Yes, yes Torts will like this. Takes attention away from him :lol

kristianhay 10-02-2013 11:55 PM

Roy and Torts in a yelling match could get...interesting to say the least. That whole incident was so very Patrick Roy.

im in the camp that thinks with a full season, the leafs would have lost steam and fallen out of the playoffs

malhotra signs contract with ahl's checkers

Quote:

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Manny Malhotra will continue his hockey career in the American Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers.

The club announced on Wednesday that Malhotra signed a 25-game professional tryout contract.

The 33-year-old suffered a serious eye injury when struck by a puck during a game versus Colorado in March of 2011. He returned to the Canucks lineup last season, but was placed on season-ending injured reserve by the club after going pointless in nine games.

At that time, Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said that he believed that Malhotra was at times “extremely vulnerable” on the ice because he couldn't see well enough.

I guess the rest of the NHL teams agreed with Mike Gillis when he placed Malhotra on IR

I feel so bad for Manny. Quality guy, terrible accident, career forever changed.

Kilinim 10-03-2013 08:29 AM

I think Manny can still play in the NHL. I think MG used the excuse of his poor vision to put a more point-producing guy in his place. Not that that really worked out but fuck MG.

Tough to say...the game has evolved that it puts him out of position. Who knows, Manny is one of the best conditioned guys out there so believe he can keep up. Its the eye man

Ahhh...I guess you weren't watching the games before he got shut down?

The guy lost -all- effectiveness on the ice, people will debate his face off % but even that had dropped significantly from before the injury. He was a liability in his own end the only end he really plays in, and he was absolutely terrified of anything coming up around his face, I distinctly remember watching a game VS Calgary where an errant stick came up on his shoulder and he turtled like he'd been shot

Guys playing scared with partial vision? Yea, no thanks

Manny was a liability out there to the team and himself after the injury. If his eye was good, he would still be wearing a Canucks jersey today IMO. Character guy, great at faceoffs and very defensively sound.

I don't think MG made the decision for any other reason than he was concerned for Manny's safety.

UFO 10-03-2013 10:03 AM

Well, that and Kesler was coming back into the lineup and the Canucks needed cap relief as well--who knew he would have been hurt again after just a few games though.

I have no doubt that Manny's safety was an issue, but let's not all make MG out to be Mother Theresa either. The guy's pretty shrewd.. Manny and MG were using each other until it wasn't convenient for one of the parties. I wish Manny all the best, but he's just a shell of the player he used to be on the ice

I would definitely follow Earl's hockey analysis/predictions; after all, he did lose a jersey.
