from their website about the app features

Counts the IP traffic on GSM/GPRS/EDGE network in byte.

so if you have 3g, this isn't going to be accurate.

im not sure if you can do it yourself, you might need the other person you bought it from to do that for security reasons.

cspec 04-10-2009 02:49 PM

You definitely have to get the person who bought it to unhook it.

Anyone regret going for the BB Bold - I have the Javelin 8900 too and I have to say the screen is a bit sharper (albeit)smaller, better battery life, faster EDGE and much better camera. I still have the Bold and the extra wide screen makes it hard to decide which one to sell...

Traveling less for business now makes me wonder if Ill get much mileage off tethering Javelin vs Bold - sending email-MSN-ing isn't huge deal breaker anyhow

jeff19 04-11-2009 10:41 PM

i regretted switching from bold to javelin lol. it was defintely more pocketable, but the smaller screen, worse sound quality just didnt cut it for me. the diff in screen quality isnt that noticable anyhow. id sell the javelin cuz theres a new 3g version of it coming out pretty soon.

not at all regretting my bold. Yeah it's a bit bulky, but it first so much better in my hand than all the other slim-width phones have. Texting no longer crunches up my hand(s), and the multifunctionality is epic.

I have an iPod touch and one of the reasons I shyed away from the iPhone was because of the lack of tactile interactions. Egads this thing is awesome. :D Plus I can go all patriotic when my students ask me why I didn't buy a KDM/JDM phone.

cspec 04-12-2009 12:34 AM

No I think the Bold is still the best Blackberry.
Nothing is really better on the curve except the camera.

The build quality is obviously worse on the 8900. The Bold's battery life isn't that bad either, of course you would have to expect differences between 3G power usage versus 2G.

But ultimately, bad camera? Well that can be resolved by an actual camera.
But no 3G? You can't resolve that.

Alby 04-12-2009 12:36 AM

anyone did a speed test on EDGE? i average about 100kb/s on the bold 3G.

he has to go to rogers bis and release the pin from there.
additionally he has to disassociate the bold from rogers by calling in.

he will have to call in, otherwise rogers may suspect that you stole the phone off a guy.

Hmm, my girlfriend bought a Curve 8900 from Phonemore and it won't let her register on it on Fido BIS...

Should I tell Phonemore to call in? Not too sure what to do...

Register from the device.

Alby 04-12-2009 01:35 PM

i assume she has BB data plan with Fido?

if so,

options > advanced options > host routing table > bb button > register now.

cspec 04-12-2009 02:35 PM

Thanks guys, just had Phonemore guys do it. Very excellent service.

Fair enough - I do care about snapping pics everywhere I go so the 8900 has a huge up on the Bold, it a fair bit more discreet vs an actual camera. Im stil undecided which one to sell though, damn... why did the Bold have to ship with a nonAF camera!

cspec 04-12-2009 08:58 PM

Lol, probably because they leave space to sell a Bold with upgraded features for an even higher pricetag!

Feint* 04-12-2009 09:54 PM

I know! Damn marketing techniques to keep us upgrading...

Anyone got Berryannoying btw... I can't seem to dig it up anywhere from Google and torrent sites w/o downloading a 2gb+ BB Pack...

is there a link to download this? Or do you have to buy it?

Alby 04-13-2009 12:48 AM

you have to buy it. jc designs at gadgetbeans create really great themes.

Feint* 04-13-2009 01:08 AM

I must be a giant nub, where do I put the Berryannoying folder? alx/cod files doesn't open in place to the Camera-application like a Icon contrary to what ppl are saying on the web, what am I missing?

Feint* 04-13-2009 01:16 AM

Nevermind

For those of you lost like me use the Desktop Manager - Add/Remove application - unzip the Berryannoying (or typical AIX/COD files into folder) and add it that way. I'm far too used to drag/drop SE phones :D

Anyone tried Tethering?

I'm tempted by some light browsing and MSNing when wireless isn't available, but I'm worried about additional data charges or going over my limit.

I seem to remember Rogers saying they'll send you a text when you're at 80% of your data limit, but I'm worried about extra charges or going over.

Feint* 04-13-2009 07:59 PM

Hey Graeme I just did tethering speed test last evening b/w Javelin vs Bold. I have 500MB and have rarely gone over 200MB as BB tends to optimize data trsf - not sure when you use it as modem how fast it goes over. I am under impression there's a limit you can only go over by so much though.

If you're curious about speed wise:
Download 3G averaged to about - 1.6mb/sec vs 0.6 mb/sec on 8900 Javelin (For comparison sake - Shaw Extreme (approx) 16mb/sec)
Upload is 0.5mb/sec on 3G Bold and 0.2-0.3 on Javelin EDGE

Both quite tolerable and still better than nothing when you're on the road...decent alternative to $50 USB-Internet-Stick!

ricerr 04-14-2009 10:04 PM

hey i disassembled my bold to change the track ball but when i got to the stage to unclip the retainer that is holding the trackball i didnt have a tool small enough to get under and unclip it, what did u bold users use
