I remember Foodie Goodie btw. Ironically, I had it way more often in Calgary compared to here. I probably went to the Richmond location twice at most before it shut down for good.

It was gross. Everyone agreed it sounded good on paper but yeah, never again.

Why did you have to go and ruin it !!!!!! Everyone knows it’s bad. It’s just a matter of how friggin bad. And was it as bad as when I was a kid.

bcrdukes 05-29-2025 06:37 PM

Does it get worse with age? :lol

Foody Goody was a place I went to almost weekly with the kids when they were young. The one on Kingsway in Burnaby. Great memories driving there in the Previa. Yes, a Previa. Same as you know who..........

Honestly I don’t know how buffets exist anymore in almost any form, I guess nostalgia but even the Vegas ones are dieing

I could pack away some food, especially when drinking, but usually after like a plate, I’m feeling pretty good and I’m a bigger guy but just feel fucking disgusting on the rare occasion I go to AYCE sushi etc.

Yet people go to these buffets and just pack away the food lol.. unless you’re like 400+ pounds I don’t know how people do it.

And it’s not even really about “getting your moneys worth” to me, like a Vegas buffet I’d rather just spend $100+ and go have a single dish somewhere else

whitev70r 05-30-2025 11:15 AM

I think the excess and waste of AYCE buffets is also what is starting to bother me.

100% agree.

On a separate note, looks can be deceiving. Back in highschool, we'd go AYCE sushi because, well, highschool. The girls can pack away way more than any of the guys. It was honestly pretty impressive and physical size has zero bearing on how much you can eat.

That being said, we are planning to hit up AYCE sushi next week, a few of us high school guys, for old times sake.

Uhhh excuse me, you can’t “waste” food at uncle Willy’s as it’s basically garbage.

Salty garbage too.

i try to explain this logic to my wife and her rebuttal is that at an AYCE you get the opportunity to try a bit of different types of food vs a single dish

didnt we go together like 5 years ago with all the kids? at the time i didnt think it was so bad because i just ate the same 3-4 things until i was full, and all of those things were like 4/10 at best, but my expectations were 2/10 so i didn't hate it lol.

bcrdukes 05-30-2025 12:55 PM

Given your preferences, would you go again? :lol

unit 05-30-2025 01:47 PM

lol i was basically dragged there as the new boyfriend at the time..

68style 05-30-2025 01:49 PM

Jesus that sounds like a red flag hahaha

Razor Ramon HG 05-30-2025 02:04 PM

Lol, I went to Uncle Willy's in January for nostalgic reasons.

The last time I had went was in 2011 baked as hell with some buddies.

Honestly was better than I expected and the place was pretty clean.

The fried chicken was great.

Solid 3/5.

it was to meet all the highschool friends and most of them had kids already, so it was an ideal place haha.. it was dead in there too, go figure.
i wouldnt go again but i think for the nostalgia and for subpar buffet that's not like $40, its worth going to every 10 years or so lol

I also enjoy AYCE not to stuff myself but for variety LOL. If I try to min/mas I'll just try to stuff myself.. and that hurts nowadays. And I feel awful.

I had dinner at Vancouver Club the other night. Never been. It was pretty good and so I stuffed myself. And I felt real fucking sick after. Tho it might've been cause I had been up for 38 hours by that point, my last meal was 24 hours ago, and my first meal was a Dark n Stormy followed by truffle fries. Damn those fries were good.

This would be my review for Seoul Grill House by Guilford too.

i give it a 7 out of 10, not sure if it was worth the $44 but i would go again.

So Richmond Ninkazu was across from Aberdeen originally - in the Lido plaza. That is now another AYCE BBQ place. Mid and hella delayed btw. Richmond Ninkazu moved to Richmond Sushi's spot, also somehow it's worse than before but they were able to expand. I would not go again.

Anyone remember the AYCE sushi place that used to be at corner of Cooney/Lansdowne rd? Tokyo something something. It's long gone now, but it was sort of my gateway sushi restaurant experience here in Richmond.

Being a white boy in Calgary, all I ever ate at Japanese restaurants there were teriyaki dishes. This place was where I was finally willing to try California roll and salmon sashimi for the first time lol. Granted, I was still a kid at the time.

Tokyo Joe. This place was awesome. Very few people remember it but this was my best AYCE experience.

I have this theory that AYCE only exists in a recession/bad economy where consumers typically eat value > quality, but in Vancouver, because we're bougie.. we get premium AYCE which can be $100 at some places.

spoon.ek9 06-01-2025 01:46 PM

I think Tokyo Joe was the one that came afterwards... The one I'm think of had a Chinese name. Something along the lines of Tokyo No.1 or something like that? It was on the inside corner of that mall and had private booths (perfect for taking extra food home lol).
