I've only been called in once at the border, I was being nice and declared the 24 case of Heineken beer I had purchased @ Costco. The young agent sent me in to pay taxes.

As I was standing in the lineup his superior came up to me and said "You're in here for only this beer?" he then proceed to tell his subordinate agent off, and went ahead and sent me on my way, no taxes charged.

Avoid the young cats if you can.

Had that happen to me a few years back. Day trip, four people in the car, about $200 each of clothes, no booze nor smokes. New guy sent us in. The guy at the counter looked at the sheet, asked about booze and cigs. Sighed and ripped up the form from the booth guy and told us, "have a nice day."

With CBSA previously being Canada Customs and Revenue Agency pre 2003, guessing there's still a lot of upper management and corporate identity for collecting duties, depending on the individual districts' focus.

Anecdotally, I've heard CBSA out in Ontario are way more duty and tax focused.

Gasoline is not technically exempt from duty, so just depends who you get I guess.

I got dinged once for declaring gas only. This was a few years ago. At the time I had 4 Jerry cans.

So now I buy groceries along with a couple of Jerry cans, and when border guards ask what I'm bringing back, I just say groceries and gas. Majority of the time never asked for the amount.

You also cannot not travel through the Massey Tunnel - its a TransCanada thing as well.

I've never been taxed for gas iirc. But I usually only do 3x 25L to be safe. And always a separate transaction - just in case.

I hope that's CAD?

Guess its time for them to recover some lost profits lol

Yikes - I filled up regular last week in PR at $1.41/L (CDN) when it was $1.959 at home.

I dunno what your friend is smoking.

I just came back from PR... 1.65cdn/L at Shell... 1.55cdn/L at Can-Am.

Chevron only lists USD prices so I'm unsure, but I think it was $1.3x something...

Premium, sorry I keep forgetting not everyone uses 92.

LOL... I was so worried when I went down

SkunkWorks 03-07-2022 06:15 PM

is the gas at can-am worth the savings over shell? granted i only need 87 in the beater, but more curious than anything.

68style 03-07-2022 07:16 PM

I’ve been getting gas from there for years and years whenever I happen to be down, never had any troubles.

I can’t say for sure but I get the feeling only 1 tanker truck actually visits PR lol….

Is shipping tires to Point Roberts ok?
I plan to pick them up and drive back over.

Also, does anyone know the best rates for tires? I used to use 5D packages but I guess I can't go there anymore since I would have to cross over through Peace Arch

68style 03-08-2022 08:08 AM

Tires are kinda shitty to ship to PR…

In/Out charges $3.75 per tire and have to pick up during office hours unless you make an arrangement with them to put it in their big locker on a particular date.

P2P charges $5 per tire.

Shell station is $4 a tire.

Shell station has a parcel shipping service?

68style 03-08-2022 05:24 PM

Yes kind of a shack next to the station

There's a current special offer:
Fill 10 Gallons and get 30% off on all your parcels.

:notbad:

SkunkWorks 03-08-2022 08:19 PM

I miss 5d and their $2 almost anything.

Though the 24/7 pickup At In Out is awesome.

JDMDreams 03-08-2022 10:16 PM

I recall liking in and out but then I think they were quite pricy?

68style 03-08-2022 10:53 PM

Both In/Out and P2P are $3.75usd a package now.

5D in Blaine is only $1... that said, at least for me, Blaine is much farther and the lineups are invariably much longer (non-Covid times that is)

AzNightmare 03-09-2022 02:05 AM

Do you need to set up an ArriveCAN account to get back into Canada?

Just want to pick up tires and fill up gas. Go there, come back, 30 mins. Hoping to have no hassles. Any thing I need to prepare in advance?

BIC_BAWS 03-09-2022 05:36 AM

Yes ArriveCan

and the negative rapid test

anyone know if there's some where in Bellingham to get one cheap that will work for coming back home?

BIC_BAWS 03-09-2022 06:26 AM

No negative rapid test for PR, which is what he was talking about

PR needs double vaccination (they don’t really ask for proof ever but be prepared to show the federal travel certificate if need be) and yes, you must fill out ArriveCAN.

You do not need a test… but you may receive a take home one when you come back which is definitely a hassle.

Razor Ramon HG 03-09-2022 01:16 PM

Blaine still a no-go for package pick ups, right? Haven't seen any new developments, but just wanted to confirm.
