Long story short, they need a defenceman that has played a certain amount of games and is signed for next year. For the Canucks currently that's Edler and Tanev. I doubt the Canucks would like to expose their top pairing. Given that, Biega needs to play 19 games to qualify to be exposed, and Sbisa 29 (iirc). They are keeping Biega because of 2 reasons (Sekeres postulates): 1. If he plays his 19 games and Sbisa ends up injured and can't make 29, we have a defenceman to expose that isn't in the top pairing. 2. If he plays his 19 games and Sbisa makes his 29, Biega ends up being a bargaining chip to recoup assets from a team who needs a defenceman to expose to the expansion draft. This is because of his favourable contract status (one more year after this at 750k). That's more valuable than Sbisa's terrible contract. Pedan didn't show much this preseason, and given the fact that Biega was the Canucks' go-to depth guy last season, it's not hard to see why they'd keep Biega over Pedan. Unlike last year where they stupidly let Corrado go for no reason, they have their hands tied this year with their choices. They can choose to waive Larsen instead of Pedan, but then both of their proposed PP QBs are in Utica (Stecher being the other). Personally I don't think Pedan will get plucked if he gets sent down, but it's hard for another team to say no to that size I suppose. |
Never knew that...just checked out the expansion draft rules now Quote:

But if he were to remain, it'd be even more of mess on D for asset management lol. Unless he gladly signed a 2 way deal to be called up at the end of the year :p |
seeing as he got released on a PTO, I think he'd sign any deal at this rate lol Besides, he's the tank commander. He'll be perfect for the push for Nolan Patrick in 2017. |

I'd be surprised if he goes unclaimed any guesses? Toronto? Wouldn't be surprised if the Oilers claimed as well. |
Murph tweeted if barberio didn't get claimed, pedan should be ok as well. I think habs sergachev is going to make the team. Imagine if both tkachuk and sergachev making their NHL teams? Canucks fans gonna go crazy! Lol. |
i don't understand how Murph arrived at that conclusion Barberio is 6'1 - 200, has 120+ more games of NHL experience and is 26. I've never even fucking heard of this guy until today. Pedan is 6'5 - 215, has a grand total of 13 games and is only 23. We know he's got a mean edge and needs some work around the edges but lots to work with. :fulloffuck: that said...for the purposes of expansion draft, it does make a bit of sense to send him down but losing another young player, which we pissed a draft pick for...it's just losses after fucking losses with this team |
lets not talk about it, we don't want GM's from around the league seeing our discussion and picking him up off waivers  |
I wonder if Corrado-Pedan would make a good pairing :troll: |
Lol Stecher paired with Sbisa tonight That's the ultimate test...if you can look good playing with Sbisa, you're good enough for the show some trade talks going on between Edmonton and Chicago for Yakupov |
