My aunt helped me buy a lightning cable from hk. It works, since I keep it with me and my battery charger. Data transfer on the other hand, I am not sure.

Iceman_2K 03-11-2013 04:34 PM

Charging is fine, but data transfer is iffy. I've bought two from greennet at parker and one of the two works as data and charge, but the other is charge only.

insomniac 03-11-2013 09:54 PM

lol my fake one broke on me and charged slow.. ended up just buying a real one for $23 at apple lol

Is anyone else's wifi really shoddy?
I tried re-installing my iOS, rebooting, etc.
But my wifi will keep cutting out sporadically. It happens everywhere, so it's not just my home router...
Is this an issue to take to Apple?

Getting a little irritated with the 5. Had nothing but issues. Already had my previous one replaced, the wifi didn't work at all. Kinda wish I stuck with my 4s.. Never had a problem with that. Maybe I just hit a couple lemons..? :suspicious:

I've thought about switching to droids, and now with all these issues, that urge is stronger than ever... but I've been using iPhones for like 5 years now and I don't think I'd have the balls to switch lol

Iceman_2K 03-13-2013 07:19 PM

I still have a factory unlocked 4s on my desk that I'm thinking of letting go. I've got the 5 for the last while now and I've not had any issues with it.

scoobyej20 03-16-2013 12:33 AM

Guys.. Just buy the Lightening to Micro USB adaptor.. Then u can use any cheap micro USB cable.. Micro USB cables are a lot cheaper to replace than the authentic Lightening cable

So, I've been having some issues with the Iphone 5 lately where it gets super hot and drains the battery from 100% to 0 in 4 hours. It just stays idle in my pocket most of the 4 hours. I went to the genius bar and they told me to do a full factory reset as its a process issue that runs in the background.

Anyone else experience the same issue, did it still occur after the factory reset?

LiquidTurbo 03-17-2013 03:44 PM

Great tip, or maybe I've been stupid this whole time. Turns out you can zoom in and out with one hand on google maps. (I always used pinch to zoom)

Just double tap, hold and drag up or down.

So simple, can't believe I didn't know this.

quick question...i travel to the US often enough that i use my phone a fair bit..and everytime i come back..my bill is like an extra 50$+ lol now i keep hearing about this roaming thing that was talked in the last page...do i have to get my phone unlocked before i can buy it ? as it seems it would save me a shit ton of $ lol

Alatar 03-18-2013 07:47 PM

^ Yes. If you're with Fido/Rogers, I think you're looking at $50 and 3 months of good standing with account to get unlocked. Telus, $35, Koodo, $50, Bell/Virgin, you're SOL.

XplicitLuder 03-18-2013 08:48 PM

fuhhh, im with bell lol okay :(

I believe that Bell will unlock for $75.

quick question for those who have a song as a ringtune, dont know if you guys followed that guide that there is (can find it if itll help with what im trying to ask) but at one point where you have to delete the song but keep the files , something pops up when you click delete and asks you this, you're supposed to delete the song but keep the file; my issue is though i clicked long ago some box which said something like " click here if you dont wish to be asked again " and now when i click delete nothing will pop up...anyone know where i can reset this so it does pop up ?

I said it would never happen, but it looks like I'm wrong. April 12th is the release of the AWS iPhone.

see Mobilesyrup for details

Do WIND, Mobilicity and Videotron subscribers finally have an iPhone to call their own? Sort of, not really, no. Depends on who you ask. Before we get to that, however, let’s back up.

For months now, following its impending merger with MetroPCS, T-Mobile has been teasing the rollout of an LTE network, the last of the major four U.S. carriers to do so. While Big Magenta had been subsisting fairly well on a 42Mbps-compatible Dual-Carrier HSPA+ network for some time, it most notably lacked the one major device that would stem the tide of user abandonment: the iPhone. Despite Android’s significant market share gains in North America, the iPhone is still the single most important device on a carrier’s balance sheet.

Along with huge changes to its pricing model — gone are subsidies; in are monthly instalment plans — T-Mobile is transitioning over to a 1900Mhz-based 3G network (courtesy of MetroPCS) and an AWS-based LTE network. What this means is that, by the end of the year, it will be running on the exact same frequencies as Rogers, Bell and TELUS, minus the 850Mhz part. In the meantime, existing users will continue to be able to use the company’s AWS-based HSPA+ network (1700/2100Mhz) as it rolls out LTE on the same spectrum.

Complicated as this might sound, it bodes well for Canadian interoperability. Previously, we had a choice: bring an unlocked PCS-based phone and purchase an expensive AT&T prepaid SIM card, or find an unlocked AWS-compatible phone such as the Nexus 4 and buy a much cheaper T-Mobile prepaid SIM. With this new setup, it’s likely that most existing devices, from both the incumbents and new entrants, will work on T-Mobile. (And, yes, despite lower costs, I neglected to mention roaming packages for a reason).

The company has rolled out LTE in seven cities so far – Baltimore, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Jose, and Washington DC — with coverage for 200 million U.S. citizens expected by the end of 2013. We’re still waiting to find out if Canadian incumbent carriers have LTE roaming agreements with T-Mobile — it is the only carrier that uses AWS spectrum for LTE in wide deployment, as both AT&T and Verizon use 700Mhz — but it’s likely they will in short order.

More importantly, it appears that unlocked iPhones sold directly from Apple will begin supporting AWS come April 12th. Apple representatives confirmed that while existing hardware will not support the 1700/2100Mhz combination, all new handsets purchased with the model number A1428 – yes, even the locked ones from the carriers — will be usable on the new entrants. It’s unlikely that WIND, Mobilicity and Videotron will ever officially sell the iPhone, as their procurement numbers would be far too low to support Apple’s considerable marketing and inventory investment requirements, but it does mean that unlocked iPhones, starting next month, will work on their networks. And you can be darn sure they will begin selling nano-SIM cards as soon as humanly possible.

T-Mobile’s new UnCarrier plans mean that users will be able to purchase a prepaid SIM card with 100 minutes of nationwide talk, unlimited texting and 5GB of data for $30 (for 30 days of service). The existing $3/day for unlimited talk and text plus 200MB of data is still available if you’re only traveling for a short time.

Ultimately, this also means that Canadian iPhone users should, over the next few months, be able to go south and purchase a prepaid T-Mobile SIM nano-SIM and activate 3G service in areas that have 1900Mhz towers active. These are few and far between at the moment — the vast majority of T-Mobile 3G is still running on AWS spectrum — but the situation should be much different by the end of the year.

These are good tidings for Canadians traveling to the United States, and excellent news for users looking to purchase an iPhone to run on the new entrants. We don’t have proof that Apple Canada will be shipping the updated pentaband iPhone 5 on April 12th, but we can’t imagine they won’t. We’ll update you when we know more.
Pentabandddddddddddd

Apple phones are all the same. any locks or frequency unlocks will be done on their side. I don't see why Canada wouldn't get it.

Wind already announced they are getting it on FB.

MTV Cribs 03-27-2013 10:56 AM

Wind didn't say they were getting the iPhone. They just posted that it will work with their network.

yes, but who would buy a phone from Wind? their over MSRP sucks.

Id buy straight from Apple if I were to go back to IOS.

Not iphone 5, but my mom has songs on her iphone 4 that she doesn't want (taking too much space). However, I think she sold the computer that the phone is synced to. Is there any way for the music to "de-sync" without removing any of the contacts/photos on the phone?

Use CopyTrans Manager to drag out the songs. Resync the songs you want back in.

MTV Cribs 04-09-2013 12:58 AM

If you want to delete the songs, just swipe you finger across the playlist or songs and delete.

If I unlock my iPhone 5 through Rogers and I get a new iPhone 5 from Apple, would they give me a locked version or an unlocked one?
