first apes in the latest trilogy was my fav, the 2nd wasnt bad pretty good even, the 3rd is like wtf???

No offense dude but thats a pretty flawed rating system lol...... You might as well stop giving movies you review a number and just write 2 sentences about what you thought of the movie.

Or if you're going to give a number just give it at 6/10 B movie.

Going in style: 2/10

Boring movie and wasn't funny at all. surprised imdb and rotten gave it a decent rating.

The asian in me will never make me walk out of a movie no matter how shitty it is. I paid for that shit.

no one who rated fast n furious 10/10 means its as good or oscar worthy as i dunno gladiator everyone should realize that

Exactly! See my Kong review for example. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was still an awful movie 4/10 at best. I don't think this is too confusing...

Also Mad Max and Edge of Tomorrow weren't "Oscar Worthy" but were still 8 to 10/10 movies. Because they aren't stupid or insulting. They were created with a vision in mind, to make a specific form of art. They weren't made SOLELY to sell tickets to people who "shut off their brains" (not that most people have to) and enjoy crappy CG and fake explosions.

Spiderman: Homecoming

6.5/10

A little disappointed, the movie dragged on a bit and there wasn't a real sense of high stakes.

Tom Holland and Micheal Keaton were fantastic though!

The Girl With All The Gifts 8/10 - Loved it! 28 Days Later meets Children of Men. It had action, horror, thriller, drama and cheeky moments. Pretty gory and fucking grim at times as well. Not for animal lovers. Lol! Only compliant was the cheesy CGI that plagues movies these days but it can be overlooked easily. Great story and idea surrounding the zombie genre. British flavor made it better and move believable. I'd almost rate it higher. A great watch from start to finish. Total sleeper hit.

^ wow that movie was a long time ago. It was a legit movie, too bad it didn't get more exposure. I did like the ending and yes, totally a sleeper hit.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

8/10

I've been waiting for this movie for a while. I really like the director, Luc Besson, and his previous works. It's very reminiscent of the Fifth Element with the makeup, sets, costumes, cheesiness and humor peppered throughout the film. The cast was well-chosen. The leads did a great job in their roles, and the supporting cast was entertaining. Although, it could have used less Rihanna, I thought it was a fantastic space opera that I will be viewing multiple times.

Rewatched War of the Apes
Well I guess I should say I watched it all for the first time lol, cousins dragged me to it

The part where I walked out on is still boring af and two of my cousins fell asleep, but sticking thru it and watching the rest of the movie it actually ended up pretty good (I was bored af today anyhow)

5/10

Dunkirk. 9/10. The way the narrative was presented was jumpy, but it told it in a powerful way with as few words as possible. Fantastic film this side of Saving Private Ryan.

I didn't have a choice I'm on holiday with my cousins and they didn't get to see it and dragged me to it lol

Dunkirk 8/10 short story from many viewpoints loved it visually

radioman 07-23-2017 05:09 PM

I'm honestly baffled how you sat through dunkirk but couldn't sit through apes.

Dunkirk was great. Not Nolans best but fantastic visuals. Watched it in 70mm in Langley.

StylinRed 07-23-2017 08:46 PM

Apes doesn't hold ur attention it insults it, in the middle stint of the film anyway

Dunkirk is constantly asking for your attention

SkinnyPupp 07-24-2017 04:39 AM

War of the Planet of the Apes

6/10

It was a fine action experience. I find it interesting that critics raved about how thought provking it was, while I thought it was heavy handed with the messaging and kind of up its own ass. Actually there were times where serious moments were taking place that I had to stifle laughter.

I did think it was an amazingly well directed action movie, and I loved the scenery as it reminded me of home (I haven't been back to Canada in 10 years so it's at the point where it's nostalgic for me now!).

I am actually quite interested in where they go with the Nova character. If the next movie is based around her, I will be totally checking it out.

Shot Caller 8/10

Great movie and didn't play out how I thought it was going to play out at all, one of the best prison movies I have seen in years and very realistic as well.

6o4__boi 07-26-2017 07:57 AM

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back

4/10

First was definitely better

StylinRed 07-28-2017 03:33 AM

Valerian

not bad, if u like luc bessons sci-fi films you wont be too disappointed, its no fifth element (same style of sci-fi) but not bad 5.5/10

AzNightmare 07-29-2017 01:15 AM

Hmm....

Dunkirk. If I have to be honest, very disappointed. The movie wasn't bad I guess, but if I were to say enjoyment level, maybe a 4/10. The narrative and pacing didn't work for me at all.. IMO, there wasn't enough set up before things happened. I got lost and disconnected with the characters. I just didn't get it. I don't remember when was the last time I thought a movie was too long 1 hour in.

Maybe if this movie wasn't directed by Nolan, my expectations wouldn't have been as high so I wouldn't have judged it as hard. But none the less, I wasn't that entertained and I couldn't wait to walk out once the credits rolled.

drunkhomer 07-29-2017 11:12 AM

Wonder Woman 8/10

Dunkirk in IMAX 9.5/10

E.D.C.5 07-29-2017 11:06 PM

Dunkirk.

I would give it a 7-7.5/10 mainly because of the cinematography. The camera angles, and scenes were really done well? I really enjoyed the flying scenes. A LOT but that's just me. I do kinda agree with AzNightmare regarding the scene jumping and character disconnection. Sometimes I would be a little confused.
