You guys are thinking Tokyo Ichiban form the 90s? |
Yes! That's the one! haha wow, I knew one of us old farts would remember! :D That place was great at the time. Good quality for AYCE. Takes me back to teenage years. Stuffing myself so full it hurt at times. Everything else went into tupperware and hidden in family members purses :lol |
fuck yes!! that place had "fried milk" my mom's favourite |

Tokyo Ichiban, many memories of stuffing to the brim there. |
We went to Tokyo Ichiban when I was maybe 8? When my parents told me we were going to Tokyo Ichiban it was a cause for celebration. The oyster motoyakis, the unlimited sashimi. I still remember fondly the time we had lobster sashimi, it was so good. I still order oyster motoyakis for old time sake. Not so much because they are so good but it's just a childhood treasure. The AYCE changed the motoyaki sauce overtime, then it was no longer whole oysters, and then they started doing it in the stupid metal tart trays. I'm going to be 80 and I'll be telling my grandkids (if I ever get grandkids) that I used to eat these by the dozen. As I got older I started going to the one on Granville and 41st. I don't remember what it's called in English, just the Chinese name, it was "1 ping" |
some AYCE sushi joint use to serve raw oysters too. unfortunately by the time i acquired the taste for it, no more. i was at daimanya yesterday, loved it. |

https://i.postimg.cc/D0tD4CMj/IMG-4658.jpg speaking of ghetto food. this was 15 dollars at Gingeri in richmond Quite good for 15 dollars!!! its their lunch special that runs from 11am-3pm. |
^ That was right next to my old condo, pretty good quality their butter chicken is one of the best around I think If you do takeout entree from there you get way more food than if you stay in with the brass cauldron things |
Have you guys tried East is East? 2 locations, essentially AYCE but it was pretty decent. Lots of variety, comes out in small little tapa size plates/bowls. And if you go on the right night, you can have belly dancers to boot! |
I did not know Gingeri served Indian food. Interesting. Edit: Did you mean Ginger Indian Restaurant? |
bahahhah my bad, yes ginger the indian resturant. not gingeri the Chinese food. |

its like a few bucks to pay for the entertainment. i'd say that is pretty good value, otherwise go at a time or day when there is nothing going on. |
Well yea I wouldn’t bat an eye at paying a couple bucks for 3-5 people playing live music with dinner, but this is the thread we’re talking $2 chicken meals :lol |
^ good point, and tomorrow is Tuesday. I wonder if the Safeway in Calgary does the same deal? There’s one next to me but I’ve never been in it maybe I’ll try tomorrow lol |
