Might be a stupid question..
Does the North American version not work in other countries?
My friend has the telus s2x that she unlocked and the data doesnt work in korea. Calls and texts are fine.
Now im pondering if I should hv bought the international version.. didnt hv this problem with iphone >_<

could be different frequency or apn settings

Graeme S 11-22-2012 11:29 PM

APN settings.

If the phone didn't work at all it would be because of Korea's phone whitelisting.

Korea (for those of you who are unaware) are extremely protectionist in terms of what they let in their country; high import taxes, tariffs, and in the case of cellphones, a 'whitelist' of phones that are allowed. Any phone model which isn't on a list of databases isn't able to be used in Korea. Learned that one the hard way when I took my old Blackberry (wow that's a long time ago) there and was unable to get any kind of service. Had to buy a new phone there.

Tell your friend to either update the APN settings, or get someone to do it for her. If calls and texts work, there's no reason data wouldn't either--it's not like there's separate antennae for calling/texting and data.

There are a few places GSM phones won't work. Japan is one I can think of off the top of my head.

Phones sold outside of Korea or Japan need HSPA (3G/3.5G) 2100 MHz frequency in order to work in those countries. Since they do not solely use 2100, it might be why your friend could only text and call and not 3G.

So in your case it depends on which local galaxy note 2 version you bought.
Robelus versions have UMTS (3G/3.5G) 850, 1900 and 2100
Mobilicity and Wind version only got UMTS 850 and 1900 and AWS

International Version: UMTS: Quad Band

Has anyone bought any interesting accessories for their phone yet?
I am starting to shop around for a spare battery, HDMI out cable, and if I can find it for a good price a wireless charger and backing plate.

BaoTurbo 11-23-2012 06:58 PM

I dont really even get the idea of dual sim unless you really have a use for 2 numbers. Most people just use phones for casual use

Most corporate users here carries two phones. One personal and one work phone. Many people in Asia countries do the same too. They carry 2 phones for personal and work. Some carry 2 phones for casual too (ie: phone # for mistress, phone # for wife). It's such a hassle to carry two phones with separate batteries for both phones and then dig out the phone that is ringing when someone calls you.

Dual Sim is one of the important feature that people ask for in many Asian countries such as Singapore and China. That is also the reason why Samsung release a dual sim version in those countries rather than here. Since boys and girls do not need 2 separate numbers for facebook and twitter.

I picked this up recently:

Nothing fancy as it's just a battery charger that comes with a spare battery and an area where you can place you phone standing vertically or horizontally.

Still need to pick up the following accessories:

Wrapsol Samsung Galaxy Note II Ultra front and back screen protectors.

Sushi604 11-23-2012 08:41 PM

LOL, I just noticed there's a black friday sale for the wrapsol products if anyone was wondering.

Not that I'm aware of currently. There were only 2 colors. Black and White. Eventually they may make other colors such as red (supposedly we'll be getting a red version of the galaxy note II in the near future) which will really spice things up.

if you do a lot of frequent travels to overseas, its good, otherwise its no use...
unless you want to live a secret life.. haha

RFlush 11-24-2012 06:31 AM

Damn, I should have waited for the dual sim version! The constant changing of sim cards is quite annoying, and as others says, those who live in Asia and have to travel a lot, dual sim is so important.

Only difference is that Sushi's comes with an OEM battery while this one is just the charger/stand.

SumAznGuy 11-24-2012 02:40 PM
