OK I was at the game tonight and I'm a season ticket holder wait list member and it's pretty fucking obvious we are still not an elite team and are not even NEAR being one. So if the canucks expect me to pay almost $10K for season tickets they'd better improve fast.

Granted it wasn't the A team, but Demitra looked very slow and the system was still bad. Edmonton always played puck possession and we always played dump and chase. IMO the coach needs to go. I was happy with the propects though. The second goal was nice.

Also, I'm 100% for trading Luongo for a 1st line center. History has shown that a team can win the Cup with a decent or hot young goalie (aka Schenider). See Carolina in 2006, Tampa, etc. etc. As good as Luongo is, he is never gonna score. Use him as an asset to finally get us a premier player please.

And Mitchell BETTER get the Captaincy.

We HAD 2 of the premier forwards in the league for shits sake, for several years in a row. When will people finally learn that offense doesn't mean anything when you have shit-for-goalie?

Not comparing Schneider to Cloutier, but statistically you can't expect a rookie goalie to carry you very far.

AX.Deadpool 09-23-2008 11:25 PM

note: young goalies do not win the cup. FRESH, talented goalies with good teams win cups

Example, carolina, replacing gerber in the playoffs with a fresh goaltender.
another example is Roloson, when he was acquired by the oilers. He had sat
most of the season.

Now how far do you honestly think we can go with schneider and sanford in net for us?

Noir 09-24-2008 12:13 AM

^^^ I understand his pain though. 10k, you want to see something special, like pavel bure :eek2: kind of hockey. Not a grinding 3 goals or less kind of games. Especially as 10k is huge money to some people.

I haven't seen any preseason games, but..

We do sort of play puck possession.. only when the Sedins are on the ice. I mean, you could get Pyatt or our pluggers to carry it in over the blueline, but the other team's defense would be laughing while the odd man rush goes the other way.

IMO Vignault had two choices with last yrs lineup 1) not get scored on 2) lose

I'm curious.. why does BC Ferries have prime real estate advertising along the boards in front of the Canucks bench?

What is the point of them advertising?

It's like having ICBC advertise there or something. It's a service people have to pay for. I don't think they are trying to get tourists or something to take BC Ferries, I mean, it's a boat that takes you from point A to point B.

I am really curious as to how much that advertisement costs. What a waste of money IMO.

haha who knows. Like Honda said maybe some partnership. BC Ferries did donate that big horn under the screen to GM Place afterall. meh

Canucks are 2-0!! Somewhere you know some people are already on thinking the cup is ours.

SO ANGRY AT MOORE'S COMMERCIALS!!!

Between the one with the bride looking at her stupid new mistake (husband) one an the Ryan Walter getting dressed up by that ugly c-lai and being all fake one I'm going fucking nuts!! This is going to go on all season too!!!

Who knew we had it so good in the Canadian Tire/Tim Horton's days?!?!?!

This *HAS* to stop. It annoys me almost as much as Spence Diamonds radio commercials.

Hondaracer 09-24-2008 07:24 AM

if you dont like the product on the ice, no one is forcing you to renew your seasons tickets, i'm sure the 5000 people waiting for them would be more then happy to take them off your hands

stuff99 09-24-2008 08:42 AM

I would hate to see Ohlund leave

bc ferries is a crown corp. they have to spend to make it look as if they're not raking in huge profits.

plus, it promotes tourism in the province ;) ;)

I expect Gillis will want to see how Mattie performs for at least part of the season.... he really hasn't been the same since his eye injury. Maybe the hope is that with the rest of the defense healthy, he won't have to ice as many minutes and might start to show some of his old form again.

trdees 09-24-2008 09:49 AM

i have a feeling gilis is trying to get rid of all the original players.... just a gut feeling

You make it sound like you're doing them a favour. :p

For teams that have less of a fan base, maybe you could dangle this threat, but it's just silly when you're talking about the Canucks, because they couldn't care less if you don't pay $10K for season tickets because there are hundreds or thousands of others that will.

Exacltly, you think you have it bad. Look at TO and they still sell out hahaha

AzNightmare 09-24-2008 10:38 AM

I like how RTS has brought us all back to reality.
The prospects are good, but Canucks are nowhere an Elite team.
Demitra did seem slow.

And Canucks still don't have a player that can rush up and diddle daddle through the defense and snap in a hard shot. Last time I saw that from Canucks was from the old Nazzy. I wished Daniel could do that but that's not his style. If only Canucks got a player where goalies would be nervous when they had the puck...

Anyway, glad they are up 2-0 so far. I personally think Sanford's mask looks great.

I didn't get to fully watch both games, so how did the Sedin's do without each other?

Selanne_200 09-24-2008 11:41 AM

Well Demitra isn't exactly the most durable player you'll find. There's no reason for him to get injured in a pre-season game and I'm sure he's jut taking it easy for the pre-season.

rsx 09-24-2008 11:49 AM

I hope you guys aren't judging the team/players during preseason games.

Hondaracer 09-24-2008 12:54 PM

^ why not? any potential prospects will be playing as hard if not harder during the preseason then the regular

ChaKo 09-24-2008 01:10 PM

yeah, the prospects, as in players that are not officially part of the team just yet. the bulk of them aren't gunna be the ones that represent us during the regular season.

I'm sure too, but I live in reality and the reality is that a couple losing seasons is going to dip the Canucks into massive red ink again. You have to remember that during the late 90's and early 2000's we did not sell out home games and there was even talk of selling and moving the team.

Bottom line is that hockey is a business and when the product is bad you are going to lose customers.

Don't get me wrong, I am a Canucks fan, but I'd like to see us get past the second round sometime this decade and the fan base being homers is not going to help with that.

Hondaracer 09-24-2008 02:36 PM

^ most of the fan base is corporate at this point, and seeing as the Canucks are really the only ticket it town, even in losing seaons we arent going to be losing a fan-base, it's just too strong of a following at this point

the_rickster 09-24-2008 02:54 PM

as long as its cool to be seen at a canucks game, they will sell out.

case in point: toronto maple leafs
