Won't stop all thefts, though. People could still steal phones to use for spare parts, though that's not nearly as lucrative as selling an actual working phone.

Some blogs are trying to scare people and say this will prevent you from being able to sell your used phone/tablet. I doubt it - it would be the same as giving a phone to a family member. Apple will have to allow you to change the ID attached to a phone otherwise people could never upgrade to newer devices and keep their e-mail. Most likely you use your credentials to perform a factory reset and then you'll be allowed to enter a new ID to use with the phone (just like it works now).

Wrong

If a device has "Find my iPhone" enabled and is restored, it will require the same Apple ID to activate. This is all done via Apple's servers, so there isn't any way around it. I can see how this will be a huge issue when selling a used device with the ex owner having their Apple ID logged in and not being able to log out as it requires you to enter a password to make any changes. It probably won't STOP thefts but it's a deterrent

I've already done this and it worked fine. I turned Find My iPhone off (which required a password). Once it's off, then reset/restore works as before and I was able to set it up like a new device.

Of course it won't work if Find My iPhone is turned on - that's the whole purpose. But whoever said you would sell (or buy) a device with Find My iPhone enabled? That would be the best way to determine if it's stolen - have the seller put in their password and turn it off for you. If they can't turn it off, stay away.

VLC returns to the App Store as a free, open-source video player compatible with every format | MobileSyrup.com

VLC is back and is FREE. Now I feel remorse for paying for AVPlayer a couple of days ago.

Trading used iPhone 4S on craigslist

I've put a cheapo BNIB Fido phone on craigslist for sale and someone emails me back they want to trade that for a iPhone 4S. Out of curiosity, I asked for a reason and they said they wanted a cheaper phone.

Sounds fishy. But I kind of still want to check it out.

I've made a checklist of things that I should check for and was wondering if anyone can add to that.

- check headphone port for red indicator (water damage?)
- Wifi
- check speakers with music, videos, placing calls
- check warranty with Apple (they said it's covered till end of December)

Would Apple be able to do anything if I met up at an Apple store? ie, provide a quick check to make sure the iPhone's working?

Thanks

honestly.. just check for the red water indicator in the headphone jack and the charging port, there's 2.. and the stick the S/N in on the apple's website to check the warranty status of the phone.. if it's good till december. i can careless about the other stuff as long as it's not physically dmg and the water indicator ain't lit up you can get a replacement anyways. assuming it's still under warranty

Gf's iPhone 5 on 7.0.4 has some annoying issues with reception. Loses signal every so often and won't reconnect to the network unless I turn airplane mode on/off (which only works somtimes), or I turn the whole phone on/off. Confident it's not a network issue as my S4 has no reception issues, nor does my iPhone 4.

Phone is out of warranty. Anyone know what the Apple store's policy is regarding shit like this? I remember a few years ago you could "trade in" your busted phone + $100(?) for a refurb

there has to be an issue before they give you a refurb and the price is higher then that for iphone 5

bring it in get them to check the phone anyways, iirc the replacement is about 250-280

jing 12-23-2013 10:19 PM

Booked an appointment for tomorrow morning.. probably won't be getting a replacement as it doesn't make financial sense but we'll see what happens. Thanks for chiming in though!

My 5s has the same thing

Inside my house keeps searching now and then and says no signal

But my note two had no issues and this only happened right after I changed to the 5s

And I find that my wifi cuts in and out as well at home with the 5s

Out of warranty already? Good thing I got the apple one care for my phone. Who knows maybe an accident might happen towards the end of the 2year period and I might need to replace the phone......

You have a metal case on the phone? I used to have the same thing happen to me with the 5 and the 4's with a metal case.

Question for you guys... I have a Fido iPhone 5 that has been unlocked (factory unlock by Fido), it recently started acting up and will most likely be replaced by Apple. What kind of replacement will I get? Will I get another unlocked phone or a phone locked to Fido?

Also I am wondering about a little different scenario... What happens if a carrier locked iPhone gets replaced by Apple under warranty and then I try to get it unlocked by the carrier? They would only have the original IMEI on file, would they refuse unlocking the new phone?

Iceman_2K 12-31-2013 05:47 PM

Have you done a clean install of the OS?

It will be unlocked. I unlocked my phone from Fido as well and got my phone replaced I would say about 3 times already, I use T-Mob in the states, have had no problems.
