Weren't they suppose to create a schedule so each team gets to face the other 29 teams at least once per season?

seriously, how can it be fair at all when each team plays other teams a different amount of times including none at all

doubledouble 07-17-2008 12:00 PM

nope it changed so more divisional rivalvrys will happen. STUPID RULE IMO. I want to see OVECHKIN in vancouver

RiceIntegraRS 07-17-2008 12:11 PM

^also makes it so only certain amount of teams from each division can make it into the playoffs. If they made the schedule more fairly, Every team from the NorthWest Division would make the playoffs, or atleast 4 out of the 5. Cause all we are doing are beating other teams from other division and then winning half then losing half to teams in our own division. While the other teams from other divisions feast on there bottom feeding cousins.

shawn79 07-17-2008 12:13 PM

wtf how come we only get to see half the south east without koly and ovechkin its crap ugh:

im sure they do but not all of them will come to play here, the nucks will be playing them in their rink. so next year we'll see teams that arent making the trek here this year

the_rickster 07-17-2008 02:36 PM

the '09-'10 season schedule will have a completely different formula

They did... just not all of them will be at home.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2008/...nhl_schedules/

"NEW YORK -- All six Canadian NHL teams will play each other home and away next season for the first time since before the lockout."

...

"The 1,230-game schedule will see teams play six divisional games, four games against the rest of the teams in their conference and 18 non-conference games. The 30 NHL teams all play each other at least once."

bossxx 07-17-2008 06:58 PM

It's definately a huge improvement from last season.

lol are u kidding me? its not all about sundin, there are many ways to get players IE Trades. Im not at all worried about this season as i honestly think we have improved. Sure fighting and grit was not our #1 concern but it wasn't so long ago everyone was calling the canucks the weakest team in the league with NO ONE to protect our assets, IE Luongo. I think with Darcy, people will think twice about crashing into luongo. The only thing im pissed about is not signing Naslund or even offering him a contract. He said many times he'd come back cheap (3mill or so). If we sign sundin, it would be a huge plus but imagine having a line of Naslund Sundin and Demitra.

Either way, I think we'll be fine.

AzNightmare 07-18-2008 09:24 AM

I have a feeling if Nazzy signed again, Canucks wouldn't have Demitra right now. Wouldn't that go over the cap limit assuming Sundin signs?
I don't think Gillis really has a backup plan if Sundin doesn't sign. I'm not sure who's even available anymore. And if he eventually trade, Canucks will just be losing good players for good players instead of gaining good players for "free". And then he will have all that money remaining.

As the team right now, I think it's an improvement from last year, but I wouldn't say huge improvement yet. Right now, everyone's hyping up Demitra and Bernier. Only after I see a big star player like Sundin to wrap it up, I will consider it a huge improvement.

cspec 07-18-2008 09:25 AM

yeah, i really hope sundin signs.... seems like he's the only hope that this team has

naslund signed in new york for the same terms as demitra signed here. so if we renewed naslund's deal instead of taking demitra, we'd be in the same position salary wise.

if sundin doesn't sign, gillis will start shopping for trades. last night during an interview he said he's been approached by a number of teams who are at or over the cap and want to make a deal that will bring them below the cap ceiling. in those situations, the team with cap space (canucks) usually get the better deal.

For a cup, No. But for another decent/mediocre season, then yes, he is our only hope.

the_rickster 07-18-2008 10:14 AM

sundin is NOT our only hope. stop that bullshit now.

murd0c 07-18-2008 10:35 AM

I meant if Canucks took both Nazzy and Demitra, that would make Canucks unable to take a chance with Sundin. I believe Gillis either wanted Naslund + Sundin or Demitra + Sundin. So that's what I meant by if canucks had nazzy now, they wouldn't have demitra. (Gillis would still be waiting for Sundin and not pursue Demitra)

I didn't know about the interview. Who's available at the moment? Any trade rumors?

Razor Ramon HG 07-18-2008 02:36 PM

Well, I don't think either way Gillis should've offered 20M over 2 years. If Sundin even decides to come play here, money would most likely have nothing to do with it.

iwantaskyline 07-18-2008 03:25 PM

Trade Bieksa for Vermette!!!!!!!

absolutely. it was one or the other, and since vancouver didnt even talk to naslund, it was obvious that they had a strategy.

he didnt name names and there are no rumors in the media because the entire city is banking on sundin. if you really want to know who's available, look at up to date cap numbers.
calgary, anaheim, philadelphia and chicago are all over the cap with players still unsigned (anahiem has 10!). pick a player from any of those teams. boston has six unsigned players with less than 2m in cap space, dallas has 8 unsigned with 3m to spare, detroit has 10 with around 4m to spare, edmonton has a few players unsigned with 2m to spare, but they also have 14 players under long term deals. there's eight tams right there...so if you want to know who's available, there's a starting point... i bet you any or all of them all willing to deal.

Hi_Im_Mike 07-18-2008 08:02 PM

This might sound stupid but if those teams don't sign those players that aren't sign. When will they be available to pick up off waiver? Is there a certain amount of time to wait before they can be put on waivers? That's like free players...
