volchenkov is somebody gillis should seriously consider about. Erhoff needs somebody to protect the back end for him to lead offensive rush up the ice.

LUUUUUUUU 05-17-2010 11:51 PM

hamhuis, volchenkov, or foster would be awesome

dim_sum 05-18-2010 01:08 AM

i heard he wants somewhere in teh 5mill range... the guy is a beast though... most blocked shots by a dman or something

edit: how mcuh do you guys think hamhuis will get?

No.

That would be breaking tradition.

3.75-4.25 hamhuis

4.75-6 volchenkov

LUUUUUUUU 05-18-2010 01:47 AM

imagine if we had volchenkov and ryan johnson on a PK
no shots would even get through to luu lol

DanHibiki 05-18-2010 01:54 AM

god damn expensive UFAs.

I hope we somehow get another awesome young dman to step up like the way Edler did.

WANT

411ken 05-18-2010 05:39 AM

Why in the world would we pay 5-6 mil for Volchenkov? Has he hit the 20pt mark yet?

Depends on the player, Willie Mitchell really wanted to come here and he's from here. Brendon Morrison was totally jacked when he heard he got traded here from the devils. For some players it's something they would love not something they'd steer clear of, it depends on the guy.

411ken 05-18-2010 07:33 AM

^Exactly. It's great to play for the "hometown".. it'll be closer to family/friends/etc and still get paid the big bucks... what more do you want

- You get scrutinized for everything you do
- You can't go out and "live life" without someone in your face asking for autographs, etc. all the time
- You pay higher taxes here than in most other cities in the States
- Your cost of living is much higher here

Gumby 05-18-2010 08:08 AM

-We don't have the best nightlife, but it sure beats going to Minnesota, for example.
-We have a cool locker room?
-We're a "first class" organization?

Greenstoner 05-18-2010 08:22 AM

^ and we have Roxy

I'm sorry but for the first 2, doesn't that happen to EVERY well known/good player?

and for the rest, who gives a shit, they make millions each year.

411ken 05-18-2010 08:45 AM

And I'd rather get Hamhuis for about 3.5 - 4.0 or whatever and add someone like Holmstrom for 2.75m or 3 then add another big D somehow.

In most hockey cities in the States (aside from traditional hockey markets like Philly, Chicago, New York), you're pretty much anonymous. If you happen to play in the Sun Belt, you get sunshine 320+ days per year.

$2 million in Vancouver can get you a decent sized condo, while $2 million in the States can get you a pretty decent-sized house. And hockey players aren't stupid in that they know they aren't going to be playing hockey at their peak capacity for more than 5-10 years. Several hundred thousand dollars difference in taxes may not seem significant to you, but it can be if a player is smart and thinking about his life after hockey.

AzNightmare 05-18-2010 08:54 AM

:lol

Who the hell even complains about living cost money when you're a pro athlete, besides Kane.

Not going to happen. We have about $11M in Cap space left and we have about 9-11 UFA that we need to fill. At most we can sign is one $3-4 guy and have pluggers for the rest of the line up. Don't forget the RFAs that will expect a raise as well.

Which is why I'm not overly excited or optimistic about this team next year as it will be pretty much the same for the next couple of years.

Maybe if you're an AHL/fringe NHL player but any decent player will make enough money during their playing career to last them a lifetime.

Well Grabner + Hodgson (possibly Schroeder) are likely to make the big team so that potentially fills out 3 roster spots.

We're definitely going to need to sign a good d-man to replace Willie. I hope we can re-sign SOB because he played well for us down the stretch and showed (during the last interview) that he likes it in Vancouver and really wants to stay.

Please no more old farts.

411ken 05-18-2010 01:19 PM

I think ppl are forgetting that there's still trades possibility lol.
Here's a link for all the RFA/UFA this year. http://www.nhlnumbers.com/freeagents...none&type=none

Just saw that Marc Staal is an RFA. Can we trade Bieksa + something for him lol. Same for Coburn haha.

Good list and lots of possibilities.. can't wait for the off season now
