Car Video Camera | Vehicle Black Box Camera | GPS Data Logger | G-Force Sensor

found a tutorial for hardwiring with a similar hardwire kit you can get for the dr400g. it's suppose to prevent the camera from completely draining the battery

Don't really want to mess with the fuse box lol, I think I'm just going to splice it to my cig lighter wires. Vampire tap or solder/heatshrink =D

Birds are fucking trolls - YouTube

Using the crappier VGA resolution because I only had the 2gb blackberry sandisk micro SD on me. The video is quite poor in VGA mode.

Highly suggest turning down the volume, it's all distorted and simply awful.

- Time to install the darn thing

Finally got to installing the camera. Not as discrete as I would have hoped but it's my only option if I want centered and clear recordings.

Tucked the wires in the headliner and then traveled down the A pillar and hid the wires in the passenger foot well. Wish I had a 12 volt outlet there but unfortunately it's in centre console above the gear shifter. I guess if I park in a shady looking place I'll unplug it and drop the charger in between the seat and centre console and remove the camera from the base.

Other than that the Camera works great and thanks again to ForbiddenX.

I'm in the same boat as well. If I want it centred its in the middle of nowhere.

NLY 02-04-2012 05:55 PM

Finding the right spot is trial and error?

I'd imagine you'd mount the camera first and then review the footage to determine if you need to relocate the camera.

sleepywheel 02-04-2012 06:17 PM

That's a problem with the sticky that's on the mounting base of the unit. It sticks really well and I doubt that removing it would be easy. I'd like to be able to move it from one vehicle to another so I thought I'd try velcro. Unfortunately velcro doesn't hold it solid in place very well and allows the camera to move around. Anyone have any ideas?

My only other option was maybe sticking it to the plastic rearview mirror unit and have it off centre. I'm fairly sure that with the wide angel lens I'd have the side of the cover obstructing the view. Didn't really want to risk sticking it to the plastic and having a hard time removing it if the view wasn't clear so I just stuck with the set up in the photo.

Sort of. The only trial an error would be getting the lens in the middle of the windscreen. You don't really need to check the footage since you can eyeball it as you install it. First try I lightly placed it in the position where i thought was the middle but it was a little off so i repositioned it. Had to give it a good tug to get it off even though I barely pressed it into the glass. The adjustment that need video review was the camera position based on swivel. So when I first took it out for a test run I moved the position up and down to see how it looked. Thought I set it too high but turned out it should have been higher to show less dash and more car like that sick Maserati Quattroporte.

Gh0stRider 02-04-2012 08:13 PM

aim it higher. you dont need your dash in the video

TOS'd 02-04-2012 08:18 PM

You can hook up the blackvue to a screen and it will show the live feed. I hooked up my portable dvd player to the blackvue, so I could then position it in car and see the output view all together.

My quick wire tuck and where i chose to install it. Didn't wire it to my fuse box yet, wanted someone else to do it first because I'm not too good with electrical and don't want to ruin my only powercord.

iam_dan 02-05-2012 09:24 PM

these DR400Gs you guys have are really high quality.
i have one from a long time ago, and it isn't clear enough to show the license plates.

im so jelly.
i think i will pick up a DR400G too...:concentrate:

optiblue 02-05-2012 09:56 PM

Good stuff! Everyone should get themselves some form of a recorder :) watch, the next model will be a 8MP camera that can pick up dead mosquitoes on the plates lol!

Do you mind posting a sample of the video? If it's as good off center as it is on center then maybe I should relocate mine to somewhere more discrete.
