It should be reported shortly.

CKNW Sports has learned the Vancouver Canucks have placed forward Kyle Wellwood on waivers

the_rickster 10-17-2008 08:39 AM

does anyone think they might be making a more dramatic move?

syee 10-17-2008 08:42 AM

Also on TSN (scroll to end - it mentions Wellwood being put on waivers

fuck, spac should put you on payroll. they JUST reported it.

Hondaracer 10-17-2008 10:45 AM

^ if you get sportsnet updates to your phone they almost always send out a text releasing the news like 10-15 minutes before other sources report it

When i woke up to see it on my phone i couldnt help but think it's part of a bigger move

haha guilty as charged. I did as well, his sill is undeniable but he really had no spot on our team and he doesn't take conditioning seriously. Wasn't he quoted once saying something like "Wayne Gretzky never worked out why should I?". Ah wells whatevers

I think its just that Wellwood was the odd man out and although his conditioning has improved he's still nowhere near ideal shape, has offensive talent but lacks on ice work ethic. With Nycholat coming off IR and Bieska just day to day and not on IR, Canucks where over the roster limit.

stuff99 10-17-2008 10:58 AM

Is tonight's game in HD?

Tim Budong 10-17-2008 11:20 AM

i hope its in HD
but yea..fatboy didnt really fit on this team anywhere,
fatboy is nothing without sundin...
hahaha

AzNightmare 10-17-2008 11:36 AM

I don't believe it is. Apparently it is for the locals in Buffalo though.

I checked yesterday and they are playing the Leafs game tomorrow in HD, bet you it will be blocked out here too.

68style 10-17-2008 12:02 PM

Yah, waive him, he was 2 for 2 in the shootout in pre-season, both effortless goals, averaged more than 1ppg and the 1 game he played in Washington, stuck with losers like Hordichuk and Johnson on the 4th line, he had the only legitimate chance for the Canucks after Edler scored when he dangled in between the Washington defence, went in alone and just missed.

Man the Canucks piss me off SO MUCH sometimes. Yah he's a bit out of shape, but he's got way better hands, speed and scoring talent than, say, oh, I dunno... PYATT. You can make someone lose weight and get in better shape. You can't make someone a natural scorer.

yea thats what they were saying on the radio, if on Sunday bieksa returns they will be over the roster limit so they had to send somone down, and both O'brien and Davison as well as Nycholat showed more promise and ability then Wellwood so they would rather keep the defensive depth in the press box rather then Wellwood

AzNightmare 10-17-2008 01:06 PM

That kinda sucks for Wellwood. Considering he did improve his fitness level must mean he was trying to some extent. Seems like Pyatt's lucky he's being protected by Demitra right now. Since Demitra wants him on his line when everyone knows Pyatt's a big pylon out there. Then again, I don't know what's AV's opinion on Pyatt. If demitra didn't want pyatt on his line, where would AV have put pyatt?

hi5-ive 10-17-2008 01:17 PM

i hope they call up Jason Krog.

Derek_N84 10-17-2008 01:34 PM

Too bad, I really like Wellwood ...I think he would be great if they just gave him a chance at that second line with Pavol and Mason. It'll be a shame when some other team picks him up and he develops even more.
