Whether a player is respected or not has no bearing on whether he has skill that can generate points and win games for a team though...... |
So Blapuk... what do you think of Kessel's contract... General consensus right now is that he's overpaid and you guys are gonna have fun next season upping Dion |

Holy fuck, Parros just went head first chin down and hit the ice in a fight with Colton Orr. Wasn't moving for a couple seconds, being taken off on a stretcher. Scary stuff... |

fuck, I hope he's ok |
Hope he's okay. But good signs that he tried to get up, he was conscious and can move his hands while being stretchered off. |
I am quite fine with Kessel's contract. Most of the players/contracts people are trying to compare this to aren't really relevant as they are either contracts signed under a different CBA or they were signed as RFA's rather than UFA's. Guys in the same money range like Nash, Perry, Kessel has out performed over the last few seasons. He's been a top 10 scorer the last 2 seasons and is one of only 5 players to score 30+ goals over the last 5 years. He's been playing at that level since entering the league while with linemates like Bozak and Tim Brent. Kessel will be 33 when his contract ends. He has no major health issues and plays a relatively low-contact style game so there its reasonable to expect he stays productive for most of those 8 years. He isn't the one dimentional player people like to label him - he is a good playmaker and his defensive/physical game has improved with every season. As for cap issues, I'm not really worried as it is expected to go up steadily. The Leafs will have plenty of cap space next season with the addition of 2.5 mil coming off the books from Tucker/Armstrong/Finn/Scrivens after this season. If the cap were to go up to 70 mil next season, the Leafs would have enough space to double the salary of all their unsigned UFA/RFA's and get all almost all of them to fit under. Not worried about Dion really and we have a number of young D with the potential to replace him at the #1 spot should negotiations not go well. |

I think Kessel will have another PPG season this year and start a downward trend. Peak is usually the age of 27. I don't get why you blew off my comment? Kessel's last two seasons have been his best. He was a PPG player in 2012 and just over a PPG in 2013. There's a growing argument based on stats that suggests the peak age when NHL players put forth their best performance falls somewhere between the ages of 26 and 27. Performance as in ice time and points. After this range, players start their decline. Kessel turns 26 tomorrow. You can read more about it here: http://dacc.coalliance.org/fedora/re...OCKEY%20LEAGUE |
I don't think it's a long shot to say he could get another ppg season than not have another one again Posted via RS Mobile |
Honest question, has Kessel ever single handedly won a game for the Leafs? I only ask because I've seen both Sedins single handedly win games. Henrik moreso when Daniel was out, but Danny has scored the only (or vast majority) of goals to win games on many occasions over the years. In my opinion, elite players are the guys who can go out there, dictate the pace and outcome on any given night. Sedins do that, regularly. If you think otherwise, you're not paying very close attention. Even if Kessel (who I admittedly don't watch often) has been that guy... either Sedin >>> Kessel. Even if you think hacking people's legs is more valuable than taking the high road and the power play. People often go back to Daniel getting punched over and over in the face by Marchand. IMO, the only person who fucked up there was the ref watching. If a penalty was called (which it should have been, and I guess people would have said Marchand fucked up too) and it turned the tides, everyone would look back on that as Marchand fucking up the Bruins' chances and Sedin would have been a legend for youngsters to look up to in terms of keeping your cool when a POS is in your face. |
