You need a fast SSD to plot and a large storage to farm the plots (store info). Each plot is around 237 gigs. The size of the SSD depends on the number of threads your cpu has. The more threads the more plots you can do at a time from what I understand.

StylinRed 05-04-2021 05:41 PM

I've been building a plotter/farm rig for chia today, crash course in chia is so annoying

But your plotting drives need to be server drives or else they die after a month of plotting, even server grade ssd will die after 6months ish (yikes)

Building as in making a parts list and ordering

68style 05-04-2021 11:09 PM

I have some friends doing CHIA and the computer they got running it with tonnes of open HD space is estimating 6-7 years to farm 1 coin LOL

StylinRed 05-04-2021 11:33 PM

Yeah u need lots of plots (therefore lots of hdds)

Sounds like if u don't go big, u should wait for pools to be implemented

Manic! 05-05-2021 12:03 AM

fckn DODGE is over 80 cents can. It's going to be over a buck after Saturday night. Look at all the DODGE coin billionaires.

I thought it would be going up a lot, but still only put in a $300 to tryout, and damn I'm really kicking myself for not putting more in

For server ssds find one with a high DWPD and a high capacity, then they should last for awhile, but they're expensive af (like $3k usd for a 6.4tb)

Tegra_Devil 05-05-2021 09:36 AM

So, I have my 8700k (it is 6core-12threads). I have a spare 1tb samsung 860 that im plotting on (that should die by the end of the month) and I have a 4tb external HDD(where i am storing my plots for farming.

My buddy is getting me a 1.6TB enterprise ssd for when my samsung kicks the bucket. I am thinking of buying a 2-4 18TB WD external drives and just plugging them into my 4 spare usb 3.0 in my tower.

Right now I am only doing 1 at a time in my queue for plotting. I havent been able to find out proper settings for parrallel plotting, and I am not sure what the best settings for the 8700k with 32gb of 3600mhz ram is. So im just dicking away at 1 at a time. Im assuming I could overclock my 8700k and speed up plotting time maybe.

I guess you dont really start making money until your external drives are absolutely filled. I think it said 4tb gets you roughly $10usd a day. So your not making good money until those drives are filled to the tits

Can someone explain to me how the plotting SSD size matters? like if you can only plot 2 or 3 at a time, that only takes up 4gbs(each plot is only 1.1gbish) before it finishes and transfers the plot to your external big TB drives

StylinRed 05-05-2021 09:40 AM

Ah, yeah I haven't even started really reading about the software side of things, still trying to get the parts together

But it sounds like even if you plot fast af, it still depends on if you find any chia, and that could take ages, especially with more, n more ppl farming chia

Some ppl are just giving up until official pools are implemented

If Doge goes over $1, it'll be dumped hard.

StylinRed 05-05-2021 12:27 PM

Imagine there'll be another push after snl on Saturday, everyone's expecting musk to promote it

68style 05-05-2021 12:27 PM

I dumped at 81 cents don’t even care if it goes up more I’m happy to go along for as much of a ride as I did for only a weeks worth of money in

I'm cautiously considering building a portfolio as well.. despite the fact crypto fundamentally goes against every investing philosophy I have.

If I do build one, I'd perhaps allocate 80% towards bitc / eth, then 20% towards spec coins?

However I don't really know enough about the crypto space, and literally every person in the finance industry I respect say stay away.

68style 05-05-2021 04:07 PM

People are inherently scared of what they don't understand.

Heck, I don't really understand it myself........... but I can see that it's the future and isn't going away. And lots of exchanges have really helpful tickers you can read like stock charts and I mean if something is sitting at like 70% buy and 30% sell it's going up, jump on for a bit with your 20% haha.

corollagtSr5 05-05-2021 06:43 PM

Just buy vechain for 0.20 cents and hold for 15 years.

Lol same, I just transferred a small amount, $500 into my account yesterday waiting for it to go through. I'm still not sure if I will use it. I don't understand it and I'm feeling pretty FOMO about it which goes against everything I shouldn't do. It's also a small amount of money in which I won't cry or be angry about if I lose it but I don't know lol

:lawl:. Already holding for years :alone:

Tegra_Devil 05-06-2021 12:13 PM

the key is only invest how much you feel comfortable losing.

BTC,ETH are pretty much givens, but who knows what kind of returns will come in 5 years...might be mediocre, might be mind blowing....impossible to say. People really fomo into the random alt coins that are mid pump and dump.

I am invested in 5 coins total.

BTC,ETH,ADA(my hedge against eth), and my random pump and dumb coins are TRX and KIN

I dont feel like stretching myself thinner over more coins

.....well i guess I just started CHIA mining as well, so there is that coin, but I am just selling it the second I get them for USDC

wreck 05-06-2021 02:39 PM

I'm sure it's been posted already, but these things do change.. so as of today, which platform is best to trade with?

Tegra_Devil 05-06-2021 03:04 PM

I use binance and coinbase, but I'm sure others have their favourites

slow-fastback 05-06-2021 03:08 PM

Depends what coins, but binance/newton/crypto.com/kucoin/shakepay

StylinRed 05-06-2021 03:42 PM

I've got several but find I prefer using crypto.coms app
