In hindsight Kessel for seguin wasn't nearly as bad as people thought outside of the picks given up

For $8 million a year, is Kessel giving the Leafs the leadership and grit needed to win a Stanley Cup? He's one dimensional. Can you compare him to Crosby, Jonathan Toews as players who you can build a championship team around? I don't think so.

Hondaracer 10-01-2013 09:33 AM

Kessel brings more grit then Sedins.

That's fine. Each Sedin have 1 more testicle than Kessel.

Will believe that once Kessel wins a Hart, Art Ross, Ted Linsday Award and takes his team to the 7th game of the Stanley Cup Finals. Not to mention put up with all the criticism from the day they were drafted.

Sedins > Kessel. The only way to silence some of the critics of the Sedins is a Stanley Cup championship. That would silence the trolls.

Lu's new mask looks good. -hope that Johnny Canuck brings some luck to this team.

Hondaracer 10-01-2013 10:00 AM

Canucks fans must be the only ones to use not winning a cup as a sign of achievement

:troll:

I'll give the Sedins all the credit in the world, they are great regular season players. IMO their playoff numbers are inflated as a lot of their points come off mean-nothing goals late in games or points that don't have an impact on the outcome, how many big goals do you remember during the cup run?

They will never change the way they play, torts isn't just going to come in and make them a grittier pairing it's not in their nature, so as we stand now we are essentially the same team as last year with a shook up bottom six and puting hopes in players like Booth and Kassian that they will exceed expectations, that isn't good enough to compete with the best in the west let alone in the league.

Lol... not sure if Wingers should get 8+ with this cap

Centers like toews, crosby, malkin, stamkos, are worth it because they play center and we all know center does way more things on ice than wings.

Jeff Carter - 5.7 mill
J.Williams - 4.2

It's amazing how fast people forget about the Sedins' playoff goals against Chicago in 2011. How's this for a big goal in game 2?

As for Coach Torts and the team roster, we'll see how good this team is during the season and playoffs compared to the rest of the Western conference. -way too early to write off this team.

You're telling me that this is not a big goal by Daniel?

Hondaracer 10-01-2013 10:28 AM

A 2-0 goal in game two of a series they blew a 3-0 lead in is a "big goal" ?

Not really racist! 10-01-2013 10:32 AM

8 mil is like the new precedent for star forwards and like 6.5 mil for defenseman

Perry, Getzlaf, Kessel, Giroux Petri, Karlsson......and somehow Letang gets 7.25

dem inflated contracts, ball so hard

lol Kessel gets 23.5 mil signing bonus... damn

Scoring a playoff goal is big in my books. Unless you are looking for a game 7, overtime winner in the Cup Finals type of big goal.

How many goals did Kessel score to help Toronto beat Boston in their last playoff series?

Oh wait, the Leafs choked big time against the Bruins in the playoffs last season after blowing a 4-1 lead midway in the third period.

spideyv2 10-01-2013 10:58 AM

So Kessel has the same caphit as Crosby?

I don't think so Tim

Mike Oxbig 10-01-2013 11:00 AM

Bruins were cruising during the 2011 playoffs nothing domnate... almost losing to MTL and TBL

They woke up when rome knocked out horton and luongo pumped TT's tires

AzNightmare 10-01-2013 11:44 AM

Was hoping the Canucks would wake up when MayRay got hurt...
:fuckthatshit: turns out, the team didn't like MayRay enough to care.

:okay:

Hondaracer 10-01-2013 11:53 AM

Two seperate times that run a clean hit changed the entire series and eventually was a big part of losing the cup

MR_BIGGS 10-01-2013 12:11 PM

Pastarocket, you're very critical of Kessel, while overly generous of the Sedins.

I guess this is where I qualify my statements by saying I'm a Canucks fan, and never been a fan of the Leafs.

Kessel is an elite player, as are the Sedins. Is Kessel worth $8M? Your worth what the market will pay. Kessel could get $8M in the open market with the cap likely going up over the next three seasons.

He had the same number of points as both Sedins in last year's playoffs.

He's been criticized ever since he got traded to the Leafs. He's never had wingers to play with. At least the Sedins have each other. Kessel has played with Bozac and Lupel for the past two season.

And you know Kessel will punch or slash you back if you punch him in the face.

I think Kessel will have another PPG season this year and start a downward trend. Peak is usually the age of 27.

I'm not saying Kessel is at the level of the Sedins, but you can't shit on what he's done.

pastarocket 10-01-2013 01:06 PM

MR BIGGS, you make good comments. I'm not the perfect judge of NHL players by any means.

My opinion is biased against Kessel especially after that third slash he took against John Scott when two Toronto players were trying to defend their team mate. -lost quite a bit of respect for this guy after the lumberjack swing of his stick.
