Even without rooting it, the phone itself is already amazing! Maybe one of these days, I'll eventually root it..

The ability to remove carrier bloat should be enough incentive. But to each their own.

Was at 90% when I left for work this morning at 8 but I hope it will last me the day. .. really enjoying this phone right now and i like it a lot more than the s3!!This phone isn't choppy at all! What apps so you guys recommend downloading?

If your ready to dive in, flashing a custom ROM would be a biggy. New apps are cool and all but you don't learn anything until you flash a ROM and start looking at the internals of how Android (linux really) works.

kayceeee 12-21-2012 07:09 PM

is it hard or a bad idea to root my phone now after using it a while. I got a bunch of stuff on it that I don't want to lose or re do all over again.

Gh0stRider 12-21-2012 07:13 PM

not hard. its really easy

insomniac 12-21-2012 10:06 PM

lol total noob but
what are roms and kernels?
just skimmed through the thread and i have no clue what those are..... i use a mac lol is the rooting process harder or just the same?

edit: sorry i shouldve googled lol... found out how to root a mac but what are kernals? what rom do you guys recommend?

joquio 12-21-2012 10:22 PM

Most popular Rom right now for the NA Note II is CleanRom I think.
That's what I'm using. It also enables the "Multi-View" function.
[ROM][12/15] CleanROM 3.3 -★| Aroma! | JB 4.1.2! | Multi-View! | Fast! | Clean! |★- - xda-developers

Kernels controls the CPU/GPU speed and also affects the battery life.
Here is a better definition I googled quickly:
"The term kernel comes from Linux, which is kind of the forerunner of Android. All Android phones come with a kernel installed on them. It is the communication link between hardware and software. One of its most important functions is Battery usage and the kernel dictates the life of your phone battery."

The CleanROM comes with 2 kernels to choose from when you go through the installation.

ShadowBun 12-22-2012 12:05 AM

thought the most popular rom is Jedi

will this be compatible with the international version? I have the N7100

Does the note 2 suffer from screen banding like the s2 did? Or us it generally pretty non existent/not obvious?

Maybe, I did checked out the Jedi thread before flashing but I don't like bloated Roms and definitely don't care for the "saber sound effect". lol.

I don't believe it's compatible with the international version, and it would have to be ported over for it to work. For the N7100 I would check out this Rom:
[ROM] Android Revolution HD 6.0 | High Quality & Performance | AROMA | Android 4.1.2 - xda-developers

Please bare with me, but I tried googling how to copy of my angry birds games from my SGS to my Note 2. Most of the instructions I found is the same one reposted on different forums and the apps they recommend either are no longer on Google play or does not work on a non-rooted Jelly bean.
I'd like to keep my 3 stars and golden eggs.

Any recommendations?

Well you will need a back up. Usually a titanium back up is all you need. As a precautionary measure, copy the angry birds home directory and reinstall the new angry birds in your phone. Restore the game data with titanium and you should be good. Otherwise the game directory back up, look and replace the data accordingly to make the saves work.

Guess I'll have to take the big jump and root both phones.
Will rooting the phone cause me to loose any of the saved data?

Gh0stRider 12-23-2012 10:58 AM

no you wont lose anything.

!Yaminashi 12-23-2012 01:22 PM

Doesnt rooting reset anything youve changed?

No you won't

rooting is just like jail breaking

i have the Rogers LTE note 2, and in standby mode for 6-7 hours it drains approx 15-20% of my battery.

So when I go to bed and wake up, it drained that much.................have you guys encountered anything or is it just me?

asian_XL 12-23-2012 09:33 PM

I turn off LTE and wifi before i go to sleep 10% drainage

Gh0stRider 12-23-2012 09:55 PM

should charge the phone while sleeping instead of going standby

willystyle 12-23-2012 10:44 PM

What's the best price for a Note II for WIND?

Well, I typically charge it when I am at work.

I did some research, apparently some apps keeps in in 'awake' mode and does not go into deep sleep........

They recommend cpu spy and better battery stats app to keep track of what is turned on.

LOL sorry, this was on two different matter.

one is about the free note happening at best buy (wondering if I could call and get credited)

and the other is about the previous update with my phone problems.
Rogers tech guys actually told me that I got a buggy phone and to send it back to get refurbed or fixed.

its just such bs because the phone is only 3 weeks old and it has past the return date by a week.

felt like I got scammed.
