Can you confirm that the glow in the dark coating makes the denim feel weird, incubus?

incubus 01-22-2012 02:07 PM

Yea it does have this stiff gritty feeling to it but not as bad as they say it is, which I'm sure will go away after I wear them out

I know you guys have been mostly talking about raw denim, but would like some insight on your opinions.

I usually wear Levi's but I am looking at picking up a new pair of jeans. Something nicer than Levi's. A pair that you could wear with dress shirt/tie. Dark indigo of course.

Would raw denim be out of the question for this due to the fading (wiskers/honeycombs), or should I be looking at pre washed denim? i.e. 7s.

Thanks

MindBomber 01-22-2012 02:42 PM

There's no reason raw denim would be out of the question.

Fades aren't something that happen overnight, it often takes a year or more of daily wear for them to set in. I've been wearing my Aika Jin pair daily for 9 months, they have never been washed, I only have a bit of whiskering behind the knees and are otherwise still solid indigo.

I always go with Sevens if I'm spiffing up a bit..
As much as I love my raw denim, I wouldn't wear one with a dress shirt and tie. The indigo on raw denim rubs off like crazy.

yeah, for spiffing up, even the fits from rock & republic or william rast aren't that bad...i'd still stay away from true religion though

wouldn't say so, no. you can try washing them regularly as this causes the indigo to bleed evenly on the jeans so fades can't happen

don't quote me on this though. i know tips to make fades happen nicely, not so much to make them not happen

if you're looking to get denim but want a more professional/office type look, I'd recommend jeans from Zara. I had my doubts about them at first, but they turned out great for me. not only are they waxed, they're as comfortable as can be(if wax is a problem for you, just throw them in the wash before wearing them). though they may not be a true selvage, they still stretch and crease according to your legs. they start out kinda tight, but its probably a good thing since it stretches well. I threw mine in the washing machine a few weeks back, and it actually faded a bit. I think it looks great, and it still retains that office look I bought it for. a pseudo-raw selvage if you will. the only thing you might have a problem with is the color. it's a really dark navy and has grayish fades. but then again, this was just my pair that turned out like that.
hopefully they still carry this, I'm hoping to get another one...

Anyone know where to buy raw denim jackets? Preferably in store.

G 01-23-2012 10:29 AM

So I called Paul's boutique to find out what the have on sale. It's insane. ( I called cause it would take me like 1 hr transit to get there :okay:)

Left hand twill for 99, elephant for 100 or 120( forgot) momotaro collab for 120(or 140, forgot). He also said edwins are marked down a lot too, around 130-150 from 250.

Cheers!

As soon as I read your post I got ready to go there too and called them just to make sure. They only have Black Power Stretch, Grey Stretch, and Natural Indigos in Skinny Guys. And the smallest size they have in NF x Momo is 32.

:okay:

G 01-23-2012 11:01 AM

woob 01-23-2012 08:16 PM

^ Assuming your APCs are selvedge, where do you go to get them hemmed?

Energy 01-23-2012 08:36 PM

You can get APCs hemmed anywhere because they don't have chainstitched hems.

PJ 01-23-2012 10:26 PM

Gonna call Paul's boutique tomorrow to see if there's any 31's left in the sale.
Need to decide if the trip out to Surrey is worth it.

Anyone else want a price or size check?

G 01-23-2012 10:50 PM

^I was going to do the exact thing. Paul's meet?
