I'm rooted but on stock rom, stock kernel. At least root your phone so you can take advantage of:
1. Nexus 4 Display Control. Calibrate your screen so it's not awfully wrong everywhere
2. Titanium Backup.
3. Avast Anti-Theft

have most of you guys rooted your phone? I'm happy with the stock android, but am wondering if I would be more happy with a rooted phone

been noticing slight lag with 720p movies on VLC player...can anyone run 1080p movies with no lag?

Try MX Player Pro. Best video player for Android IMO.

EDIT: Also, if you are on a custom ROM, it might not have hardware acceleration yet, hence the lag. Should run fine on stock though.

What rom are you on and what kernal? I"m on Xylon, franco r348, and getting 10-12 hr max on my extended battery.

Im on stock JB 4.2. I have it rooted though. Don't see a point in going custom rom at the moment. I go through a full day plus another half a day (half on data half on wifi) easily

Sweet. I've been looking for roms to flash and xylon looks good. Now the bigger question. Do I restore my apps with titanium backup or install from scratch? Lol
Posted via RS Mobile

It's always good to install from scratch but I'm always too lazy to do that and since I paid for TI Pro I might as well put it to use. Never ran into any problems because I only backup and restore apps/data and not settings.

!MiKrofT 12-28-2012 09:53 AM

Yeah. Exactly. I'm lazy. Lol. I flash a lot so I use TBpro a lot.

I ordered the poetic borderline bumper. Supposed to be slimmer than the oem one, much cheaper, and in stock.

shenmecar 12-28-2012 11:43 AM

TB Pro might be the best app i ever purchased from the play store.

What are the differences from pro and free? Probably more things you can backup i'm guessing?

OT: Stupid rengke slim case hasn't even shipped yet.. ordered 2 weeks ago

Is there any links I can read about roms/kernels so I don't bombard this thread with a million questions?

theevilslave 12-28-2012 12:32 PM

^Google it, plenty of websites explaining it. Or even go on XDA forums, they have a lot of help there.

Only thing I recall that is important is the ability to restore multiple apps without having to click yes or okay for every single app.

I've always been a purist. I like things as-is and not modified, the way the manufacturer intended. So when I had iPhones, I did not jailbreak. I sometimes envied those who had sbsettings because it seriously rocked.

So then I switched to Android, using the Nexus 4. I refused to root at first but gave in because of what I mentioned above. I refused to change the kernel or rom because well, it's not Google. It's third-party, some developer on XDA. Except today.

Holy shit anyone who has or will have the Nexus 4, damn it, root and kernel that thing now. I'm on Franco kernel r21 and not only is the performance better, the battery life is insane. I mentioned how I can only get 8 or so hours of battery before, now I get the whole day.
