Nice, I had no idea such a function existed.

edit: cool! that pic was from 2009. Somewhere between 2009-2011 it was taken over by another restaurant.

Went to Meiten in Aberdeen with a friend for old times AYCE sake. The place wasn't busy and the menu wasn't large. But tbh we are almost 40, we ain't stuffing ourselves to the brim. It was $29.99/person for lunch, no limitations, but mandatory 15% tip. Food was actually decent, better than what I remember from Top Gun group or Fish on Rice back in the day.

Damnn, that plate alone would run you a good $29 at any run of the mill sushi joint nowadays.

I'm assuming the lunch pricing is only Monday to Fridays?

radeonboy 06-06-2025 10:24 PM

Works on weekends too, but probably better to go early given their reputation for having slow service.

spoon.ek9 06-07-2025 06:43 PM

I was just at Aberdeen today for lunch/Oomomo. Showed the gf that place, we'll try it some other time.

Badhobz 06-09-2025 06:32 AM

I laughed at deep fried cali roll being "special" lol

Gumby 06-09-2025 08:39 AM

Very nice - first round of orders for yourself? :D

Let me guess - her friend had AYCE edamame beans!

Badhobz 06-09-2025 08:42 AM

we only did 2 orders. 3 of us couldnt even finish most of this stuff. 2nd order was only 6 more pieces of sashimi and then we tapped out.

Teriyaki 06-09-2025 09:19 AM

Sounds like an official unofficial RS meet up spot is brewing?

spoon.ek9 06-09-2025 09:27 AM

add it to the list:

1. LA Chicken parking lot meat
2. Admiralty Centre (because so much good shit there)
3. Meitan AYCE old fatties meat

Badhobz 06-09-2025 09:29 AM

ohhh and the AYCE fish and chips place with the hot skanks in new west. Cocky Kings?

MG1 06-09-2025 10:07 AM

^ fuck that shit............. Squint lake with Flip sausage and kkthind tandoori chicken cooked/burnt on Revscene Holy Grill, which I still have, btw. Still have the extra mysterious parts that somehow ended up in the box. Hey, flip put it together........... nuff said.

Badhobz 06-09-2025 12:48 PM

So my buddy at work took me to this place underneath the old post office on Georgia. its uhhh public market? What an amazing lunch deal!!! if you guys are downtown plz go try this. its really good for the price (the prime rib is wayyy too overcooked, although its still relatively tender)

they give you two of these big slices of prime rib. well worth the $$ right there and for the sides you can pick carrots, mashed potato, roasted potatos, veggy mix, and mushrooms.

Teriyaki 06-09-2025 01:30 PM

Thats the Loblaws Deli counter right

Eff-1 06-09-2025 02:04 PM

yeah that's the loblaws city market.

i'd say 50% of the amazon software engineers working upstairs all eat lunch there everyday lol.

Eff-1 06-09-2025 02:06 PM

Another hidden secret for lunch deals in the same neighbourhood as Loblaws is the VCC campus cafeteria. It's cooked and run by students and the food is discounted.

There's also JJ's. https://www.vcc.ca/services/eat-shop...js-restaurant/

Fine dining run by students. Prices are cheap. I've never eaten there but reservations are needed.

Badhobz 06-09-2025 02:41 PM

Best meal I’ve had downtown for that price so far. Epic to get prime rib for 15 bucks.

I don't think you can even get HK style cafe for $15 anymore!

Badhobz 06-09-2025 02:48 PM

Did you guys see the salmon for 12 bucks!? If you don’t want a bloating, beefy meal, you could grab the salmon for 12 dollars!!

basically $18-$19 minimum on their "late night" menus

aberdeen food court you can still be under $15 if no drink lol. portions are huge of course so it's still worth it compared to actual sit down cafe.

CivicBlues 06-09-2025 03:40 PM

Hey so wasn't The Post (The place where Badhobz got his big mouthful of meat) supposed to be some big trendy foodhall type of place like they have in other big cities?

It's been a couple years now and all there is is the Loblaws CityMarket, a coffee joint, and some Acai berry place. Even the Lees Doughnuts has vacated the premises recently it seems. Is this another bait and switch hype train missing the mark like Vancouver so often manifests?

Badhobz 06-09-2025 03:50 PM

thats what they are promising for the new oakridge mall too. some sort of a foodhall..

This city market is available everywhere isnt it? i know there's one in ironwood richmond

spoon.ek9 06-09-2025 03:59 PM

who needs a food hall when you got asian food courts? :awesom:

Hondaracer 06-09-2025 04:17 PM

Places like the big food halls of Europe will never be successful here because people won’t think it’s “cool enough”
